This is really great. I've always liked Karen, but by the end I was seeing things exactly her way -- feeling her same anger and disgust. Nicely done.

I said this on the message board, but I think you did her good.  (horny snicker).  I liked it.  There's much to see when you look in the head of a strong person at the moment they are most weak.  You kept the story about Karen and didn't let it degenerate into Karen reflecting on the greatness of happy jam.  Disgust is more appropriate.  (Jim slinking away again was a nice touch, too.)  Great story!

Author's Response: thank you very much! it means a lot coming from such a strong supporter of karen to hear i did her some sort of justice. and i really do feel there is not enough fic exploring this part of her, the part that was a woman in love with a man who took her for granted instead of just a plot device to get the happy couple together. rnanyway, thanks again for the review!

'But her foolish heart still wanted him to if for no other reason than to prove that her time with him wasn’t a complete waste.'

what a awesome line.  what person with a broken heart hasn't thought that very same thing?  very powerful and so painful.  I really don't think there is nearly enough 'what about karen?' stories and I can't stand her.  so thanks a lot for a great read

Author's Response: wow thank you so much for your kind words. i completely agree with their not being enough 'what about karen' fic - i am a huge jim/pam fan but also can recogize there was an innocent party involved who got hurt in the process of bringing them together. rnthanks again for your review!

"But instead of commenting on how nice her suit fit, he bought her a cardigan sweater. Instead of running his fingers through her shiny flat hair, he curled the ends around his fingertips. Instead of congratulating her on a successful sales call, he stood at the reception desk and discussed solitaire scores and CIA missions."

"He took her heart and he took her hope and he took her for granted but he would not take her pride and her professionalism with it."

Such amazing lines. I'm definitely not a Karen fan but I do appreciate good Karen stories as she really was in a no win situation. This was beautifully done.  And the last line was just perfect.

Author's Response: thank you very much! i know the general opinion is very much the same and i'm glad you could still appreciate the story for what it was:) thanks for your review!

Nice job, but... Jim took Pam to a "dive bar" on their first real date?  I hope not. ;)  I also have to take exception to this statement: "She was tall..."  Rashida Jones is about 5'4", not even quite average for a woman her age, I don't think.  I can't imagine Karen thinks of herself as tall, especially when she was dating Jim at 6'3".

I like Karen's strength here.  She's obviously hurting, but she's strong and determined to get through it.  I like how she knew not to go into work, and this line: "He took her heart and he took her hope and he took her for granted but he would not take her pride and her professionalism with it."  I liked the bit about Jim checking out the tea bags even though he didn't drink it, also -- that was a neat detail.

Your final line "Because today, it still fucking hurt" is a great way to end it.

Author's Response: good point, re: being tall. i removed that - i have a problem in that i always think people on tv/movies/etc are always a lot taller than they are IRL. hehe. thanks for catching it :) also, i chose the dive bar for her to run into them briefly because i envision their first date as something not ordinary and could see him taking her somewhere cheesy and chill away from prying eyes. i know most would disagree but since their relationship has been so unconventional from the start, i thought their first date might be as well. rnrnin any case, thank you so much for your reactions and i'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Nice job!  Actually makes me feel sorry for Karen.  You really capture what I imagine her mindset would have been.
