NIIICE!! I love this story. Jim and Pam finding their way to each other is always a treat - I like that Pam came to him. Thanks so much for writing and I eagerly await the next one.

Author's Response: Thanks, MCC. I too like it when Pam comes to it on her own and pursues Jim without him having to lay it on the line first.  I should have the last bits up in the next few days.

I don't know if anyone else said it, but community colleges can usually get you in pretty quick if you have a university degree or partial credits. Plus if the courses weren't full and she was persistent to the administration... plus hey, I'm willing to suspend disbelief for Pam to start living her dreams.

Author's Response: Hi variella - thanks for the kind reviews.  I'm glad you think it's not too unrealistic for Pam to get enrolled so quickly.  Thanks so much fore reading and reviewing - it's greatly appreciated :)

This is really touching... and you wove in canon lines well. SO glad I'm just starting reading now because there is no waiting for me to read the next chapter!

Hey kells! This is such a terrific story. I read it from the beginning again last night and I don't think I've left a review. Shame on me!

I thought this part from the last chapter was really insightful:

“It’s probably a good thing, though.” He looks at her and it’s a question, but she keeps going, “I mean, you left and…things were different. Like – work. Having you there every day helped distract me from what a crappy job it was, but then you were gone and I realized how depressing that place is and it made me want to do more. So I started taking classes and now…” she trails off, leaving him to consider the million possibilities as to how she would have finished that statement.

I love how in this world, they both make decisions for their own sakes; they both seem more mature.

Of course, falling asleep together is so intimate and sweet, but I think what I really like is how Pam is the one taking the initiative and realizing she doesn’t have to let life happen to her. This, I thought, is a great summary of Jim’s patience and devotion:

She feels hazy as she looks up at his face, and he smiles down at her, “Look, take your time. We can figure this out, but it doesn’t have to be now.”

Lovely update :)

Author's Response:

Hey callisto - thank you for the kind review.  I'd like to think that this could be a "healthy" version of Jim and Pam getting together, lol.  I like the idea of Pam coming to it on her own - leaving Roy and realizing what she has going on w/ Jim.  I also like the idea of them not avoiding each other for months on end ;)  Mostly though I wanted them both to be okay alone before they could be okay together, you know? I think that's important.

Thanks for reading and reviewing :)

The look on his face when he sees her makes her a little lightheaded. She doesn’t think anyone has ever looked at her like that; has he always looked at her like this? Like she has the answer to his question on her lips, like he thinks he imagined her here somehow.  Just lovely, kells.  Happy, happy update : )

Author's Response: Aw, thanks so much, NanReg.  I always appreciate your kind reviews :)

Lovely.  Just lovely.  Especially this part: She smiles when he uses the word “we”, for some reason. It’s a simple word but it carries weight with it when he uses it like that – about them, about this.  Guh.

Author's Response: Thank you so much, lisahoo :)

Finally had a chance to catch up on this - and right as I finished, you posted an update. Fate, I tell you!

This was just what I needed - I especially love them simply falling asleep together...in a way, more intimate than sex. And what a lovely and apt way to describe that way Jim looks at her: Like she has the answer to his question on her lips. Oh my.

Looking forward to the final chapters. ;-)

Author's Response: Hi Colette!  Honestly can you imagine falling asleep on the couch with Jim Halpert?  The very thought makes me smile like an idiot.  If I were Pam I would have had a hard time falling asleep, but we'll get to that part soon enough ;-)  Thanks for your kind review!

Well, I was going to wait until you completed this, because well-written WIP's drive me bonkers, but I just couldn't resist.  You're doing an awesome job with this, kells, and I'm really enjoying this AU reconnect between them.  Favoriting this and looking forward to the rest!

Author's Response: YAY EH!!  I hear ya about the WIP's...I love them and hate them, lol.  I promise I won't leaving you hanging too long - in fact I updated tonight, and we're down the home stretch, now!  Thanks for the kind words, my friend - favoriting this?  I love it!  Thanks so much!

Gah! I can't believe I started reading this story today and it ended here. Just my luck. lol So good but I need more. Loving this AU. Well done this is a great fic.

Author's Response: Hehe...sorry to end it in such a cruel way, but luckily there is another chapter posted now :)  Thanks for reading and reviewing, Elle

All around, a top notch chapter!  I like how you build and release the tension several times throughout:

  • Through the evening out - how much will she say, will they kiss goodnight?
  • The stressful wait for her email contact and the surprise that she's already moving on
  • The wait for the phone call that becomes a personal visit

Build, release ... build, release ... Really nicely done.

The internal dialog is really good, too.  I like how Jim keeps reining himself in.

Can't wait to see what Pam has to say!

Author's Response: Thank you so much, Vampiric Blood.  I was sort of going for that feeling - I try to structure the chapters like a bunch of little vignettes that have a beginning, middle, and end.  I'm glad to hear that it works for you, because often times I wondered if that was distracting.  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!

Author's Response: Yeah!  I'm glad you didn't see the visit coming.  I thought everyone would see through the whole "I'll call you tonight" charade, lol.  That Pam is a sneaky one...

ZOMG!  Yay Pam!  I would imagine without the pretty to look at every day, it would become quite apparent what a drag that office is.

Also, I love that Jim watches WSOP.  Who doesn't?

Author's Response: I remember when all of the sudden poker got really really popular a few years back and my husband was always watching World Series of Poker, lol.  I could totally see Jim relaxing and watching that.

Kells, this is great. It's so touching and so spare. And this - "He thinks it’s funny that they handle these things so differently. She makes small changes, one at a time, to get where she’s going, while he jumps forward with both feet without really thinking about how he’s going to land. He discovers that these differences, once frustrating to him, probably balance them out a little" is spot-on. Well-said. And Jim's "No, no. You should have. Really." made my toes curl. So there's that. :) Please keep updating regularly.

Author's Response:

Oh talkative!  I love your writing so it's such a great feeling to get such a kind review from you!  Especially the toe curling :)
