I loved this story. Especially when he put it on the line with this:

"Jim Halpert: I hope not, because I broke up with her to be with you."

His anguish during the talking head was amazing.

I am sorry, however, that the expensive meal went uneaten. Not even taken with them to eat later? *sigh* :)

I'm so glad the mods featured this again, because as a somewhat new reader here, I might never have found it. This was a wonderfully done story, and an interesting changeup from the cliched "first date went great" mantra.
Very believeable, and the characterizations were excellent. Brava.

Do you write for the show? Because I've spent many too many hours here reading fanfic here, god knows why, and even the most emotionally satisfying stuff- a lot of it feels like a different sort of Pam/Jim love story. It feels like someone else's names could be there, if not for all the TWSS's. And that's great. But this just felt like watching season four weeks in advance, but better, because you talked about the cameras (which I always love). Karen was sympathetic, thank god, the word 'banter' was blissfully absent, a green Toby, perfect Dwight... I could go on about all those genius moments you put in. The music, the movies. The very reasonable awkwardness and misunderstandings. Jim's tone was perfect. (Now I'm starting to get embarrassed at how profoundly I'm gushing.) But I can't overstate how wonderful the whole story is. Pitch perfect, deeply satisfying, touching work. Congratulations!

Very nice.  I can't believe I missed this story before.  It's going in my favs as soon as i'm done with this review.

Author's Response:

Thanks a million!  It was our first Office fic, so we're happy you enjoyed it!

The grilled cheese sandwich "peace offering" was a nice touch. I like how you've been able to pull in the little tid-bits from the actual show. Great story!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for all the lovely comments! We're really happy you enjoyed it!

Loved it! The Dwangela morse code was fantastic. I loved Dwight's description about the elk-head gift for the bride! Ha! And it looks like Old Pammy's going to get what she wants after all. Yay!

Great chapter! I'm glad Karen didn't go all psycho on him. Nice touch with Michael throwing the picture of the panda into the garbage can after his huge shpeal on "save the panda, save the world," which was sooo funny, by the way!

Wow. I was not expecting that. Nice! I like the irony of the title. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Love it! Those "perfect dates" never go the way they're supposed to! I like your use of present-tense. I've seen it in some other stories and haven't liked it, but you've managed to make it work.

This chapter is cute. I love the IMing. Patent leather thigh boots! Ha! Pam's confusion in the beginning is fun...so Pam!

This was fantastic. Your characterization was dead on, and there was yet another roadblock for them, but not the permanent, depressing kind I've seen in some fics. I loved it, and it made me almost forget there's another two months until we see what actually happens. ;)

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I seriously cannot wait until the new season starts. Thank god for fanfic or else I'm pretty sure I'd go nuts.

How do you write Pam's POV as well as Jim's? They're alike but so different, and their voices are very distinct and very in-character in this fic. It makes for a really awesome read- definitely a favorite.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for all the sweet comments! When I'm writing different characters' POV I just think of it as an extension of their dialogue and try to imagine what they'd think as well as what they'd say. I'm so glad you liked it!

Another awesome chapter. I really like seeing the 'directing' for the Talking Heads, like how the cameramen ask the office people to incorporate the questions in their responses so that the camerapeople's voices are never on tape; the documentary aspect of the show is one that I've never really thought about. Really liked Karen and Jim's break-up, too- how Karen wanted to work on it, and how Jim just abruptly ended things b/c of his focus on Pam; both feel *exactly* like something their characters would do. And the continuing Pam-Dwight alliance= hilarious.

Wow. This is definitely one of the most unique First Date fics I've ever read. Love Snarky!Jim and how Pam is both more forward and honest, but still avoids conflict, a bit- it really shows the slow evolution between her s2 and s3 selves. Can't wait to read the next chapter!

I *love* this. I love the look inside pre-date!Jim's head. He's excellently in-character- picking what music to play, what clothing to wear, basically being a girl, a la s2 Jim. Really great story...can't wait to see where it goes!

I LOVED THIS. This was so good, so very, very good. I loved their first date, how it started off so sweetly and lovely then just went straight to hell. I can totally see something like that happen, and I really liked the way that whole scene was written. It felt so authentic and totally in character. I thought you did a brilliant job of capturing all the characters, and I really liked how you wrote Karen. This was a really wonderful, fresh take on the first date and I loved it. Great job!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your comments. I was really worried I wouldn't do Karen justice so I'm glad you were happy it.

Ohhhhh!  I think I...don't even know what to say, because I'm just grinning like a damn fool right now.  Such a wonderful ending to a wonderful story.  Great, great job with this.  I am so pleased to have read it.

Author's Response: It's so much fun seeing your comments as you finish each chapter. I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

OMG, the Schrute family marriage proposal is HYSTERICAL.  It is so very Dwightlike.  Just perfect.  And I meant to say in an earlier review that your Michael is very authentic.  The way you write him, I can totally hear and see him saying those things.  Excellent job.

Oh, poor Jim.  Sigh.  I hope things get better for him soon.  You wouldn't let Jim stay sad, would you?  You wouldn't let him down like that--I just know you wouldn't!

Mwah ha ha ha ha ha!  (/evil laugh)

Aw, man.  That was harsh.  I know that it had to be aired eventually, but it makes me very sad.  :(

I guess I'll just have to trust that they both come around.  They will, right?  I don't like to threaten physical violence or anything, but...well, sometimes accidents happen...  ;)

Whee!  Anything that leads to Jim and Pam kissing IS the perfect date.  :)

Excellent.  I love when they IM.  There should be a whole episode that is only IMing and no spoken dialogue.  It'd be totally revolutionary!

Okay, perhaps NBC is not ready for that, but, luckily, you're around to write it for me anyway.  :)

Oh man, this is totally great! I didn't think anyone could make first date fic interesting, but this definitely delivers - I bought the happiness AND the angst, which is pretty awesome. WELL PLAYED, SIR.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! We both really love your fics so it makes us doubly happy that you liked ours.

It's been a long time since I've read any fic since so much of it is just half assed retreads of other fics, but this was absolutely amazing and perfect and well worth following the rec link to find.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
