This is adorable, and while I wouldn't give up the real thing, the highest compliment I can give is that this would have worked just as well.

This is so much better than the real ending.

Ooh, yay! Premise sounds awesome!
(and seriously - if GD is trading TO for laptops.... I will so give up this piece of crap!)

Oh, poor Pam. I don't like it (and not really) because I hate seeing Pam hurt, especially when I know there is something so good coming so sooon.

So good it hurts!

Such a happy ending! Which I needed because the first part made me cry. I love it in a totally different way than I loved the original version!

Author's Response: I hear you, Emily - I don't like seeing Pam hurt either.  I just needed to let this out, though. lol.  I also get what you're saying about loving it in a different way than the original.  As much as I might enjoy something similar to what I wrote, a little part of me will always love "it's a date" and nothing could change that.  Thanks for reading and reviewing! -K

"After a few minutes he brushes his lips over her hair and clears his throat to speak.

“I got your note.” He whispers."

That made me melt. I liked your ending even better than the ending we got.

Author's Response: Aw, thanks kaystar!  What a nice thing to say.  I'm glad you enjoyed it :) -K

Just HAD to take a little detour a little further through angstville, huh?  Nicely done, Kells!

Author's Response: Ha!  What can I say - I'm a glutton for punishment, you know?  As long as they make it to that happy ending, I can enjoy the angsty journey.  (is angsty a word?) Thanks for reading and reviewing, lisahoo!

Wow, kells, I got teary-eyed reading that.  Yes, Pam was trying her best to remain optimistic, but it was obvious with all her references to Jim that she was missing him that day and contemplating her future without him.

And honestly, I would have loved to see your version on the show, but I'll bet GD wouldn't want us all to jump off the ledge seeing poor Pam leaving the office alone in tears.

Great job and great hug at the end!

Author's Response: Yes!  Honestly I just wanted to give Pam a big ol' hug that whole episode - despite her claims I think she was a little hopeful, but by her last talking head she'd sort of accepted that he would probably be gone and you could see it sort of sinking in as she spoke.  Such a beautiful scene.  I agree with you, though, it would have been so sad to see her actually cry on the show.  Those writers and editors - they know what they're doin'! lol.  Glad you enjoyed it!  Thanks for reading and reviewing, EH. -K

Aww, this was very sweet. It is kind of killing me to know that this scene is out there somewhere on some computer hard drive and we will never get to see it! But this is a great take on it and I really enjoyed reading it!

Author's Response: Hi Sudz!  Yes, knowing there is another ending out there somewhere kills me as well.  I was really really hoping it would have popped up on the S3 DVD but no such luck.  Maybe one day it will come up on some anniversary edition DVD or something, lol.  I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for reading and reviewing! -K

Awww, kells, this is lovely!  You know, I really bought Pam's claim that she was totally fine in the ending we saw, but after reading this, I completely agree with your take on it.  She would have held it together as long as she could (and that was a long day for her!) but I do think she would have had a good cry thinking Jim was really gone.  And the hug!  So sweet!

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing, Sweetpea!  I do think that Pam had come a long way and she knew that she would be okay without Jim, but deep down she would be heartbroken if she lost him all over again, so to speak. I think she would have always had some regret in her mind about the way things happened between them, and I tried to convey that here.  I'm glad I can make you see it my way, too. lol.  Thanks again :) - K

Very charming, kells8995! I loved this, and the repetition of "I'm totally fine" was very effective. Nice work! -CH

Author's Response: Thanks so much, Becky.  I was worried that the "I'm totally fine" mantra would get to be too much...so I'm glad it worked for you.  Thanks for reading and reviewing. - K

Really nicely done.  I think that's pretty much exactly what it could have been.  And, much as I love what we actually got to see, that might have been even a little sweeter.

Author's Response:

Thanks, brokenloon!  I'm glad you liked it.  I will admit I would have loved to see a hug or something between them at the end, so this is how I work it out, hehe.  Thanks for reading and reviewing :) -K

Really nice job, Kells.  I can envision this.  f it had happened this way, I probably would have cried a little more, but I would have been totally OK with the outcome.  Wish we could have seen any alternate ending.

Author's Response: Thanks, NanReg.  I heard about the alternate ending thing around the time of the finale last season, and I was really really hoping they'd put it on the DVD, but unfortunately, no dice.  So..this is my way of getting what I want, lol.  Glad you enjoyed, and thanks again for reading and reviewing! -K

Aw, now I'm all ferklempt. I like how you repeated the refrain I'm totally fine, then made it come true at the end. So appropriate, cause that TH line really did sum up the brave/wistful face she put on in that episode. Also, this line: He gives her a sad little half smile and she feels something warm wrap around her heart made me go all gooey. In a good way. ;-) Lovely, m'am.

PS I know there were two endings, both netting out with them together, but did GD specifically say there was an elevator one? How'd I miss that, lol?

Author's Response:

Thanks, Colette!  During that whole episode, but especially the end, it felt to me like Pam was trying to convince everyone, and herself, that she was okay.  And let's face it, she would have been, but I think she was much happier that he came back.

In regards to that scene - I knew I had read it somewhere, so of course I had to look it up before I responded to you.  In the forums, in the Jim & Pam It's a Date thread (the first one, lol) - page #6, reply #87, Hot Dog Fingers posted a little Q&A with Greg and Dave Rodgers (sp?) about that alternate scene.  It's been in my head ever since.  Not sure what the interview was from, though.  I would love to see that scene, that's for sure.

Anyway, thanks for reading and reviewing! -K

This was very sweet. I love angst, as long as there's some glimmer of hope at the end. Did you know that you changed tense in the middle of the story?

--Strider

Author's Response:

Thanks for the toughtful review, Strider! You know, I wrote this and posted it quick this morning...that's what I get for not using a beta.  I made some changes, and I think it works better now.  The past tense didn't work as nicely, I don't think.  Hopefully you'll agree.  Thanks for reading and reviewing.  -K

That was really precious.  But I'm not sure if that had been the real ending if I could have handled myself through the summer, that "it's a date" saved my sanity.

But this one had a really sweet hug, which is way better :) great job

Author's Response:

Oh yeah, I was very happy with the ending we got, for sure!  I just always had this scenario in my mind when I heard there was an alternate ending.

Thanks for reading and reviewing, PamPongChamp! -K

Very cute.  You did a great job of how I'm sure Pam was feeling that day.

Author's Response: Thanks so much, khand3stooges!  I really think that Pam tried so hard that day to put on a happy face, but I always felt that if he didn't show up she would have been heartbroken.  Thanks for reading and reviewing :) - K

I really enjoy this one. Love the angst. I'm a big fan of the angsty stuff.

Author's Response:

Thanks bright_lights!  If I'm being totally honest, I like the angsty stuff myself, especially when it comes with a happy ending ;)

Thanks for reading and reviewing! -K

What an original idea to write about.  Very well done.  I loved this.  Her angst was so believable, and yet so was the happy ending.

Author's Response: Thanks, Annika!  This has been bouncing in my head ever since I heard there was another ending, and I needed to let it out!  Thanks for reading and reviewing! -K

"Is it April 10th yet?"  --No kidding!  I loved your alternate ending.  We need more of these little snippets to get us through to the next month.

Author's Response:

Seriously, the next few weeks cannot go by fast enough.  I'll be addicted to MTT in the meantime.  I wait, I've been addicted for a while, now ;)

Thankds for reading and reviewing, Abigail! -K
