This story is seriously the best I've ever read. Soo real and honest. It's quite wonderful, the inner monologues of these two is perfect. I love the banter as well! You have Jam down perfectly. More soon PLEASE!! =)

I'd shamelessly be one of those girls at the bar speculating like a hawk.. Hahaha.

Author's Response: I'd be right there at the bar with you. Thanks so much for your review. You don't know how much it means to me to know that people enjoy what I write. I'm so appreciative of your comments.

I'm simply loving this story. It is so natural and you've really written the characters convincingly! Seriously, I'm going to have a really hard time getting back to work -- I just want to read all day long!!! Thanks! :)

I appreciate the quietness of this chapter. One can express so much in the quiet.

I really felt for Jim in this chapter. The image of him watching Pam and Roy cuddle on the plane was very painful, because, I think, of its simplicity. The normalcy of it made it hurt. I think about the Jim we see on the show, and that Jim doesn’t really get to experience “Pam and Roy” much, and the few times we have seen him witness it, his feelings are all too apparent. I always feel like, on the show, seeing them together is something of a shock to Jim. He lives in this world 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, where Pam is kind of, in a way, his. When Roy intrudes on that picture, he always seems like he’s been rudely awakened from a really good dream. I think you’ve done such a great job of showing how painful it’s going to be for him to see them together for a long period of time.

I also enjoyed your thoughts on the Booze Cruise and how that is now affecting his behavior toward Pam. I think Jim is doing the right thing, or is going to try to do the right thing, in attempting to stop having feelings for Pam. It won’t work, but I like seeing that attempt. With the networks blatant attempts to manipulate things and Pam’s double seeming-rejection, it’s really the only thing he could do.

Anna is also such an interesting character. You could have made her despicable or a stereotypical corporate/media-type person, but I am really liking the fact that she cares for these people and that she’s seeing them as people and not as story lines. Her straightforwardness is great.

The schedule at the beginning was interesting. I look forward to seeing how this trip plays out. I have to wonder if Roy will notice or comment on the fact that Beesley and Halpert are a very common name combination in the itinerary. The Late Show should be awesome. I’m really looking forward to reading it.

Again, you’re doing awesome things here and I’m looking forward to more!!

Author's Response:

Cedar--I can't tell you how much I appreciate your reviews...or maybe I already have.

I agree with you about Jim and normalcy. I think that what probably gets to Jim more than thinking about Pam and Roy having sex (though I'm sure that gets to him as well) are things like knowing that her clothes are next to Roy in the closet or that they have a bill paying routine or that Roy knows things about Pam (color of toothbrush, what side of the bed she sleeps on, her family) that Jim doesn't know. That's where the torture of seeing her everyday comes from...knowing that at the end of the day she has a whole other life.

I'm always pleased when people respond well to original characters, so yeah...for what you said about Anna.

Thanks so much for your feedback and encouragement.

Hey, I work at one of the places on day one! And Creed on Jim Ladd? Lord Have Mercy.

Anyways, good chapter, and once again with the imagery!
Love this:
"Standing on the deck of the ship, watching the moonlight ripple off of the dark water below and feeling the brisk air that was just begging to snow, he had realized that the solution to his problem was actually quite simple."

Author's Response: Oooh! So at least I got my list of "real" things right.  I honestly couldn't think of anything for Creed to do or anything the network would want him to do. I figured that he could talk about music with Jim.  Thanks for your review. I really appreciate it.

I've been following this story for awhile, and this part really made me feel bad for Jim. I think thats why I like him in the series in the first place... I pity him 'cause he's worse off than me lol. Also... hes freakin adorable.

anyway keep up the good stuff!

Author's Response: Tiny Dundie-- First off...thanks for following this story.  I have to agree with you about Jim. I just watcheded all of S2 and I realized that I kind of miss angstful, tortured, Jim. His pathos is one of the things that inititally drew me to the character. Thanks for your review.

