That scene KILLED ME :(

That was the best first date story I've ever read. Better than those post The Job when Pam and Jim are really together. Cause you got Jim's feelings so right. Too bad the show's writers had to go and mess up the continuity on who came to work at DM first!

Oh, and I love the last line!

Wow-I've always wanted more elaboration on this and thought you did just a lovely job. I feel really bad for Jim right about now.

Heartbreaking in the most beautiful way.  I sighed about 3 dozen times reading this.

Way to erase the pain with that last line.

I really like your similes, too. Very nice ;)

Oh, wow, love what you did with that little hint of a story that we saw in the deleted scene. Him falling a third in love with her, half in love with her, then completely in love with her was a lovely progression.

And I really, really love this line:
"It’s like finding out a song you really love is actually a cover and you suddenly feel guilty for ever liking it so much, because it really belongs to someone else and you haven’t even heard the original before, but you’re convinced this version is so much better."

So pretty and heartbreaking!

Wow.  Beautiful - and I agree with the other reviewers: so very Jim. I'd love to read more of you writing him in first person, because this is just heartbreaking.

Just saw the deleted scene last night, then woke up and read this - now I'm going to be haunted by it all morning (day? week?) This is so sad and sweet and so Jim.

Dude... dude... you kill me...

If the deleted scene left me with tears in my eyes this just left me wrecked. Love you for that.

Oh Jim. Oh Jim. The last line just kills me. It seems so fitting that it would take him so long to not notice her engagement ring. This is almost exactly as I pictured it when I watched the deleted scene yesterday. Great job!

This was beautifull and sad and bittersweet all rolled into one. Great job.

wow. every little piece of this just killed me. so so so in line with the feeling of the deleted scene--it felt incredibly real, which just made it hurt more. you used the POV so well because it made the reader feel everything that jim was feeling...the hope & excitement of the beginning and the extreme disappointment & pain of the end.

Wow. So good. Really captures the innocence of Jim's crush when it first started, before all the complications and endless heartbreak.

Love this line:

"She laughs and when I get home tonight, I’ll stand in front of my stereo for five minutes and briefly consider never listening to music again, because this sound right now is everything."

That's just what its like, in that initial stage of falling in love... everything else just pales in comparison, doesn't it?

Very well done! :D

Ooo.  Ouch.  Perfect.

I have been inspired byt that scene myself (how can you not be???) but I've decided that I'm giving them a few other dates that happen later to ease the pain.

Seriously?  Now that I've seen the DVD it is absolutely not possible for me to be more in love with Jim.

Oh, that's so sad. How do these characters keep hurting me so much, over and over? A lovely first-person perspective- because who else can tell us what it was like besides him?
