I've read this a few times on the random feature of the site, and I just want to say it's beautiful, both the writing and the sentiments.

This was tricky to figure out. Who was the unexpected man? (Please not Alex) More specific info would make this more readable.

This truly brought tears to my eyes. So sad, but then that glimpse of a happy ending somewhere down the road made me feel much better.  You did an awesome job with this.

Author's Response: Wow. Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I think this is a beautifully written story.  It's always hard for me to read stories where Jim and Pam are separated but if a story is written well (like this one) than I get wrapped up in it. The ending was perfect a great tie in with the beginning.

Author's Response: Thanks for your review, Alamos! I'm not a huge fan of them being apart either, but for some reason this little bit of angst was just sort of begging for me to write it.

While I find it somewhat hard to accept Pam as a barfly, but I really like that last line.

Author's Response: I can totally understand not being able to accept this version of Pam. It's not how I would want to see her either. But I'm glad you stuck with the story anyway. Thanks for the review!

Wow. This ends up so wonderfully hopeful, but on the way there I felt horribly sad for the bleak, empty existence Pam was living (Jim's was just another chapter of the story we've seen him writing all along). Painful, but possible, and I'm glad it didn't go this way. I'm equally glad you've imagined this alternate take and shared it with us. Lovely work.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your review. I'm such a fan of yours that it's always nice to hear that you enjoyed something I wrote. ;) I'm really glad it didn't go this way, too, but for some inexplicable reason I love to torture Jim and especially Pam with unhappy could've beens. Anyway, thanks again!

Brilliant and lyrical, Azlin. And, maybe it's just because I'm such a tactile person, but that last paragraph with all the sights, smells, and flavors really resonated with me. It was the perfect way to cap such an excellent piece. Well done!

Author's Response: Thanks, Mose! I'm glad you liked it. I'm really not sure where these strange angsty moods come from but every once in awhile they hit and something demands to be written from them. I almost didn't include all those details in the last paragraph, so it's nice to hear that they worked for you.

So melancholy but beautiful, Azlin.  I keep revisting this line:  ...and she really does know a few things--things like the difference between permanently breaking up and permanently breaking your own heart...  I love the hopeful ending.  It brings to mind "the more things change, the more they stay the same" (in a good way), and one chance encounter proves that.

Author's Response: I wasn't totally sure how to end this, and I worried that the hopefulness might seem a bit abrupt, but I knew I wanted them to be happy eventually, so this is what came out. I'm glad you liked that line. ;) Thanks for the review!
