I really like this fic.. what a great idea. I always wondered what Jim and especially Pam would say if confronted with what all the viewers see on the show.

Keep writing...can't wait to read more!!

M

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your review, Mirielle. I'd love to know what they would do as well. I really enjoyed the scene in Fun Run where they were confronted with video footage. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Ooh, this is getting good. I love how Pam was able to see Jim's love *right away* when seen from a third party perspective, even though she's been blind to it all along when it's been right in front of her face. But it's also completely natural that her next thought was "no, impossible". And emailing him was so brave - I wonder how that conversation will go!

Just an FYI - looks like you typo'ed "jamfancentral" as "janfancentral" in this last chapter (and in the end notes) - I don't think Roy would be quite as upset about Jan's fans ;)

Author's Response: Now, that would be a story! Roy upset that Jan has fans! I'll go in and fix that. Thanks for the heads up.  I think sometimes we get so wrapped up in our lives that we can't see what other people find so obvious. I'm working on the next chapter now so you won't have to wait too long to see how that conversation goes.  Thanks for your comments!

Ah, this is so good. :) I love the interactive site, and I have say, what IS Jim looking at in that picture on the site?? ;) I don't think I have ever seen that picture before! :) I can't wait to see where you take this story.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for your comments! I wanted to find something that Roy would find particularly upsetting if he were to see it. I also had to have the webmaster (Marissa) make some sort of off color comment that would set Roy off even further. Poor Jim is just looking down or something, but we needed some DRAMA :)  Thanks so much for your review.

Hah! I just went there and my first thought was, "Who's the idiot that picked Roy!?" Oh man, I love this story.

Author's Response: Pam's got her reasons!  Thanks again for your review!

I'm really enjoying this story.  Passive Pam seems pretty  bang on to me.  While I love Jim and Pam (angst and together), I've always had a soft spot for Roy.  He's a little rough around the edges, but you know he loved Pam.  And there was enough in him for her to love him for as long as she did.  I can't wait to see where you go with this.  While a break up is inevitable, I hope Roy doesn't come out too much like a thug.  Keep up the good work!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your review. i have a huge soft spot for Roy as well. You can tell he cares, he just doesn't have the tools to give Pam what she needs and wants.

Wow, that has to be horrifying to see on the screen for Jim. To see yourself laid bare and the things you thought you were keeping to yourself out there for anyone to see? Excrutiating!

Great job and I can't wait to see what happens now that Jim knows.

Author's Response: I love torturing Jim in fic...of course then I like making everything better. I really think this would be the worst thing for him. He's so afraid of losing what he has with her. Poor Jim! Thanks for your review!

And the plot thickens.  I'm feeling tense!  "…a thin rope of words, gauzily snaking out to keep her tied to him for just a little longer."  What a great image.

Author's Response: Thanks Nan!  I really appreciate your kind words. That image is something I went back and added on a rewrite, so I'm glad you liked it.

That is SO cool! What a great way to have the readers become so interactive :)  I'm off to comment now!

Author's Response: Hee!!! Saw that you commented, Wendy. Thanks so much for your review AND comment.

Hey, I'm really liking this story.  It's different from the other fanfictions that mention fanfictions, because in all the other ones I've seen, they're dating.  The fact that they're not together in this story makes it really, really interesting.  Also, the fact that Jim hasn't even told Pam he loves her yet.  I'm really excited to see where this is going.  I can't wait for your update!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your review. I'm sorry you had to wait so long for an update.

Oh, holy carp.  That is too meta.

And Jim kicking himself as Pam leaves each night is just tearing my heart out.  Throughout S2, we saw Jim's heart on his sleeve, but it was sort of just romanticized (IMHO), I never saw it as being as wrenching as S3 was for Pam.  Until now.  Guh.

Author's Response: Thanks for your review Lisa.  I do tend to get a bit meta, don't I?  I tried to think of Jim's comments in Money about how he was actually depressed by the entire situation with Pam and Roy and use them to inform his S2 character.

This is incredible. I was rooting for Pam to get back with Roy for a little while there during season 3, so I enjoy reading a sympathetic Roy POV. Can't wait to read more!

Author's Response: Thanks for your review. You know, if there weren't a Jim in Pam's life, I would have liked to have seen how Fancy New Roy and Pam could have made things work.

I really enjoyed "Observer Effect" and I can tell I'm going to love this one too.
You really have a wonderful talent for crafting beautiful sentences full of imagery and depth. I can see you're a true writer at heart.
Keep it up! I'm looking forward to reading more!

Author's Response: Thank you so very much for your comments about my stories and my writing. They mean a lot to me.

AWww, I actually feel sorry for Roy. And think Halpert is a bit of a girl. :P

Loving the star-ness. :D

I love this story... I hate Roy, but you almost make me like him. almost...

Author's Response: Thanks for the review.  I'm glad I can help you maybe almost see something good in the guy.

"He wanted to blacken the eyes that were the feature of a whole message board section called, "I wish someone would look at me the way that Jim looks at Pam."

I absolutely love that there's a message board with that thread in it while the documentary is running!

And this line says everything about what went wrong with Roy and Pam:

"What he wanted was her, his own personal cheerleader and support system…someone who delighted in his accomplishments but who didn’t expect anything of him other than for him to hold her purse while she situated herself next to him at the movies."

Author's Response: Wouldn't that be fun? I think Jim and Pam may have to pay that message board a visit. Thanks so very much for your reivew. Roy and Pam were just wrong for each other...probably from the beginning.

Great idea for a story!  I love that Roy's first thought was "hitting on my girlfriend", before he changed it to fiancee.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your reivew.  I don't think Roy was ready for marriage and a lot of his comments showed it.

I love where you're going with this. It's so nice to see a portrayal of Roy as an actual decent guy. I never really saw him as a violent guy on the show. I know there was the one time when he found out about Jim and Pam, but besides that he never really seemed to get physical. It really seems that this is what would go on in his head. Hmm, I just remembered when he shoved Jim during Hot Girl. Maybe he gets a little physical, lol. Anyway, I think your take of Roy is very true to the character, and I really enjoyed this chapter. More soon please!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for your review. I really think the writers on the show did a good job with Roy. They could have made him into a stereotype who beat Pam or who was a total jerk...but he wasn't. He was real. There was something there for Pam to love. I really appreciate your comments.

GITC--When I think of why I love and read fanfic, I realize it's because of stories like this. Fic gives us a chance to think, probe, peruse, and experiment with characters who, in normal TV viewing, get only a few seconds of time a week. Roy was such a fascinating character when we had him, and it's already a treat to see so far into his psyche and learn more about what makes him tick. You have a great handle on his character (the imagery and detail of the bleacher story was perfect), and I simply cannot wait for more! -CH

Author's Response: CH--I'm with you. I love the fanfic for filling in the spaces and flushing out the characters. I think that's one of the reasons that I love The Office so much. There's so much that can be done and explored with these characters.  Thanks so much for your review. I'm glad you liked the bleacher scene.

I absolutely love this so far! It's so hard for me to justify Roy's decisions, but you've now shown me how! It's really great so far, since it makes me view the love triangle from an angle that I'd never explore. Awesome! Yay you!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your review.  I really like the Roy as a character because he's so real and raw. I'm so glad you like my portrayal of him.
