Ok, this is the third time in two days that I've read this story. Wow! One of my all-time favorites now. Thank you for painting such a plausible and beautiful story between J&P. Love it!

colette, you need to know that I read this all the time! It's one of my favorites, I come back to it so often. The visual of him taking her wrist before he lets her continue is definitely in my head for good. Your writing totally does me in -- I refuse to let myself read all of your stories, I pace myself because I know I'll just be bummed once there's nothing left from you that's new to me. So I work my way slowly, and it takes a lot of willpower. Your writing is gorgeous and romantic and poetic, I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next.

Author's Response: Wow, thank you so much yanana! You are too kind. I always love when reviewers pick up on a small moment (like him catching her hand) -often while writing, they're much more important to me than the 'big things' in fic (ahem, no double entendre intended ;-) And I'm very flattered that you read this so often...it's still a special one for me too.

I have no idea how, but I've just discovered your older stories, and they're just.. amazing. I'm in love with every one. They're so heartfelt and I love the dynamic you've created with Jim and Pam.. its so gentle and quiet. I truly adore your writing.

Author's Response: Wow, thank you so much flonkerton - that's so flattering. And I love that you describe their dynamic as gentle and quiet. It's a hard thing to capture, so it's wonderful to know when someone feels that via the words. Also glad you found this particular story...personal fave of mine. Thanks again!

Late to the party - I just read this as the story of the moment. It's quite lovely! Angsty (my favorite) and a very plausible transition from no communication to intimacy for J&P. Thanks for a great read!

Author's Response: Glad you thought the story arc worked here - and so nice to see this one still being read! Thanks so much for reading and reviewing miss anne eliot!

This is my favorite post-"Cocktails" piece. I like range of emotions. The sparse words and intense emotions are very sexy. I also like the contrast between the anger of the night before and the joviality and sweetness of the next day.

I like how much is said in this half-sentence:
but right now, for the first time in months, she’s glad the night is long.

Author's Response: That's really flattering and I'm so glad that contrast came through for you. Also pleased you picked out that particular sentence - have to admit, it was one of the ones that meant the most to me too. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, blue!

This was awesome. I loved how you conved every emotion so beautifully. I specifically love the ending where Jim says "Just you and me." awwwww.... I just loved that, because it is so true. Out of anyone in the office it is always them together, a team. But beautifully written. A great fic!!!

Author's Response: So glad you enjoyed this. And absolutely - it's always kind of been them together, even when they were totally apart (if that makes any sense.) Hopefully, this season we'll get to see them as a team again. Missed that. Thanks so much, Mad Hatter, for the lovely review.

Okay, I'll admit I'm a fawner from way back--it's true. But this story...honestly, I think this is my favorite story in the world. I cannot say enough good things about it. Even though you've taken them completely outside any environment and situation we've seen on the show, and that runs the risk of them slipping out of character, I could effortlessly picture them every step of the way. That's great writing. Such a great story.

Author's Response: What a great compliment - so glad you found it so believable. When you're writing, you never know if it will 'read' the way you picture it in your own head, so that's great to hear. Thanks so much for this generous review, invis!

Dear Colette. I needed some sweet, sexy smut, and this was perfect. And this line? I am deeeead from what it makes me think about:

‘I just need a minute,’ he breathes.

Author's Response: Hee...didn't mean to kill you, but glad to be of service! And I know exactly what you're thinking about that line - you and me both! Thanks, Elizabeth Lynn - always love to get your reviews!

This is beautiful. I'm mushy and teary-eyed and all gooey over it. Perfectly done. For me, there wasn't a moment I thought couldn't actually happen. Lovely job. Thank you.

Author's Response: Thanks, glendora. Have to admit, I was kind of gooey when I wrote it! So glad you thought it was plausible too!

I finally got a chance to read this and I must say.. thank you. This made me really happy. The pacing was perfect. A lot of times I don't like "Jim and Pam sleep together right away" fic, but this was so real and believable and appropriate in every way... you've definitely shown me that it can be done right! It was really hot, but not in a gratuitous way (if that makes sense?). I always bow down to those who can really write good smutty fic, and trust me this was good!

Author's Response: I'm so happy you felt that way, DinkinFlicka - I agree, the jumping into bed thing can be tricky...so I'm glad you thought it was believable here. And not gratuitous - the last thing I wanted to do was smut for smut's sake (not that I can't appreciate when other people's stories are, mind you!) Thanks so much for this awesome review!

Dear Colette,

How can I say in a review how absolutely beautiful this story is? Pam was so so brave; she didn't give up even though Jim was so closed off and hurt. She knew that it was now or never; that if she turned away from him that she'd never get another chance. So bravo FNB!

