Sorry I'm late getting to this, but I need to chime in (get it?) with everyone else on how fabulous this is and so sad.  Not only was Pam without Jim, she was all alone over Christmas in her little place.

Thank goodness that was the only Christmas where the star would have been crooked.

Holy shit, that was amazing.

Favorite quote!:
"Jim is home, and she knows she loves him now, loves him in a spontaneous parking lot confession kind of way."

Argh, I remember I was almost as disappointed as Pam when it seemed Jim didn't appreciate her clever gift (maybe as a payback for the initial teapot trade?).
Lovely, and bearable now that we can anticipate a lot of happy Halpert Christmases.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for reading jazzfan, and yep, thank goodness there are many happy Christmases in the future :)

Merry Christmas to you, shootingstars. This is a darling vignette - bittersweet and touching. I love how well you captured what Pam could have been thinking and feeling that year. And how surprising that we haven't seen this ground covered more often. Thank you for doing it.

Others have already noted my two favorite lines, but -

Jim is home, and she knows she loves him now, loves him in a spontaneous parking lot confession kind of way, if she was ever brave enough for that.

and

She smiles and wishes on the lopsided plastic star atop her Christmas tree, trying hard not to think about how Jim could have reached up one long arm and straightened it for her.

So very well done.

Author's Response: Wow, thanks so much for such a complimentary review Talkative. I'm a massive fan of your writing so this pretty much made my day :)

Man, S3 is a fic-writers goldmine, isn't it? This captures that particular moment really well - I love the idea of Pam recognizing 'the man she loves' in that BC scene. I think that's partly what gave her the faith to deliver her big BG speech - seeing those subtle glimmers of the guy she used to know. Anyway, lovely, touching and a great final line too. Thanks for this ;-)

Author's Response: Yeah, there really is something about s3 that makes fic writing so irresistible. Thanks so much for this Colette :)

I adore your writing. Why don't you do it more often!?

Author's Response: Geez, peer pressure much, vhari? :p More fic will come soon I promise, and I give you full permission to nag me if it doesn't :)

Really happy to see something new from you, shootingstars!  I know it ended in a positive note, but that hurt...in a good way.  She smiles and wishes on the lopsided plastic star atop her Christmas tree, trying hard not to think about how Jim could have reached up one long arm and straightened it for her.  Guh.  You're so good.

Author's Response: Thanks a lot NanReg, it's good to be back and nice to know people are glad to see me :)

My heart hurts right now, but this is so good. Very in character for Pam and it really took me back to the angst that was S3. I can only imagine what she was going through that year. Thank goodness things turned out for the better. Very nice story!

Author's Response: Thanks so much, and my apologies for hurting your heart! At least everything is shiny and happy now :)

Geez, take me back to S3 and tug at my heart why don't you. This really got to me. So glad that Christmas is different for them now. And Ryan Adams? His songs are like that aren't they? But I digress. This was just lovely and perfect and I'm adding it to my favorites. :) Merry Christmas to you too!

Author's Response: Thanks very much your lovely review! Yup there's something about Ryan Adams songs that just really gets to you, I suspect magic.

This is take-your-breath-away perfect. My goodness. Your use of specific details is just so precise. You capture Pam's sadness without being maudlin, you capture her longing without being melodramatic.

Jim is home, and she knows she loves him now, loves him in a spontaneous parking lot confession kind of way, if she was ever brave enough for that.

That? That is a damn fine line of prose. I'm really smitten with this story and I'm so happy you came back to write it.

Author's Response: Wow, thanks so much nqllisi. Seriously, this is possibly the nicest review I've ever received, and very much appreciated :)
