Oscar came across pretty cool and such a good friend to Pam even though they haven't had much interaction.

Author's Response: I know they haven't really had much interaction but I think they should. And she could definitely use the guidance! Thanks gotkona!

aww, gil and oscar are so cute! i miss oscar, he needs to come back soon.  i like how he convinced her to get creme brulee... now i want some :)

Author's Response: I think Oscar could be helpful! As NEJam said, the gay friend angle could work nicely. Especially since Pam doesn't seem to have female friends. Thanks janelle!

Yay! This is EXACTLY what Pam needs -- a gay best friend!!! Perfect!! What a stroke of genius. I hope Greg Daniels picks up on this idea. It would be fabulous to have Oscar backing Pam up and rooting for her and Jim. Thanks for writing this.

Author's Response: And what's better than one gay friend? Two! I hope Oscar returns from Europe soon because Pam is gonna have to step it up a notch to compete with Karen and those exotic good looks. Thanks NEJam!

Glad you're going public with your stash of these advice columns!

I really like the idea of Oscar giving Pam advice - hadn't thought of it this way, but you're right - he could perhaps relate to Pam needing to put herself out there and follow her heart, regardless of how it looked, etc. Good point. And well told, too!

And another thing - this (and all these chapters) makes me even more acutely aware that there are so many great under-used characters in Scranton (Oscar, Phyllis, Toby, etc.) that it's kind of annoying that so much scant airtime is being spent on the new ones - I like Andy and Karen (as long as she keeps her paws of Jim), but would so much rather see interaction back at the farm. Like this.

Author's Response:

Should I have titled this "Dear Par5"? Or "Just Ask Me, I Think I Know Everything"? This should really be called "I'm addicted to fanfic and even though I'm doing NaNo, I can't stop writing fic for 30 damn days"! It's really my own love letter to each of these other characters who, as you so astutely point out, are wonderful and under-used!

That's one thing I've loved about doing these. On one hand, I like not knowing too much because I could make up all that background on Toby, but on the other hand I've avoided Stanley and Meredith so far because I feel like we don't know much beyond "Stanley likes pretzels" and "Meredith likes booze"! Hopefully after this week, with one big happy family again, we can fit in a little more peripheral character screen time. Thanks as always, my dear, for your insightful review!

I think the world needs more Oscar & Gil fanfic - this was really good, and I could completely hear Oscar's voice.  Like Phyllis, Oscar is one of the saner members of staff, and I could totally see him take Pam under his wing.  I can't wait until he comes back home!

Author's Response: Thanks Moxie! I'm a huge fan of Oscar - which I think has a lot to do with a role he played on Reno911 - and I thought he would have a lot to say about how a relationship would play out in the office. Plus, if Dwight could have a good time hanging out with Oscar and Gil, I figured Pam would have a blast! (Do you think Oscar's roommate knows he's gay?!)

But still, she couldn't summon the nerve to call him. She hadn't earned the right and she thought that he probably hated her anyway. And the mere thought of calling him and hearing hatred in his voice was somehow worse even than never speaking to him again. At least this way there was still hope. Demented and twisted, but hope nonetheless.

Exactly! This is precisely my take on the situation; I'm always surprised that Pam gets so much heat for not calling, when this seems so clear to me (others' MMV, of course). This was cute- love Oscar and Gil.

Author's Response: I know, lis! I'm as guilty as anyone about feeling frustration with Pam's inaction (which is all about the show's writers torturing us) but deep down I understand why she doesn't do it. The reality of knowing there's no chance with him would be terrifying. Thanks for your thoughtful review!

Did I review on this before?  I must have - it was very well done then, and it's absolutely SPOOKY now!  Did you get picked up as a ghostwriter on the show?  You know you can tell me..... ;-)

Author's Response: Not yet! But I've been working on this sort of Vulcan mind meld from a distance. You know, just to get Jim and Pam together! Thanks Moxie ;)

I like Tortured!Toby helping Pam. Not only is it really sweet of him to impart with some of what he's learned, but it puts a nail in the coffin of a potential Toby/Pam relationship.

Author's Response: You're so right about avoiding a Toby/Pam thing! That would be a hard thing to come back from. I think that's why they're only drinking tea... Thanks Luna!

*swoon*
You have just made me fall even more in love with Toby. He's just so....awwww...He's cute, and helpless, and really. I want to pick him up and keep him in my pocket forever. I loved the way you portrayed him. It was so much like him that I could almost hear Toby saying the words. Thank you for that.

Author's Response: Thanks Jaman! If there's anyone on the show who can even come close to being as tragic a figure as Jim, it's Toby. He breaks my heart sometimes and I just wanted him to have a meaningful human interaction with Pam and share some of his life experience. So glad you liked it!

Oh man, Toby is just breaking me heart here.  Really great writing!

Author's Response: He just always seems like he's got a lot of sadness bottled up inside and I wanted to explore that more. Thanks Jonah5!

Aww Toby.  And Yeah Pam.  Get with the program please?  You could almost throw a rock from Scranton and hit Stamford.

OK.  You'd have to have a REALLY great arm - but you know what I mean. LOL!

