Poor Jim. Every time he tries to get away, he finds himself back there. There's something bittersweet here, because he's finally found some happiness but it doesn't have a firm foundation. So he's here again, double-checking one last time because he can't quite believe that she dosn't feel it, too. I'm rambling because this is gorgeous, as always.

I was so sure you were gonna have Pam say, "I just want you to be happy," and let him marry Karen! This hurts so much, but it's so beautiful, and the ending is just breathtaking, and wow, I really love your writing.

Even though this is a relatively happy ending, the parking lot of DOOM is just a constant source of angst. And actually I like that the end isn't defined in any solid way. Jim had said that even if Pam did love him, she hadn't done anything about it, and he does deserve much more than that (how's that for an ironic twist on those words?). He was ready to get married, for goodness sakes. But it's an interesting parallel and very realistic. And the image of night making their shadows disappear is just beautiful. Thanks so much for this. cheers. --Lex

A little close to tears, near the center, because I was dead, dead scared that Pam would want Jim and Karen to be happy [you know, basically, Pam would be stupid] because I know that you wouldn't mind doing that, considering that little piece you posted between your two chapters of Like a Light House - but when she says it, even after he says And I'm going to ask Karen to marry me [I was very close to getting up and doing productive work again, can you believe that?] I let out this long sigh of relief - I know this is fanfiction, but some kinds of fanfiction are so brilliant they pull you in even if you don't want them to - this is one of them.

Of course, loved how this was written, as usual; the shadows at the beginning and at the end [their shadows vanish is lovely: they're beginning to lose that darkness they've had around them for so long] and the all-face kiss gave me goosebumps just imagining it - you can't fall out of love with someone like Pam so easily, and I'm glad, I love that Jim realises.

Brilliant stuff, as always, unfold. Even with the angst this is one of my favourites of yours.

So powerful; so beautiful.  Simple, yet profound.  Hoping for something as wonderful come May.

Thanks.

This was so beautiful. My heart was in my throat as I read it. At first I was so afraid that Pam wouldn't have the nerve to say it - and then after Jim said how happy he was and that he was going to propose to Karen, I was afraid she would keep quiet so as not to cause problems for Jim and Karen.  Thank heavens that now that she's finally said it, he does still want it. And the last line was so poetic.

I'd say that this would make a wonderful non-dialogue piece, but the words you're given them are spot on. Please, please, please, let the season end with that all-over-the-face kiss.

Please.

Absolutely beautiful.  My heart hurts a little right now, but in a good way.

Seriously.   You astound me - absolutely every single time.   The line about him finding her mouth with his eyes closed just about did me in.

I'm just going to say thank you...

I cleared the rest of my calendar for the day when I saw a new unfold story was up. I only wish this had been longer.

As always, I want to quote each and every sentence right back at you and tell you how exquisite each one is, but I'll limit myself to saying that when Jim blurted out that unless Pam said something he was going to propose to Karen, I thought I was dangling over a precipice (sp). I was SO relieved when Pam finally got the courage to tell him the truth. I feel like I've just dodged a bullet or something. Whew!

No, I can't end this without citing at least one gloriously perfect sentence: tell him something that’ll make him feel like the slowly unwinding string of a kite, all dizzy and weightless yet still fated to come down or get stuck.

How DO you do this? I am in awe.

As always, this will be a favorite of mine. Thank you.

No! Jim can't even consider marrying Karen. At lest Pam did the right (honest) thing :)
