I don't think this was an "easy way out" - I think their break-up certainly could have gone like this after the "Yes" heard round the world. Personally I think Karen breaking up with him just this way seemed more realistic that what we actually saw. And I thought Jim's confused reaction here was just perfect for the scenario. Great job.
