Whoa.  Lots happening in this chapter -- the snow globe analogy is very fitting.  And I like how you slowed down the pace at the end, too.

Author's Response: Thanks lisa! The snow globe thing was fun to write. I spent a bit of time trying to pick the right words. And I actually didn't consciously realize that I was slowing down the pace as much as I was, so I'm glad it worked! I'll pretend that I did it on purpose. Heh.

Wow.  Another powerful chapter.  The discussion and breakup between Jim and Karen is crazy (in a good way), especially Karen realizing HOW Jim must have told Pam his feelings, and realizing that she's going to have to break this off.

Jim is just shell-shocked over all this!  I love when Jim realizes he can touch Pam, and Pam saying "you have a little blood".

I greatly appreciate you MTT authors!   The imaginations you have, and then you write it all down for the rest of us to enjoy!  Thanks so much.

You didn't have this marked for complete, so I'm hoping for more...?

Author's Response:

Awww, thanks Kev! This is definitely not complete. No worries. I have three more essays due this week (will school never end?) But by Friday I'll be able to start chapter six.

I'm sooo glad that you liked the "you have a little blood" part. It made me giggle to write :)

I hate to spare a moment to say "poor Karen", but I have to.

Ok, moving on. I really loved the whole "hand-on-stove" analogy. So true.

Author's Response: Ha! I'm glad that it made you say "poor Karen." I think some authors do a completely believable job of making her hateable, but I just can't do it. I see myself in Karen. And I'm glad that you liked the hand-on-stove analogy. I love creating analogies, and they seem to be the easiest to write for Karen. Not sure why. Hm...

That was absolutely worth the wait. I'm having to open up a bottle of wine now, thanks to this delightful rollercoaster of emotion. You made my heart ache for Karen- which is no small feat.
Have you ever heard the song called F*** was I, one of the lines goes "Skillet on the stove is such a temptation, maybe I'll be the lucky one who doesn't get burned. What the *bleep* was I thinking?" I love that song, and your beautiful burn analogies reminded me of it. Love this story so much.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad it was worth the wait for you! And I'm so glad that I made you feel for Karen, because I truly sympathize with her even though I want to hate her. Aaaaand, I'm especially glad that you opened a bottle of wine, because that's always a good thing!

As for the song, I've never heard of it, but it's very fitting! Thanks so much for the review!

I can't think of anything more than Caveman-like monosyllables like "more" and "now".  You get the idea. ;)  I can't wait to hear what they have to say to each other.

Author's Response: Ha! Awesome. Caveman-like speech is good enough for me. I'm actually really excited to write the next chapter. As much as I love writing Karen, I love writing Jim/Pam soooo much more

I am so happy to read the newest chapter.  I feel like I have been waiting forever!  More please.   I do like how you have addressed the problems between Jim/Pam/Karen/Roy.  You seem to have their characters down very well.  I especially like the part where Jim realizes that he did use Karen, even though he would never intentionally do so.  Your handling of Pam and her "non-answers" is also very good.     I am serious though, more please.  Soon.

Author's Response:

Thank you for all of your comments. I'm glad that it still seems in character to you. I feel like Jim really didn't realize what he was doing (or didn't let himself realize it) because he really isn't a bad guy. And Pam is not going to be able to get away with non-answers in the next chapter :)

I'll try so, so hard to get chapter six out quickly!

Another good chapter.  I read it earlier, but forgot to comment.  I like the part about how Jim thinks that the earth stopped spinning because he feels a jolt.  I like how Jim teams up with Roy against Pam.  I like Pam's defense mechanism of the "pursuit of logic" (I like Star Trek, too).  I like cracked!Pam and that she could pull herself back together.  I liked how Roy actually grabbed Pam and I think that that was the main reason that Jim actually hit him.  Otherwise, I'm sure that Jim would have been thinking about hitting Roy all night.

It's been so long since an update...I'm sad :-(

Author's Response:

Thank you for leaving such specific feedback! It's the best kind! I'm so glad that you got that Roy grabbing Pam is what finally spurned Jim on to hit him. Actually, all of the parts you mentioned were parts that I was pretty proud of, so I'm really glad that you liked them. Thanks!

And I have chapter five completed! It should be posted tomorrow some time. I'm just waiting on my final beta'ing :)

well, this chapter may have been a mean chapter to write, but it was just friggin amazing. like, if i quoted everything that i liked, it would be the entire chapter. and that would just defeat the purpose. but it was amazing. so much action, so much revealed. and i can't wait for more

Author's Response: Heh. Thanks so much Emily! I really loved your ensemble fic, just to reiterate that.

oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my fricken god!!!! really really really so sooo so so good. Like I'm flabbergasted. I was always wondering who was gonna touch a pone the violent roy. I mean if he did that in the bar how often did he do that with pam when they were still together. I also like how it wasn't a beating but just roughness that gets out of hand. Really I'm in love with you right now. Angry Jim, Karen not being able to wait, pam breaking. There were even some funny spots. yep I'm totally in love with you, marry me please, or at least update really really soon.