I loved the tone of this chapter.  Full of sweetness and sadness, just like Toby. :'(

Author's Response:

No kidding! But it "feels far". If it's in the same time zone, it's not even close to being too far to go for Jim! Sweetness and sadness - that's Toby in a nutshell. And I hope they give him a gal soon. Everyone else is paired up! Thanks xoxoxo!

Okay, now this one actually made me tear up. You so captured Toby's sweetness and melancholy and earnestness. Great evocative details too - his apartment, his loneliness for his lost family, his thoughts on Pam. He really is the perfect one to make the point to her...I like the way he comes right out and says he knows it's Jim she needs.

Oh, Toby...maybe I'll marry him (present Mr. Colette notwithstanding.)

Author's Response: I know, I just want to give Toby a big hug and tell him it's all going to be okay. Or at least give his ex a piece of my mind! Knowing that you love Toby so much, it means a lot that you thought I captured him here. After all, you gave me the nudge to put him at the front of the good advice conga line. And I won't tell Mr. Colette about this! Thanks my dear!

I love Sasha and Pam bonding over drawing. I like Toby being so sad, so miserable. Almost makes me wish Pam would go out with him. Toby needs something amazing to happen to him--Katy, maybe? :D  In the meantime, I like him sharing some "wisdom" with Pam. And your last line is very touching. Thanks for this.

Author's Response: Wow, Katy? That's actually an intriguing thought! I may be blanking here but I don't remember Toby having an amazing sexual encounter with a hot girl. That might be just the ticket. Maybe after Roy and Karen get done with their acrobatics, you could take on Toby! Just a thought - in any case, thank you for reading and for your feedback.

The scent of mildew lingered no matter how much Fabreze he sprayed on it and to Toby it smelled like failure.

This was so beautiful. Lyrical and sad and hopeful (but mostly sad). I was touched by this.

Author's Response: Lis! What's up? Thanks for your review! I'm glad you found some beauty in it - I was hoping this chapter wouldn't come across as too depressing, but it does involve two people who are going through a difficult time.

This should really come with a warning, because it is so...heartbreaking and real. Your description of Toby's apartment and his state of mind just makes me want to put my arms around him even more than I already do (in a purely comforting way).  And I could completely see this conversation happening between him and Pam; in fact, if anybody could make Pam see the light, I could envision it being Toby.  Love this - and the last line was just killer as well.

Outstanding!

So, um, could Daryl give some advice? I love Daryl. :o)

Author's Response:

Thanks so much girl7. Toby gets little screen time but he's just so melancholy. He has to have a lot of hurt bottled up inside to make him all the things that he chooses to be... I think Pam and Toby are going through similar pain right now and I wanted to explore that. I'm glad you liked it! And I will absolutely put Darryl on the list. I love him too!

I can't wait till Jim and Dwight are back in the same office, I just know they miss each other!  Cute story.

Author's Response: Thanks kaystar! There's nobody in Stamford who Jim can play with like that, is there? I hope he's back sooner rather than later.

How often do you walk your girlfriend?

I gotta tell you - I loved both of your latest chapters but there is just something about Dwight and Jim that I adore and you captured what I love about them to perfection.  Fantastic!

Author's Response: I know just what you mean! Dwight is so intense, and yet a bit naive, and Jim is just so good at messing with his head and that's just all kinds of fun to watch! A classic example is in "Drug Testing". Dwight is trying to be all self-important and Jim is interrupting him relentlessly. ("It is my duty" "Volunteer duty" etc... we've all memorized it!) Okay, I'm going on and on when all I really want to do is graciously say THANK YOU!

Omigod!!! Dwight, the guy  who can't find a woman's most erogenous zone, is giving advice to JIM! I can actually hear their voices in this one. Tears of laughter are running down my cheeks, and my co-workers think I have lost my mind.

What about water."

"What?"

"Should I water them too? Beets need water, right?"

OMG that is so funny. Jim is so deadpan in this, and we don't even see his face! Well done, well done!

Author's Response: I'm so glad this tickled your funny bone! This came to me so quickly I felt like I was transcribing a conversation so I know exactly what you mean about hearing their voices. Or maybe I was drinking when I wrote this... Thanks for reading!

Good lord, this was hilarious.  You are totally channeling Dwight here - love him comparing women to beets!!!!!  Gah!  I love it!

Author's Response: Everything can be compared to beets, right?! I figured after he relegated Angela to second fiddle status in "The Coup" he would compare women to animals or vegetables. Or perhaps minerals! Thanks for joining me on my wild ride through the Office.

Perfect!  I really wish/hope that he did call Pam after the "hooker" incident.

Author's Response: Oh he did! Because I've decided that until the show does what we want it to, we can make anything happen here. Jam, pudding, and supply closets for all!

Oh my god, that one was plain hilarious. You were truly channeling Dwight. Seriously, this could have been actual dialogue from the show. Fantastic!

BTW, I once did a fic (Random Scenes, 3rd or 4th chptr) where Dwight is also responsible - sort of - for re-uniting Jim and Pam...and it involves a discussion of beets. You might get a kick out of it!

Author's Response:

I think I was channeling Dwight because I don't even remember typing and there was something red on the keyboard when it was over which I thought was blood but in retrospect, must've been beet juice. Hee! Thanks for your continously fabulous reviews! I had so much fun with this one and I'm glad it gave you a giggle too.

And Colette - I think I remember that Random Scenes! Must go read now...
