This is all kinds of hot.

Author's Response: Why thank you!

so I'm ignoring your suggestion and reading this one first... meeting someone from Jim's past intrigued me.

I'm going to leave a gargantuan review at the end, but I needed to say that
‘Yeah, she’s fine,’ Sara answered, pulling him towards the elevator. ‘I was just blabbing to her. Nothing important. Really liked her, by the way.’
resulted in me laughing out loud. Sara's voice was so clear in my mind; clearly telling him 'girl talk- so MYOB!'.

Entertaining, but in a wonderfully substantial way.

Author's Response:

Sorry to be such a bossy little thing, telling you what to read, lol. It’s not that I don’t have affection for these early stories – I just kind of cringe a little, cause my writing has gotten a bit sparer since then. But, I just glanced over this for the first time in ages, and noticed something: I gave Jim writing aspirations way back in pre-Philly Jim days. Who knew? And this was also written before Karen had even been invented. Wow.

Anyway, Sara is (I think) the only totally 'made-up' major character I’ve ever used in a fanfic, so I’m glad she felt real to you. (I tend to be more interested in riffing on canon-based stuff.) Also glad you're finding this entertaining, but not mindless. Thanks so much variella - flattered that you're checking out my stuff. ;-)

So, hope you’ll read some later stuff, but glad you’re having fun with this too!

Aww fluffy goodness! I'm so glad everything worked out for everyone. ♥

Author's Response: As I mentioned before, I often have trouble with my older fics (much more partial to the more recent ones), but I still have a soft spot for this one. Thanks for finding it and being so kind!

Oh yay!! This chapter made me so happy. I love Jim's cute little way of saying Pam could have a "do over" (or three...). Aw!!

Author's Response: This ending is so AU now - glad to hear you think it works anyway. As I recall, it made me happy to write it too. Thanks, Finer Things.

Heehee, I love how likable Sara is. And Jim walking in on their conversation -- eek awkward!

Author's Response: You know, I hadn't read this fic for a while - such fun that someone is discovering it again! (PS - I kind of like Sara too.)

Heehee, that last line was really cute! Very emotional chapter, I could really feel for both Jim and Sara. *sigh*

Author's Response: Aw, that's great to hear. I hoped it would read as emotionally cathartic. Much appreciated!

Aw, you have a great Jim voice. And good job making me like Sara. LOL!!

Author's Response: Love hearing my Jim voice works. And glad you liked Sara - I usually shy away from inventing non-canon characters, but this story kind of demanded it. Thanks much!

This storry is so sweet.  I agree with you- I think its a reasonable assumption to make that Jim would have been in love previously.  And I absolutely love how you managed to incorporate her into the story.  The ending couldn't have been more beautiful. Amazing!

Author's Response: Wow, this is an old one...hadn't thought about it in ages and just went back and skimmed it myself. I think it was like my 3rd story ever and between that and the time it was written (last summer,) it just seems so hopeful. Also only time I ever used a non-canon character...glad you thought she worked - I recall being a bit uneasy about that. I think I was just really craving some Jim-back story at that point - happy you agree it makes sense for him to have been in love once before. Anyway, before this becomes a novella...I'll just say thanks, StarryDreamer, for your lovely review.

He kissed her for a very long time, hard and deep and every way he’d ever wanted to…and he’d spent a lot of time thinking about how he’d wanted to.

I love lines like this, that capture the passion Jim hides so well.

so fierce and ecstatic that it made him dizzy, he heard her moaning and then realized it was coming from him too. It blended together into the most perfect sound he’d ever heard.

Wow. /Jim

Passion, indeed.

If I have any critique about this chapter, it's that they talk too much. Most fanfic talks too much anyway, so I'm used to it, but next time Pam pours out her heart to Jim, I think dialogue would be superfluous.

Author's Response:

Hmmm. You could be right re: talking. My thinking, though, is that after all these years of wanting this moment, when it finally happened, Jim would be momentarily stunned, need to digest it. Some dialogue would ensue, but they wouldn't talk it to death either.

Then KABOOM.

Anyway - thanks for all the great feedback...much appreciated!