Author's Response: HAHAHA! My first proposal! Thank you so much for the offer ;-) I sort of want to make a little plaque of this review, it's so frigging funny and awesome. Thank you!

So happy that I came home to this!!! I'll try to keep my comments slightly abbreviated as to not take up an entire page...

And the earth stops spinning.

Perfectly placed there! That did a great job of making me, as a reader, kinda freeze too. Beautiful!

It’s like saying, “I’m like two minutes away” when someone asks you how close your boyfriend has come to hitting you, or saying “I can’t” when someone tells you they’re in love with you.  Responses that don’t address the issue.  Responses that change the subject and shut down the possibility for further discussion.

I love this because it's just such a perfect explanation of what Pam does and really gets at the frustration of the moment(s) from Jim's POV. Plus it has the added benefit of being SO true to real life!

“No!  I want you to deny it, Pam!” Roy interrupts.  “Turn to Halpert right now and tell him that you didn’t have feelings for him when we were together.”

There is something wrong in the world when drunk Roy is the voice of reason...

“Why can’t you just answer the question?” he demands.

Oooh! Points to Jim! Damn... I forgot what the score was...

Okay, the whole fighting scene. I was reading too intently to comment. There just wasn't time for that. But the 'good GOD was that good!' should just be assumed.

It takes him another second to realize that it came from Karen.

Gotta give it to Karen (take a minute for the shock of me saying that to wear off), that takes balls. To see that scene unfold and think that you have any place to step in and stake some kind of claim? JUST GO HOME BITCH!!!

 Whoops. Sorry.

Anyway, SO AMAZING! SO SO AMAZING! And also, are there awards for the longest mtt review?

Author's Response:

You are awesome. Not only because you just won the "Best Reviewer" Dundie, but also because of your Hooters experience last week. Heh.

As for who won the fight, I think it was Pam, but then Roy joined in even more and I think Karen was the biggest loser somehow. Which you should LOVE. Your Karen comments never cease to crack me up. You ROCK!

i absolute love your writing. I know how hard it must to write these characters with only small clues as to how they might react in such an outwardly emotional situation like this, but I think that you do an great job of staying true to form. Especially with Karen and Pam. Keep up the good work! Can't wait to read more...

Author's Response: Oh! That's so nice of you to say! It is sort of difficult to imagine how these characters would react in a dramatic situation like this, so I really appreciate your constructive compliments :)

I could see this.  I could actually, physically, believably see this.  It was like I was watching the show - no...it was like I was standing there with Jim and Pam and Karen and Roy.  It was like I was waiting to help Pam hold Jim back.  It was so fucking real that it wasn't until I finished chapter 4 that I realized I'd barely been breathing.

This...this is more than I can put into words.  Oh, my God.

Author's Response: WOW! Thank you so much! I'm glad that you've found it so engaging! Hopefully I can keep that up in chapter five :)

“Of course.  Because you always need an answer right away, don’t you Jim?”

That line elicited an actual, "Hell yeah!" from me. This is *exactly* what needs to happen on the show- Pam and Jim have to yell at each other and get all of their issues out there. Great line, great character analysis of Pam (the way she pushes things aside and reverts to practical mode), great Jim voice at the end, great everything. This fic, ftw!

Author's Response: Yay! I totally agree. It's like the "one good fight" theory (that they're just one good fight away from gettin' it on!) I can't see Pam just going up to Jim on her own, but I thought that if she was pushed enough by Roy and Jim she might just let him have it.

I love SnarkyPissed!Jim! And how Karen is still kind of composed throughout it all, b/c she's tough. I love this whole story, really.

Author's Response: I love SnarkyPissed!Jim too! (I always think "Like your thoughts and feelings?" when I think of this Jim).  And I'm glad you liked Karen because I'm a little worried that I've been keeping her too much in the background.

I *love* this. Everyone's so in character, despite the fact that they're in this incredibly tense situation that we've never seen on the show. And, yet, I can imagine it going down *exactly* like this b/c the voices are perfect. And the mix of drama and unleashed emotions ("She was your fiancée, you fucking moron!” Jim snarls. “Not that you ever remembered it then either.”) and humor ("JET SKIS!") is just like on the show. I've read a lot of post-Cocktails fics, but this is definitely one of my favorites.

Author's Response: Oh, wow! Thanks Rowena! I'm incredibly flattered by everything you've written. It's exactly what I hoped people would think.
