This was so beautiful and nicely done. Even though it's full smut, it goes beyond it and that's great.

I still just LOVE this piece. You have such incredible control of language and create such wonderfully, richly detailed scenes.

I've read this story numerous times, and every time I fall in love with it all over again. It is so lovely and real. The love, nervousness, and passion you so brilliantly describe is tangible and spot-on. So very hot and so very tender. After reading this, it is hard for me to imagine a different telling of their story. Oh, and how Jim wrestles with wanting to tell her that he loves her.... ohh... it kills me. So amazing.

Author's Response: Thank you, WhatAWaste. You write some of my favorite reviews. I'm glad that I struck the right note and that you find my stuff re-readable.

THAT was probably the most RIGHT feeling Post Date fic I've read. There have been really good ones but they ended right after the date, not having the benefit of knowing about the ring. But you've put it all together and it feels perfect. I really, really enjoyed this. And Jim and Pam's first night together is the best I've read. Plus the line about Pam's panties being soaked INSTANTLY made this a fave...lol... great stuff.

This story is absolutely perfect in every way. You've got Jim's voice DOWN, and everything is just.... yeah, perfect. Gorgeous.

(Gorgeous? Gorgeous.)

I've read this about five times now, but realized I didn't review! What is going on with me? Add me to your fan club, Talkative. I'm loving this universe that you've created for our dear duo. Can't wait to see what's coming up next...*coughs* wedding story.

i too have pondered what that week must been like, but your version was tons better than the one i had sketched out :)  i love all of the details, they just work so well.  the sex was the best.  not just b/c i love smut (although i do) but because you took a regular old first time sort of scene and twisted it around to bring out great new notes (like jim being good in bed but not really caring until it mattered).  i just really LIKED this.  great voice to this piece.

OMG. Seriously. This story could not be better. I smiled through the whole thing, I think, giggling here and there like a crazy person all alone in my living room. I want to tell everyone I know to read this. Can you tell that I loved it? Thank you so much!

Hi...friendly neighborhood stalker here.  Just finished reading this for, like, the 137th time.  First thought, why doesn't this story have a blue ribbon?  Just sayin'...  Second, I haven't been able to get this out of my head:  "And then when I called this morning and - well..." Jim feels certain that Laura knows way too much about him. "So happy. We want to see more of you, Jim."  I can't believe that I'm actually wondering about Pam's day out with her mom and what they talked about and just how much she knows about Pam's new boyfriend and how they've been spending their time.  Yikes.  I AM a stalker...but I assure you that I'm harmless ; )

I wish I had something to say about this, but I really don't want to get the naughty talking Jim out of my head right now. Perfect. I love this.

OK, so I'm back, as I knew I would be.  This story has really kept me company today--a little oasis, if you will, in the chaos of my work day.  I truly love it.  So I'm moved to drop you a line because, in reviewing your profile, I see where your name originated.  So thrilled to read that Talk is your favorite, because it's one of my all-time favorite fics also.  In fact, I found myself thinking of Annabel Winslow and her lovely work as I was reading your fics.  So, delightful news right there--had to share : )  Anyway, just wanted to thank you for making my day.  Hoping to hear from you again soon, Talkative.

Author's Response: Lousy days at work suck. I'm fairly certain that fic was invented to counter the side-effects of lousy days at work. And comparing me to Annabel Winslow will get you everywhere, Nan. Thank you. :)

What a perfect, beautiful story! I just love the way you write JAM - so perfectly flawed and just natural....normal. I love your work so much, looking forward to more of your stories!

Okay, this is going to be a marathon review (possibly in multiple parts), because there was so much to like about this story. Here goes:

  • An artist, too, he's sure to add each time, because he knows that it has more to do with who she is and wants to be. It's part of what he loves about her, the potential of her. -- I love that Jim acknowledges that he loves her not just for who she is, but who she wants to be. Something that Roy never did.

