I've been working my way through your stories the last few days (and I am so happy you are/were so prolific!). I've been lazy about reviewing, but I had to write something this time. Because it made me cry. I am at work and tears are streaming down my cheeks. Well done! :)

You know with all those cameras around it has to be hard to be courageous and honest! I was so excited to see that Pam had sent the emails in her drunken state. Been there, done that!

I'm doing a whirlwind tour of your library while I wait for the next chapter of Nearing the Edge!

Author's Response:

Heh - I suspect you're going to be sorry you left all these great reviews when you find a gajillion months-later responses in your inbox.  :o)

I had a lot of fun writing Pam's drunken emails, because I really could imagine her doing something like that -- either drunk dialing him or drunk emailing him.  (I'm relieved to say that I didn't start drinking until after I was dating my now husband -- in my later 20's -- so I never did the drunk dialing.  But dear god, if I had been a drinker in college, I TOTALLY would have, lol.)

I'm glad you're enjoying my older stuff, and in spite of my hideousness at not responding to your reviews sooner, I really do appreciate your taking the time to review!

I missed this conclusion when you posted it, so it was a pleasant surprise to find it today. I think I held my breath as I read this chapter...it was so good and intense and cathartic. And as I finished, a pleased sigh and smile were my reaction.  Just lovely. Added to favorites.

Author's Response: Thanks so much - I'm glad you liked it!  This is one of those stories that just came out of nowhere, and I had to get it out.  :o) Thanks for the review!

Another gem from this author. I LOVED chapter one. The emails were just perfection. I appreciate the reality of chapter two - the anguish, the anger, the disbelief and beyond everything the awkward we-are-with-other-people bits. It was very honest and er, non-cheesy.

Wow...this was amazing.  The "fight" seemed just like it could really happen..not too over the top, just perfect.  Amazing.

You know what I'm sorry for?  The fact that you don't pimp your fics out on TWoP like you should, but I ravage the fanfic forum every day looking for your name so that I can read your updated chapters right away.  So instead this jem of a continuation from last week slipped right by me.

And I wish I could have told you (for like the billionth-trillionth time) sooner that your stuff is amazing.  And this final (?) chapter is just as good as the rest.

The internets ate my first review. Grr. Okay, I seriously covered my mouth and whispered "No!" when I realized Pam had sent not one, but all of those emails. So, good job on the tension there. And a great resolution!

oh!!! I'm so glad you finished this. I love your stories and I miss seeing you around here (in a non-creepy way. I swear)

His name sounded strange on her lips; she realized then that she rarely called him by his first name. It struck her how oddly impersonal it seemed to reference him by his name...so foreign, so formal.  I've never really noticed that before but you are totally right! That one sentence really hit me emotionally, although its not really an emotional line. But it reminded me that they are going to be ok, in this story and otherwise. Thanks!!

EEE!!!
Wow, i didn't expect there to be more to this story.
The image of Pam completely going into a panic about the emails was great.
Just so wonderfully written.
Thanks.
cheers.

The only thing un-perfect about this is that I know we'll never get to see it on our screens. I can't even pick anything to quote back to you because it is note-perfect. *sigh*  BE BRAVE, Pam, that's all we need.

First of all, Snow Patrol is easily one of the best bands to listen to when writing.  And I'm glad to know that I'm not alone when I saw that their music inspires me to write!  :)

I felt so bad for Pam at her art show, so reading this was a nice way to get into her mind and see how she felt about it all.  When Pam started drinking the wine and composing those e-mails, it made your story progress further and get better & better after each e-mail.

Favorite part:  (other than those weird metal springy things that stick out of the wall - you know, those contraptions that supposedly keep doors from closing all the way - and I decided that they're creepy. Did I tell you that I had a puppy once who pawed at one of those things? He did, and when it made that weird sound - if you were here, I'd totally do it for you - it freaked him out, and he peed all over the floor.)  I can't even begin to tell you how hard I laughed at this!  I wasn't expecting it at all, and then just imagining Pam writing this in a semi-drunken state me laugh harder.  LOL

Anyway, the point of this rather long review is that I loved your story.  This is definitely one of the best Pam-centered fics I've ever read-- in-character, appropriate, and believable.  Thanks for sharing this!  Lovely job!

Can I just say I loved your backstory on the outfit that Pam wore to the art show, and especially her iner thoughts about Roy in relation to her art. So spot on. You pointed out things I hadn't even realized about their dynamic. And my mom and I would have had the same discussion about the jumper looking like something an artist would wear.

OMG, she sent the last e-mail? Or all of them? Eeeee! I was so sad to see that Jim didn't show up at the art show, even if Michael's appearance did have me in tears. Can't wait to see what you bring us in the next chapter...

*sigh* Oh, Pam. As you noted, I don't think she's there yet, but we are! We're so ready for this! Still- solidarity, my sister! We can be optimists together.

This, by the way, is something I've never seen articulated, and it is SO TRUE:

He had never challenged her - because he didn't know her well enough to do so. Strange that the realization hadn't occurred to her until she stood there forcing herself to glare at Jim – who had no qualms about challenging her.

Wonderful insight. No wonder they fit together so well. Beautiful, as usual!

I'd pay good money to see Pam pro-active enough to just freaking tell him already - email, voicemail, smoke signals..anything! So thanks for this wish fulfillment. I like how you've increased the level of candor along with her level of inebriation. Looking forward to seeing Jim's reaction, needless to say. Running out of patience with the show - sometimes I think it's fics like this that keep me in the game.

(but seriously folks...)

I love the series of e-mails as Pam works through that bottle of wine...so perfect! Funny funny stuff, but poignant and heartfelt at the same time. Excellent...

I really enjoyed this; all the little back stories that add up to her heartbreak; all the alternate emails; Roy not getting that third place was awesome to her; the long sleeves of her sweater (because I was secretly enthralled watching her hands fuss that night: Jenna is awesome). All good, dear. And for some reason: the startled puppy. It's so off-topic, but human. The kind of thing you talk about when you're trying to avoid saying the really important stuff.

Okay, can I just say that as someone who's had their stuff displayed at an art show, I TOTALLY understand Pam right now. And the version that you've written...having all the personal stuff in drawers? Yeah, that's me.
It's the hardest thing in the world to put yourself outthere like that and there's a lot of people who just won't do it.
I love that there's multiple versions of the emails as well.
This was just great.
Thanks. (now, where's my Dundie?)
cheers.
