Well, from your note I thought this would be about Jim leaving Pam in the hospital with Karen and then Pam commiting suicide by... drinking paint? Only kidding. Kind of.

But these were both just lovely. I wouldn't call them unhappy or unshiny, really. Just... little moments from life, you know? Is that cheesy? It's just that in real life, people's emotions can be so complicated. Happiness mixed with fear. Bliss with lingering regret. And you write all that very well indeed.

I loved the Jim and Karen interaction. So perfect, so telling of how they both did care but have both moved on. I also loved Pam's perspective. You did a great job with this!

Wow it's nice to have you back!  I'm so glad you decided to tackle the fear that Pam might be feeling...we all remember that Bring Your Daughter to Work Day comment, and sure it probably was due in large part to the wrong fiance, but she also said that kids just never liked HER...so I definitely think she might feel some apprehension. I thought this moment was very real.  There's not a bone in my body that doesn't think she's stoked to be having a baby with Jim...but still - fearful...totally.

Author's Response: perfect review. A++. thanks so much for your thoughts! i totally agree with you...

This is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable post breakup Jim and Karen interactions I've ever read.

Author's Response: wow - thanks!

I love how Karen was just happy for him, they do both need to move on and I honestly think now that she's happy - she would be happy for him!
Awesome!

Author's Response: well, it was such a relief to see 'lecture circuit' and have karen be so COOL. and of course she'd be! she has a husband, a baby, a whole life of amazingness. i wish we could see more of her...

Gah! Both of these were just so wonderful! I've been avoiding baby/pregnancy fic as well; this was a great aside to that. I think people tend to forget that becoming a parent is fucking scary. Thanks for bringing that realism! (And we've missed you and your fic!)

Author's Response: i need to catch up on your writing, dear... hope you've been prolific. rnrnthank you so much for your review :)

Man, I love this fic! Love it! Are you surprised? You shouldn't be. This chap is a nice contrast to Jim's chap.

"Her little one." What is it about those three little words that just turns me to goo? This made me chuckle: "What if she raises a serial killer? Or just as bad, in its own way – what if her kid was some kind of genius? Doogie Howser. She wouldn’t know what to do with a Doogie." Ha! Serial killer v. Doogie Well, if it's any consolation to Pam, Doogie seems to be doing OK these days ; )

Thanks for this, love. ::adds to favorites::

Hi, Emily :) I'm reading this for the second time. I couldn't just leave a review at the end of ch. 2. This was just too good for only one review. THIS Jim-Karen reunion was a pleasure to read. So funny and realistic. There's joy and love and huge boobs and hives :) What more could you want, really?

"He stares straight ahead for a moment. 'I can’t believe my luck. I can’t believe…' He trails off and to her credit she lets him. " Whew. Such emotion. Just perfect. On to Ch. 2 (again).

Author's Response: i've missed you! (seriously.) thanks for the support! the thought of jim/karen moments now just tickles me endlessly...

This is just lovely.  You really captured both Jim and Karen's characters very nicely.

EmilysList, I'm surprised to read that you aren't a parent because you nailed the demons of pregnancy so well.  I liked both of these chapters and they WEREN'T the downers you led me to expect in your story intro!  :-)

Welcome back!

Author's Response: well - okay - maybe they weren't downers... but there weren't any jim/pam gazes at each other during a sonogram. and not that i hate that! (mental note: write a scene at the ob/gyn, involve sonograms.) i was trying to be "real." whatever that is. thanks so much for reading/reviewing!

1) I totally recongized the Friends line. Only show I've watched a billion times besides Office

3) which is really two, but relates to your three.... I always think that also. I think she's happy on the initial part, but I can't help but imagine there's still a ton of nervousness on her part, because she doesn't seem to want it a lot. I'm really hoping they adress it at least SOME in the upcoming season, because I don't want her to do a complete 180 and suddenly love having kids, and heck, even the person who loves kids and has always wanted kids, I can't imagine them not freaking out some. its huge and scary.

Author's Response: i am worried that they will make it really schmaltzy. and i don't believe this is a show that does schmaltz, but, i don't know. of course i teared up! of course it's great! but if it is not real and a little messy, then the show is no longer true to itself. and basically i'll start writing lots of jim/ryan porn or something in reaction.... just kidding. (sort of.) here's hoping that we'll get a complex season. i'm hoping for it.

All I can think is how for the past 6 months, Parker has been like my absolute favorite boys name, and how awesome it is that that's what Karen's sons name is. Wrong thing to focus on, but true.

oh, this is just so awesome! loved the Friends reference, loved the fact that this isn't all happy/shiney/ride off into the sunset ridiculousness, loved that it is so realistic, and LOVED the Jim/Karen interaction.

Author's Response: thank you! don't really have anything else to say - but i'm psyched you enjoyed it.
