I was trying to figure out what Catlicks were. And then Catholics. That is so cute!
Trust me, I went for years trying to figure out Ash Wednesday. In fact, I became atheist before I did.

Its short, but cute!

Author's Response:

"Its short, but cute!"  -- That's what she's unlikely to say. ;)

I'm glad you liked it, EH!  Thanks for reading and reviewing! :)

Too cute! As an elementary school-aged protestant, my sister once attended a fire-safety seminar on Ash Wednesday. She came home very excited that the fireman giving the presentation had obviously just come from a fire! (he had ashes on his head and everything!). Hee. This was a great addition to your series. Can't wait for what's next!

Author's Response:

That's so adorable! :)  I grew up Protestant in a highly Catholic town, and it did seem like there were many interesting mysteries they were all sharing.  Midnight Mass?  You guys get to stay up until Midnight?!

I'm glad you liked it, lis.  It's obviously a bit fluffier than most of my stuff.  This series just wants to be fluffy. ;)

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!

"No, Daddy! I did it! Me and Joey wanna be catlicks!" said Laura, proudly.

Such a cute story!  Great job!!

Author's Response:

I don't know what it is about these holidays that's making me go all fluffy. ;)  I'm glad you like it. :)

For whatever it's worth, I made the comment about Pam having "ashes" because the story ended with the Sharpie in Jim's hands.

Author's Response: Ha!!  He'd be in sooo much trouble! :)  You're evil, Keds.  I didn't even think of that. :)

I had to quit smoking for lent this year, so as you can probably guess...i'm kinda grumpy.

But this story made me feel just a little better about being a non-smoking "catlick"

Author's Response:

Hey, PPC!  And you don't have to wash your face while it's still today!! (A 'bonus' only a kid could appreciate.) ;)

You're taking the high road with Lent and giving up something really tough to give up!  Kudos.  For your health, I hope you continue that.  Then next year, since you gave up such a tough thing this year for good, you could give up something easy.  Like... "no 'easy bake oven' cakes" or "no eating unsweetened baking chocolate" "no sleeping with the ugly gross guy from accounting."  You know, give yourself a break next year. ;)

I'm glad this cheered you up a bit!  Little Laura Halpert totally wants to be you. ;)

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, PPC!  :)

Oh, sweet jeebus, TLK.  Something tells me this is slightly autobiographical.  And hilarious.

Author's Response:

Ha!  Well, of course we've had Sharpie incidents, including older ones marking up younger ones -- one time it was not only the face, but the bottom of the feet, the back of the neck, the belly, inside the ear!!!  Multi-colored, too!  I know there are non-parents who would say, "Well why do you keep markers where they can get them?"  Ha!  They can get into way more than the non-parents would think. ;)

My kids haven't actually noticed Ash Wednesday or its effects, but Scranton and the surrounding areas are way more Catholic than where we are right now.  I did grow up in a more Catholic area, though, and I definitely wondered about those ashy faces. ;)

Thanks for reading and reviewing, lisahoo! :)

That was too cute for words!

Author's Response:

Thanks!  It's not my usual kind of thing, but it's what came to me for Ash Wednesday. ;)  I always did find it mysterious when I was a kid that all these people had dirty foreheads on the same day.  Also, I'm a mom -- my kids have definitely gone wild with a Sharpie a time or two.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, khand3stooges!  :)

That was adorable.  Why am I picturing Pam with "ashes" on her forehead?

Author's Response:

I don't know! Since there are a lot of Catholics in and around Scranton, I only meant that Laura had seen a lot of people with ashes on their foreheads, not that Pam had them.  Maybe you just think it would be cute if Laura marked up Mommy's forehead. ;)

I'm glad you liked it, Keds.  Thanks for reading and reviewing!! :)
