Good for Jim; I'm proud of him for choosing his own bag. Does Karen like anything about Jim? Or just who she can mold him into?

It's been a while since I read some of your fics, and so i decided to play catch up... as long as I can read em before I dash off to class (hmm... skipping second day of class to read fanfic is a bad idea, right).

I hate it when inspiration strikes at 1 am. I had an inspiration strike last night right before I fell asleep. so, i wrote a really quick outline. And then went to sleep. Because I was really tired.

Ooh, House is a good show. You already know that though, so I won't ramble on about it.September 25th. I can't wait.

Poor Karen. She tries. Jim just isn't that type of person and she can't make him be. He likes familiarity, he doesn't like corporate suck-asses. He is Jim. Reliable old Jim. Does that sound bad. Because I love Jim. I mean him no ill will.

Oh, and I will take that bet that House will figure it out. Although sometimes hasn't it been one of the others that figures it out. So technically, he doesn't always. Wow, I can't wait until the 25th. Its a good week for TV. House AND The Office.

I have been looking for a good messanger bag instead of my purse. It is more multi functional. because 9 months out of the year I just use my backpack. But, I figure that will look weird once I graduate. So, I am looking. They had a really awesome one for back to school stuff, but the only color was this bright pink and I was like, um, no.

Great story! I love it!

You're retelling of their first date rocks! And yeah, briefcases are way too stuffy. Way to go Jim!

That was great. You picked a simple but meaningful item and really explored the differences between Jim's old life with Pam and his recent one with Karen. And you resisted the temptation to reference Michael's one-time nickname for him: Jimbag!

Aw. You did a lot with a little here. Well done.

I really like this!  I like Jim's bag, too.  It does suit him.  I could certainly see Karen trying to change the bag as well as the hair.  I'm glad in your story that he leaves the briefcase.  Of course, we saw him in the finale with the bag, so he had to take the bag, right?

Briefcases are quite heavy even when empty, and you can't distribute the weight nicely.

Nice story.

I like how the fancy new hair cut and fancy new brief case = Karen, trying to make him over in a mold she desires; while the old messenger bag and old Jim = Pam who loves him just the way he is. And in the end, he takes the old messenger bag with him.  Very nicely done!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Yes, it's been evident throughout the whole season how much Karen's been apart of Jim's "evolution." But we don't have to worry about that anymore!

Dammit Karen!  Quit trying to change him.  Loved the House line and the general story concept.  Well done.

Author's Response: Luckily, we don't have to worry about her changing him anymore ;) Thanks for reading!

And he tries to laugh, but the word “artist” hurts a bit and the briefcase is getting increasingly heavier.

AND

“Well, I’m ready when you are,” he said, slinging the brown bag over his shoulder, the strap getting tangled around his arm since he’s seemed to have lost all coordination since she said yes.

Fabulous lines, Miss Wendy/Sway! I love the perspective you've taken here, and even the little details about Jim's day-to-day seem right on the mark. This was such a sweet story, and you really excelled in matching the tone of the finale. Fine Work Award to you, Sway!!!

CH

Author's Response: Fine Work Award? It's not a blue ribbon (only the cool people get those) but I'll take it! Seriously, it means so much to have a review like that from you since I'm such a geektastic fan of your work. I'm so glad that you liked this story and thank you again for reading, darlin!

Yay!!  I love more proof that Karen is the wrong one and Pam is the right one!  I like this :)

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it! We all know who the right one for him is (and I'm glad he finally figured it out!)

Another great contrast between Pam and Karen, and Scranton vs. Stamford Jim.  Glad he chose his heart over his head!  Nice story.  I love the Jimbag!

Author's Response: Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it!

Oh man, a woman after my own heart.

In my post-finale euphoria, this was one line of the gushy Office praise on my LJ...

And guh, I haven't felt such messenger bag love since S1 of VM.

Seriously, I almost spent $75 to buy Veronica's messenger bag on eBay back in the day, and if I knew what brand/model Jim's bag was, I'd be buying it for my husband.

Anyway...back to the story. I loved Karen's complete disconnect (like with the haircut and the evening in NYC) between who Jim IS and who she WANTS him to be. The fancy briefcase (with the shiny brass nameplate) is so not who he is. Plus I loved your backstory on the bag with Pam and the trip to Cugino's.

Nicely done!

Author's Response: So I have a brown messenger bag, bought way before I became the freak that I am about this show, and while it is a much more feminine version of it, I still geek out everytime I use it. Thank you so much for your kind words! And btw, I'm also on LJ! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the fabulousness that is this show :) My username is "swayinisdancin", feel free to add me! And thanks again for reading!

Great! I loved how you showed that Jim and Karen are just not right for each other and Pam will always love Jim...even with his man purse!

Author's Response: But he totally works that man purse, you have to admit. Thanks for reading!

Aw.  A very nice story.  I don't know if I've read any stories about the bag, but, yes, it's definitely an iconic part of who Jim is.  What I love is how you take that part of him and extend it to Jam as a whole.

I don't hate Karen, but I love stories like this that show exactly why Pam and Jim are Jam and Karen and Jim are ... not Jam.  Love it, m'dear.  Keep it up :D

Author's Response: Doofmeister! Thanks so much for your lovely review! That's what's great about fanfic...we get to take something that probably has nothing to do with JAM and make it so that it has everything to do with JAM. I'm glad you think I pulled it off :)

Yay!  That is a nice package.  The Jim Halpert package deal, that is.  (That sounded a lot dirtier than I intended...)

Seriously, the messenger bag deserves its own billing.

Author's Response: Next season, in the opening credits, they should have a shot of that messenger bag. Lets write to Greg Daniels shall we? But seriously, I'm glad you liked this! And yes, the Jim Halpert package deal is quite a bargain, I agree ;)

What a great idea. Jim's bag is so iconic - and Karen upgrading him to something more serious just nails what's wrong with their relationship. Also love how you tie in his reminiscense about his first 'date' with Pam - really poignant and shows rather than tells the critical difference in how she understands/appreciates him. The other Jim  - absolutely. Just lovely.

Author's Response: Thank you, I'm glad you liked the idea! It's just one of those pieces of his character that I've adored since day one. I was mostly inspired by that shot of him walking out of the corporate office, looking so professional except for that goofy bag. Thanks again for reading!

HOORAY!! I was wondering what had become of you lately, and I am glad to see that you're back in the game! (Yeah, like I'm really one to talk!)

Of all the "what happened behind the scenes of the finale" fics out there, this one is one of many favorites. Who knew that Jim's bag was so central to his decision making process? I guess that means the little gold yogurt lid was really just the kicker, yeah? :)

Excellent work as usual, and I especially liked the line about the briefcase getting heavier as Karen bugs him about it. That seems so Jim-esque. And I love the nod all the way back to that mysterious "first" date of Jim and Pam's at Cugino's as being the deciding factor now. Nicely done, and good to see you again!

Author's Response: Aww Mose, the first to review! Thank you so much for the support...it was just one of those things that hit me and had to be written. And now that I've taken the first step to return to MTT (and writing in general) it's your turn! Start cranking out those stories we know and love :)
