Well, congrats. You made me feel for Roy.

Author's Response:

I developed a weird soft spot for Roy over the years. I got mushy about Karen sometimes, too. Stupid show making even the "bad guys" well-rounded real characters. Blah. :)

Sorry for the Roy feels! (ha)

Oh Roy. Probably a good idea not to tell her that one but still...

Author's Response: Roy was most definitely the wrong guy for Pam, but I always thought he had an interesting story, too. Thanks for finding this and taking the time to comment!

Okay, first off, my computer is broken (as always), and I am using my mom's computer. But since she doesn't know about my fanfic habit, this is being super secretive. Shhh! Don't tell her okay?

Aww, Poor Roy. Is it bad that I am now thinking wow I can relate to Roy? Cause I never ever thought that would happen. No joke.
My New Years was spent all alone, with three kids sleeping upstairs. No alcohol was involved in mine. It was just me, Dick Clark, and nothing else. Was pretty crappy. Wasn't happy. I didn't even try to resolve to be happy this coming year (was too depressing to make resolutions about happiness).

Now that sounds like a really depressing review. It got better. The kids parents got home not much later, I went home, saw my puppy, went to sleep. And, a week in to the new year, its not a horrible time.

Oh well. I must submit this review and then go erase all traces of this website. But at least the email won't be in my inbox anymore, taunting me that there is a story I wasn't able to read. Cause now I read it. Take that email!

Happy (way belated) New Year!

Author's Response: Oooh, I'm sorry you didn't have a very peppy New Year's Eve! Mine was similarly quiet. We ate cheesecake, watched Dick Clark, and went to bed. Woo! Anyway, I'm glad things are looking up. Thank you for reading my story, and for being so great about your wonderful reviews.

Awww Roy.  The poor lug.   Maybe someday he'll figure it out - or maybe he just hasn't found the right person to help him figure it out yet.

I always had a soft spot for him and wanted him to be happy - just - you know - not w/Pam. :)

Author's Response: Exactly. As long as he isn't with Pam, I'm very pleased for him to be in a happy relationship. I think he had a long way to go- longer than Pam or Jim, really- in order to be his best self. I wanted to show him in the process, but not there yet. Thanks so much!

Aw, nice job!  I hope Roy is happy again.  I hope he finds his Karen, so to speak. :)

I like how seeing other people happy made Roy feel a bit better; so often, it's the opposite.

Author's Response: Thank you! I want Roy to be happy, too- not with Pam, but happy! :)  Yes, I thought about whether it was realistic that the neighbors would actually cheer him up, but I think they would. There's hope; the proof of it is right outside his window. Thanks again!

This is sad, but so true to Roy, kind of like he's wearily picking himself up - to do it again. I really like the last stanza too - her looking disappointed...I guess he's used to that, huh? This is a wonderful and subtle snapshot of him, nqllisi.

Author's Response: Thank you, ma'am. I sort of got to wondering what Roy was up to, and how he's doing. I think he'll be OK. Happy New Year!

I agree with Roy re watching Dick Clark! I like that Roy has made some changes in his life - staying in on NYE,  only having 1 beer, being happy for the neighbors - and then making a very positive resolution. I was sad he didn't tell the new girl his resolution, but maybe in telling her what it was he would have to tell her what had made him so unhappy to begin with.

Forgot to add - also loved the double meaning of the title.

Author's Response: Oh, thanks for finding some positive here- I was starting to fear that I'd gone overboard with the melancholy. Yes, things could definitely look up for Roy this year, as long as he sticks with the positive things he's already done. Also, I'm very happy you noticed the title- I actually thought of that, first, and then came up with a story to fit. Sort of backwards, but it worked out. Happy New Year!

Lovely look at Roy.  The sadness was killing me (New Year's is always hit or miss, isn't it?), but in a good way.  Really loved the ending.  Oh, Roy.  Poor new girl.

Author's Response: NYE really is hit or miss...and when the new year doesn't promise much in the way of happiness, it's just worse. I'm actually very optimistic for 2008, so I'm not sure where this came from. Thank you so much for your kind words!

Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for Roy but I really liked this. As sad as it makes me to know that this is probably his life now, I think he can find some happiness in '08. Awesome job, as always. :)

Author's Response: Thank you very much! Every once in a while I get mushy about Roy. Not sure what that's about...anyway, thank you again, and Happy New Year!

I really liked this, even though it makes me kind of sad for Roy.

Author's Response: Yeah, it made me sad for him, too. I just want good things for him, and maybe he can turn everything around in 2008. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

Oh wow, poor Roy. That was so beautiful and sad! I love that he was happy for the neighbors instead of being bitter. And then he didn't tell the cute new girl his resolution. Man.

Happy New Year lis!

Author's Response: Thanks, babe! I don't know what came over me to inspire melancholy Roy-fic, but I'm glad you liked it.

Awww...trying to make us feel sympathy for a Roy?  I guess the clueless deserve our compassion this time of year.   :-)

I liked it, in that achy, kinda pulling at your heart strings kind of way.   Do you know one of the fanfics I find myself going back to in my mind is your Eggshells?  It's true.  :-)

Author's Response:

I think of "Eggshells" every time I boil eggs for any reason. I guess that's not what you mean, though, eh? Hee.

Seriously, thank you. That's so cool. I really think that it took so much for them to "break through their shells, but now they're going to be so, sooo happy.  Not so much for Roy, but if he'd just try to learn from his break-up with Pam...well, there's hope. It is a new year, after all. Thank you!
