You know, I didn't even think about how much just opening that door actually meant...way to use that metaphor.  Although I'd love to read more of these, it is a good place to end it.  Great fic :)

Oh wow, this is making my heart leap into my chest just like the finale did.  Brav-oh.

I'm playing the 'favorite line' game:

Truth was a drug and she kept digging in, loving how it felt leaving her lips.

Great story!  And I love the use of the song quotes at the beginning of each chapter!  You have great taste in music!

Author's Response: Thanks on both counts!

"And she knows, even if nothing ever goes her way again, she has something to be proud of."  What a great line.  Loved this chapter.

Aieeee! This gave me the same fluttery feeling in my stomach that watching the finale did!

Love this: It's easier to imagine Jim taking the job... because what does it mean if Karen is hired and he goes to New York with her?  Great detail.

Wow, Beach Games 2, Jim - Really good.  I especially like these lines: And he realized, all this time, she might have been - might be - hurting, too. He felt dumb and childish and full of so, so much regret.

Author's Response: Thanks! Just put up Pam's second part and moving on to The Job!

Another great chapter!  I loved this part - "And he wasn't sure it was ever too late. But he wasn't sure it was time."  That says so much.

This was such an awesome chapter - filled with so many great line - "Why did she fear words when silence was so much more deadly?"  and "Michael lit the fire and she felt herself begin to burn."  I love that she finally decided to put her fears aside and declare how she really felt.

Author's Response: So glad you liked it. Yeah, I really think Pam's - or anyone's - silence is their worst enemy. So glad she beat it down!

This is a great line: "He's taking a piece of her back - giving a little of himself, even though she didn't ask him to."  I'm really enjoying this series!

I love this chapter--you did a wonderful job showing the inner turmoil we know Jim is feeling, and I agree that part of him (even if he doesn't want to admit it) still does the pranks for Pam's benefit.

The Fine Work Award goes to you!  -CH

Author's Response: Hahaha... I love it. And thank you. :)

"God knows what possessed me.  Obviously the glasses. They took hold of my mind and... there was no other option."  Yes!

I absolutely adore this story. Your writing is beautifully simple and heartwrenching at the same time. I love your insights into the episodes.

i just read these all at once. i should be going to sleep, but when i read this line, i knew i was in for the next 26 chapters:

And I'd sort of kill to be drowning again...

that just seems so perfectly jim -- i imagine it in the same vein as his "i'd save the receptionist" line. like he's so tired of hiding it and can't be anything but brutally honest. love it!

Author's Response:

Thank you! Don't you love/hate it when you find something you really want to read when you should be sleeping - happens to me all the time!

Glad you're enjoying the story.

He wouldn't fall down again.

(Whether he wanted to or not.)

Not unless she fell first.

Favorite part, although it was hard to choose b/c every chapter has been so well-written and insightful. I love this.

Author's Response:

It's awful that I can't remember which chapter that is... as someone pointed out, I need to name them something besides Jim and Pam... ;)

Glad you're enjoying, though! And thanks for reading.

Hi.  I'm chiming in on this story for the first time thanks to the rec on TWoP and I'm glad because this felt like reliving S3 up to this point.  It really compliments that NBC Jam promo video.

This fic really captures well everything they've been living with and thinking since CN.  I'm really looking foward to see where this goes as we head into the finale (yippee!)

Author's Response: Ah, I don't know who rec'd it at TWoP, but that was very nice of them. Glad you're enjoying... I'm having fun with it. Of course, it drives me crazy that next week is a repeat!

I really liked this chapter.  You have written some wonderful Jim characterizations. Particularly:

She's counting Jelly Beans and you've all placed bets, so it makes sense... that you'd watch.

They're both waiting on you to make it stop.

You're thankful, because you don't want to explain. Aren't sure you can.

And you wonder if she's talking about the office.

I think this one's my favorite so far.  I loved this whole part of this week's episode, so to get Jim's POV on it is really cool.  (Of course Kevin's lines were so amazing, said in that odd Kev inflection - "for years".)

Interesting that you say Jim hates when Karen leans against his desk!  Gee, Pam always used to do that too... wonder if he hated that....

Love this: "She doesn't mention Kelly and Creed. Or the way you stood with Pam in the parking lot. She never asks how the two of you knew Michael's plan, just by looking at a bouncy castle or what the knowing glances between you meant."

It's especially fun seeing these when they refer to the week's episode!

Author's Response: Ah, very perceptive. Jim loved it when Pam leaned against his desk. ;) At least, in my world, he did.

Loved the first-person, loved it, because Pam seems like the kind of person who would write her deepest emotions and thoughts in a journal that she put deep inside her dresser where no one can ever find it - it fits, because it's Pam: she doesn't do that sort of thing, to talk about things like that. I'd like to think that the last time she wrote was some time before she met Jim, before she had someone to talk to - she may not have talked about these 'deepest thoughts and feelings' but she had someone to talk to, and Jim was perfect for that.

And then maybe it was in May that she decided she needed to keep things to herself because the last time she did something on instinct she broke two hearts and her own.

I'm creating too much of a background to fictional characters. :$  and this isn't even canon!!

Also, I adored the paragraph on the things Jim doesn't know, but she wants him to know...lovely.

It flows and meshes together so well I practically turn into mush every single time I read a chapter by you. Gorgeous, as always!

Author's Response:

You make me laugh - I was sure no one thought about Jim and Pam's actions (outside of what we see every week), as much as me. But I think you're giving me a run for my money. Of course, I suppose all the people posting work on this site spend a little more time than most, pondering that topic. ;)

Whatever the case, in my mind, the last time she wrote was probably the day she called off the wedding... and before that, Casino Night. But who knows what Pam does when we're not around. :)

This story is so beautiful and poetic. I'm just loving every minute of it! I can't wait to see how you put these two together (PLEASE tell me that's the outcome you've got in mind, because I can barely sit still for thinking about how you could do it!)!  --CH

Author's Response: Well, the story will follow the progression of season three. Wherever the finale leaves off, I'll pick up from there and finish...
