Hmmmm. Honestly, I feel like what strikes me most about this fic is the meta aspect of it - Pam's dreams about a better life are gone much as the fans' dreams about a better life for Pam seem much less vivid, and for the same reason - both of them were seeing that better life play out when Pam was very much awake. It's an absolute truth that happy couples whose stories are being fully told inspire less fanfic, and why would they? We don't have to imagine the things we want to see anymore.

A worthwhile button on the end of the peak years of MTT.

Author's Response:

It was a weird time. This huge rush of frantic creativity just...trickled. And I loved them just as much as ever, so what happened? But I think it was Tolstoy who said "Happy families are all alike," and I think there's something to be said for that. They HAD their happily-ever-after. It wasn't even a sad thing, it was a very happy thing, but it wasn't calling to me in the same way.

I'm glad that comes through for you!

"Jim gently touched her shoulder, his books in his hand and his smile alive with his love for her. She had the thought again, as she had so many times in the last year, that he was everything she’d ever wished for."

This was such a beautiful story. And you are so right, Jim definitely shows so much love for her in his smile. Sigh... anyone show so much love in a smile. Great job!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! He does love her, doesn't he? I was worried about making it clear that Jim didn't kill her dreams, though. Heh. Thank you again!

So beautifully realized...poetic!

Author's Response: Thank you very much. I rarely feel like my prose attains anything approaching poetry (aside from brevity), so I am thrilled that you think so. Thanks again!

This is such a beautiful story. The imagery is wonderful and descriptions are great.

Author's Response:

I appreciate you saying so, thank you so very much! I was really inspired by the quotation; it spoke to me and I am glad I could convey some of that feeling.

That was truly the most beautiful piece of writing that I've enjoyed on this site.

"Instead, she’d packed them up and stored them carefully in her heart’s attic and under her soul’s bed while she lived days and months and years with someone who didn’t care about dreams and never suspected the vast storage spaces behind her smile."

The imagery of this will stay with me for a very long time. Amazing work, nqllisi, truly.

Author's Response: I'm really touched and honored that you would say that- thank you so much.

I love so much about the imagery you create here. I'm also totally in love with the way you described Pam's dreams falling along a spectrum of "coincidence" to "creating a chance".  That's so dead on with the way most of us operate when we really, truly want something.  Definitely the growing process that Pam went through during season 3.  Love it.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. Honestly, I based that section on, as bel mentions below, the spectrum of fic I've read and written. So many of us wanted them together so badly that the ways it happened in fic were all over the map. But it did follow Pam's journey, too, and I was struck by that parallel.

Beautiful. Simply beautiful. And not at all what I had pictured for this quote, but still so great.

I'm just kind of lost in this, so, I'm going to go read it again, okay?

Author's Response: Absolutely OK! And I can see that quote being incredibly angsty, but I had already had sort of the vague idea and this meshed so well. Don't be lost too long, we need you!

This really turned out well.  It feels very Grown Up, if you know what I mean.  I love the meta mentions of all the fics you've written and we've both read over the years.  It seems perfectly in character that Pam would come up with those stories, too.

Author's Response: Thank you! Your suggestions made it much better. I hoped that it felt both in-character and meta, because it was both, for me. I'm glad you liked it!

So nice to see something new from you and something so lovely, too.  I love the image of Pam "sitting small and patient" in the library.

Instead, she’d packed them up and stored them carefully in her heart’s attic and under her soul’s bed while she lived days and months and years with someone who didn’t care about dreams and never suspected the vast storage spaces behind her smile.

Such a great sentence and just a kick in the gut to someone who's lived it.

Author's Response: Thank you so much, Sweetpea. Sorry about your gut, but I must admit that I love that the line resonated with you- it felt true when I wrote it, you know? Thank you again for reading and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