You already know what a great friend he is. Well, trust me, he’s an even better lover. If I knew then what I know now, I would have nailed his shoes to the floor.

LOL!!!! What a thing to tell Pam! What a mindfuck! I love it.

Author's Response: Well someone had to grab that girl by the collar and shake her...the beauty of fic - you can just invent someone to get the job done! Glad you enjoyed!

If you think that was some kind of pity fuck, forget it, Jim.

*cheering*

Author's Response: Seriously, pity is about the last thing I imagine as incentive when it comes to that boy.

slippery borders that were never quite where they were supposed to be

Brilliant line.

she’d been too paralyzed with fear to go there with him, clinging instead to the lie like a life preserver.

What a true thing.

His sense of relief was palpable, like he’d been given an unexpected gift, one he hadn’t even realized he’d so badly needed.

Wonderful.

What I like her eis your insight into the male psyche vis a vis sex. I doubt Pam could ever live with herself after "casual sex", but Jim definitely could. That doesn't make him a bad person, just a normal man. Thanks for making him real.

Author's Response:

Your welcome. I think on one level it was about 'casual' sex as a release (from a consuming emotional state); but also she was someone he trusted, who understood him and with whom he had history...making it perhaps not quite casual, but not about romance either. And yeah, men seem to be able to go there in a less complicated way (biological? enculturated? Who knows?)

I haven't started reading yet, but I feel it's my civic duty to point out that the fact that this story was marked as *not* complete is the main reason I didn't click on it before. =P I'm going to read it now because I realise I was an idiot for not reading it before, but I'd suggest you change it. If you can.

Really.

Author's Response:

Thanks for pointing that out - will try to change it. Not sure how, but will investigate.

Actually, ALL my stories on this site are currently complete (whether they say so or not!) so read away...and I love feedback! Thanks again.

OMG, this made me lose it:
‘I was just wondering if maybe…if you could…please… just love me again.’

Beautiful.

Author's Response:

Thank you! But sorry to make you lose it!

And it's always such a nice surprise to see one of my older fics getting read. In fact, I just re-read one I'd written a while ago ('Okay') and thought I should have posted it now, it seems suddenly more relevant. Oh well. Thanks for re-visiting the back log!

Mmm. You know, I usually don't like stories where people from Jim's or Pam's past show up + facilitate. But people from Jim/Pam's past who show up to offer sexual release + understanding? Kryptonite!!!

Seriously, I followed your comment at Paper Bride to this fic, and so glad I did. Delicious details without full-on play-by-play. Great characterizations. And I'm a real sucker for a Jim POV. I like your use of the do-over - how Jim brings it up, and of course Pam's line about do-overs only being for when you didn't get it right the first time. Awesome ;)

Author's Response:

Glad you took a gander. And I agree - I generally don't like stories that introduce new characters (with a few notable exceptions.) I've never done it in a story before or since...but this one kind of invaded my thoughts and I had to purge. Took some liberties with the Jim as writer thing too, but...I just like him like that. And yes indeed, the boy certainly deserved a little sexual release.

Glad you liked it. Especially appreciate your comments re: characterization and suggestive details. I guess the 'do-over' is bound to become the new literary motif. Who knew?

Awesome ending!  I really enjoyed this story. :)

Author's Response: Thanks so much...really glad you liked it. The ending was really fun to write. (I'm also glad it's still getting read, now that it's moved down the ladder off the first 'most recent' page - so many great stories being posted here lately!)

Good job on the whole story - angst-y and sweet and a happy ending!

Author's Response: I'm much too much of a romantic not to have it end happy...gotta leaven it with some angst though. Thanks!

Colette - I thought I'd already told you - but I guess not. :)  I find it hard to read/write Jim with anyone else but you pulled it off just beautifully.  And Pam getting a clue?  One of my favorite things EVER.

Author's Response:

Was wondering what you thought...yeah, I find it difficult to imagine him with anyone else as well, which is partly why I was intrigued by attempting this. Don't think I even would have gone there, if I hadn't known it would lead him back to Pam and been a way to fill in some of Jim's history (at least according to my overwrought imagination!) Really glad you liked it.

About time that girl got a clue...I mean, seriously.
