Nice work for your first foray into Jam-land! I like the contrast between his childhood dreams and his dreary new life. It seems like the kind of little anecdote these two would tell to pass the time at DM!

That was just great. Jim really does have a great imagination, and I love the idea that he cultivated that through reading as a kid. Nice job!