  • he decided that the only way he wasn't going to scare the hell out of both of them was by working through the hit parade of stereotypical dates without really thinking too much about his motives, pretending that Pam was merely a nice girl that he wanted to have dinner with. Three times. In seven days. -- I love that he's overwhelmed by her so quickly and is smart enough (as a human being) to NOT want to freak her out by an immediate "I love you" right out of the gate. He's one smart cookie, that Jim. And yet, he still can't help buying that ring.

  • He stood staring at his bed for a minute, debating how much he would be admitting by changing the sheets. -- The thought process here is spot on. How much does he admit to himself that he sort of has an ulterior motive? I mean, even his bed has a plan (loved that line, too).

  • After a half hour and just short of the point when the tension, years and years worth of it, being refined to a tidy, excruciating point, was finally, actually, seriously going to kill him, she turned her head and pressed a kiss to the pulse point below his jaw. -- I could actually feel his pain here, just sitting, waiting, trying so hard not to be the one to make the move. Even the structure of that sentence built up the tension. And I love that he's playing hard to get -- sort of.

  • but she followed him when he tried to break the kiss -- Can totally visualize this in my head. Once Pam is there, with him, she's not letting him pull away again.

  • you have to say it you have to say it you have to say it -- There is something so wonderfully heartbreaking about this to me. That Jim needs to hear it from her, needs her to be the one to put herself out there. And I love that she does.

  • Jim had never been less sure of what was okay and what wasn't. His barometer was beyond repair, worn down by years of providing subtle readings of the air when she walked into a room. It was all okay to him, anything and everything,--yeah. Just... yeah.

The whole sexy flashback to Katy and Karen? Very hot. The sleight of hand line -- perfect. And then the contrast to his insecurity with Pam: But this - maybe he hadn't done this before. Good god, woman.

  • She swallowed what should have been something loud and open-mouthed. He wanted to hear it. -- This description is so much more sexy than if she had screamed out his name or said something dirty. Just the implication of her pleasure is perfect.

How he whispers "wait, wait, wait"? Oh my.

Love the NuvaRing line, that Jim doesn't understand the bizarre world of girls. ;-)

  • Say that you love me so I can say it back, he thought. "You don't have to say anything." -- I love how you intersperse his thoughts with the dialogue. Wonderful.

The phone conversation with mom? Classic.

And finally, for this half of the review: The "Gorgeous" "You heard me" "Gorgeous" "Don't fish" dialogue was hilarous. It reminded me of 16 Candles (dating myself, there) when Jake Ryan goes to Mollie Ringwald's house and he and the exchange student have the "Married?" "Married!" "Married?" conversation.

Okay. I'm done for now, but I seriously love everything this story chooses to be. Everything.

Author's Response: I think that wendolf should receive some sort of Queen-Hell MTT Reviewer Dundie. Who's with me?! I wonder what it means that about 75% of what you picked out to quote are things that I added within the last 24 hours before I posted yesterday? Maybe it's all downhill from here? I'm very touched/flattered by the attention you've paid to what I've written, wendolf. It's wonderful, really. I'm on my way over to your latest work as soon as I'm done here.

Uh-huh. That was definitely one hell of a week.

This was pure perfection. It just screams Jim and Pam, and you've really captured both characters exceptionally well. I loved all of it: the newness of everything, the nervousness (which was just realistic and perfect at the same time), anticipation, banter and love. And the fact that both of them could say so much without even saying a lot proves your amazing writing abilities. So, yeah. I'm pretty much in love with this fic...bottom line. I hope you continue to write for Jim and Pam, because you really understand them and it shows. Wonderful job!

Author's Response: All blushy over here... thank you, honey.

This is a great story. You could have cut it into smaller chapters and drawn it out more.  But I know lots of people like reading it all at once.  It's a great great fanfic though.  Thanks for writing it.

Well, I can't really add any more superlatives to my review - they've all been stated quite well by others. I'll just say that I have a feeling a blue ribbon will appear beside this story very soon.
