This is so sweet. I think it's in character from beginning to end. And I like the little details you chose to emphasize. LIke this:
His hand rests upon her small but growing belly. He has been doing this lately, most of the time without realizing it. She feels protected.
And this:
“I just loved you too much to ignore you all day, so I left you completely,” he finishes, delicately tucking a curl behind her ear.

i hope you're not mad, but i found this chapter to be a little confusing, with how jim's thoughts kept going back and forth. i understand how that was essential to the plot, so i don't really understand why i'm confused. i guess i just am.
cute plot idea, though and i loved the ending. don't worry about the confusion, though. it's just me.