And of course, the Jam luvin' was superb. The act itself was hot, but it was their open emotional intimacy that spoke volumes. Jim won't move foward until he knows that it MEANS something; he needs to hear her SAY it. And then he needs to stop a moment to let it all sink in; that he's with PAM, finally. I love how Pam keeps thinking, "This is Jim", because it's also amazing to her that it's happening as well.

My favorite:

"Does it still hurt?"

"Not too much. I think you've made me impervious to pain."

Yeah, guys. There's only one way for the pain to stop.

So thanks again, Colette, for this happy story.

Author's Response: Dear EverybodyHurts, So glad you sensed the intimacy - that was just as/more important to me writing it as well. And yeah, they were both pretty overwhelmed - Jim needed a minute to settle down for, ahem, several reasons. And for Pam - it would be pretty mind boggling to all of a sudden have this be...well, Jim. Lordy. Imagine that. Also happy that line worked - exactly right about guys (hee) and also there are a couple of double meanings there, given their history. Anyway, thanks again for this great feedback!

OH YEA. I have no words for how happy this made me. I did literally cringe when Pam showed up at the door and is looking at his black eye. Your descriptions are so good! The imagery is so real, I can feel myself there. Wow. Yes. I really enjoyed this. Nice work!!!

Author's Response: Thanks so much GreenFish...proud to have made you cringe! Seriously, I'm really glad it came off as real for you - that's a great compliment!

Oh, this is so beautiful!! I love when she climbs into bed with him, when she wakes up with his arm around her, and when she lightly traces all of his bruises. And the... act itself is so perfect. So much a healing moment for them.

And this is actually my favorite part:
He carefully gathers her to him, as if she’s the injured one.
It really gives us a glimpse into what Jim might be thinking, because up intil that point, he was so closed off. But this just perfectly shows us how much he still loves her, how he's baing cautious like he might be afraid that he's misinterpreting things again, that maybe it's not real, like when Pam woke up with his arm around her and was afraid it was a dream. And maybe he's so careful with her like this because she's not physically hurt, but he knows she's been emotionally hurt for months by their whole situation. Plus, it's just a beautiful image by itself.

Bravo.

Author's Response:
Yes, he's still self-protective at first (he says it's got to mean something...) They both knew waking up like that revealed someting - just took him a bit longer to give into it. I also agree - despite all he's been through, he can't help but be concerned about her (even the night before, when he was mightily pissed, he can't help asking if she's okay.) The guy just loves her. Oh, I'm getting my sap on big time now...somebody stop me.

Thanks PuffingNoise for your incisive review!

Perhaps worrying about him being bruised and battered now was too little too late.

Great line! I also really like Pam trying to be near him without disturbing him. It's so in character for her. Even when she's taking big steps, it's in a quiet, unassuming way. And then Jim makes her work a little for him, which is excellent.

‘Say my name,’ he sighs, still moving. *fans self*

And I love the two of them trying not to smile about Roy getting a bloody nose. Hee.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

Author's Response: Only right that she work a little for it...but, I'd say the pay-off was worth it! Glad you thought Pam was in character and that it made your temperature rise a bit! Thanks, as always Paper Jam...always love your reviews!

Desperation finally trumps cowardice.

‘According to her, she’s not actually leaving me because I was never really there in the first place.’

This is it then.

There are so many wonderful bits and phrases and sentences and emotions. You know I'd recite them all back to you but let me just say instead I relish this and relish playing the role of enabler for you! Well played, my dear, very well played indeed.

Author's Response: I liked that you picked up that (very oblique) poker/CN reference...you smartie pants. And This is it then was a line I kind of liked too - you may notice that my faves are always the sentences w/4 words or less (why? Who knows.) Anyway, thanks as always for the praise, the enabling, the limericks, the tough love. I need it all!

Wow, Colette. A really good story as always. I like that you take little gestures/moments abd turn those into the significant happenings in the story. Oh, and this was just unbelievably sexy for some reason: "The first thing that she’s aware of is hot breath on the back of her neck. Then that she’s encircled from behind, an arm around her waist, large hand splayed across her stomach, holding her firmly against…him. She tries not to move, not to end this fragile dream." Excellent!

Author's Response: Yeah, with those two, it's always the little things that are meaningful. Now if only the two of them would start paying attention on the show! And, gotta say, the idea of them waking up together like that - Jim with his defenses down (all id, no ego as it were) and her not quite believing it/not wanting it to end...has a little je ne sais quoi for me too! Thanks, as always MA, for the lovely review (and for my lovely ribbon too...so pretty!)