This is a great story. Jim's tortured uncertainty really comes through... it's almost hard to read. This bit was really striking:

...his feelings for her jumping into his throat and onto his tongue…an energy between the two of them that he knew had to mean something…

Well done!

Author's Response: Thank you so very much, Callisto. I really appreciate your review. I'm beginning to wonder if I should worry about how much I enjoy writing tortured!Jim!

ILU, Mel. Write me more, give me more, and more and more and more before I become a Britney Spears song. ;-) I love the subtlety of these chapters, and I really can't wait for this one to hit its crescendo! -CH

Author's Response: Oh CH! Thanks so much for your support here. This is undoubtedly heading toward a pretty messy cresendo (at least that's what my outline tells me. That could change!) As always it's great to hear from you. I know you and fic are having a bumpy time lately, so I'm super appreciative when you chime in with a review.

Your Jim is so real!  You just have to feel him bleeding all over that plane as he tries not to feel anything.  I especially loved how he can't decide if it's brave or throwing in the towel to tell Pam how he feels:

She had stopped him twice just when he had mustered up the courage (or given up the fight…he couldn’t decide which it was) and was about to give voice to what played over on over on a silent loop in his head for years.

Author's Response: Oh, VP. It's so great to hear from you. I actually like the image of Jim bleeding all overh te plane. I always wonder about Casino Night, because sometimes Jim's declaration seems very brave and other times I think it's a completley desparate measure.

I really hurt for Jim in this chapter, GiTC.  You conveyed so well his feelings of despair.  I'm feeling anxious about the Jim/Pam/Roy Tonight Show appearance.  I'll bet that wasn't intentional at all...

Author's Response: of course it wasn't intentional!  Thanks so much for your review and I appreciate what you said about me conveying Jim's feelings of dispair.

Who'd have thought that something as simple as a travel itinerary would be such a compelling read? Well, those of us who are fans of you and your work aren't surprised. I've thought that you were one of those authors who could write a laundry list and we'd find it worth reading, and here you've gone and proved me right! :D

I love Jim's little "Eric Carmen" moment there on the plane, stuck way in the back. You've given us some killer introspection, as well as some heart-stomping angst here. And I love it all.

I think you should know that I cannot get enough of this story, Mel. It's become an addiction for me. And trust me when I say that I do not want to find a cure. :D

Excellent, as always!

Author's Response:

Awww, Mose. You are so sweet. I'm relieved to hear that the itinerary worked because I went back and forth about whether or not that was the kind of document I wanted to include.

Thanks, as always for your support of not only this story, but my fic writing addiction.

Great chapter - the voice of Jim is really great and I love the description of his eyes. Your writing is very vivid.

Thanks so much. I'm of the opinion that one of Krasinski's greatest acting assets (besides natural talent, of course) is the expressive nature of his eyes. I'm glad you think I managed to capture some of that.

Ah, Mel. This story shines like a bright white light in a sea of...off-white lights? You know what I mean.

I believe this is the first story of yours that I've been around for the start of. It's an awesome ride so far, my friend, and I can't wait to see what comes.

Of course, I must point out that the last scene broke my heart a little bit, but in a good way, if that makes sense. You've managed to dissect the phenomenon of reality TV while simultaneously tugging on my heart strings. You've kept Jim and Pam real and easy to relate to, and I appreciate that.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that how completely invasive it must be to have your entire life documented. Thankfully you're here to remind us!!

Author's Response:

Awwww....thanks so much. You know, I was looking at my outline (which is essentially just a bunch of scribbling) and there is a lot of heartbreak potential there. I'm glad you think it's the good kind.

She took a step back from him and looked up into his eyes not expecting what she saw there. The warm green that she was used to had darkened…turned into the color of the sky before a tornado and there was a moistness leaking out of the corners that she was sure wasn’t caused by the snow. What she saw in his gaze scared her more than the threat of inappropriate questions from talk show hosts or the mere idea of what they had in store for February sweeps. She saw danger and warning and she knew that she couldn’t let him speak…she couldn’t let him say what she was sure he was poised to say.  Oh, these poor kids.  So emotional.
