I love this story. The tension and emotion are so well written. I just can't wait for updates!

Your writing is so good that I am actually concerned for Jim. I hope he doesn't have meningitis, that is ugly :( But the flu can make your neck pretty darn sore too. Either way I feel sad just thinking about poor sweet Jim being sick.

Author's Response: i think you are the second or third person to mention meningitis... yes, that is ugly. i wonder if that's what jim has? ;) thanks for the review. i hope you enjoy chapter seven, also. :)

I've been a terrible reviewer, I'm sorry but I've been trying so hard to read this and just wait until you'd finished. No such luck obviously because...well, it's you we're talking about. I can't resist your writing! The reason I have been waiting is because like you've said, it's been developing at an incredibly slow pace. And that's great, it adds to the tension but more so gives us more time with Pam to allow us to understand her so much better than if you just focussed on the action (which would be the easy thing to do). Having said that, the suspense is killing me. So painful!

But because you've helped us form this really close bond with Pam, my heart was aching for her and I cringed in embarrassment along with her in this chapter. Everything is still so uncertain, Jim is totally unreadable and the suspense is amazing. Excruciating, but amazing. Seriously can't wait for more.

Author's Response: i love all of your reviews, no matter when they arrive or how often they do! i'm so glad you're enjoying this story, and also that the suspense is translating. it's painful for me just to write it this slow! i usually do oneshots just because i want everything solved right away, you know? chapter seven is up, i hope you like that one, too. :)

"&*%$£$*&%" < that is what I called you when I realised I'd gotten to the end of the chapter. I was like, "she did NOT just finish it like this, did she?"

I must be a sicko, but I LOVE me some sick Jim. There are so many fics out there where Jim takes care of Pam, and - I just love the image of Pam being te one that looks after him.

What I love about your stories is that Ir eally feel the emotions of the characters. The awkwardness of Pam at the start was sooooo uncomfortable, but perfect.

This has to be my favourite chapter. I cannot wait for the next installment.

*adds to favourites*

Author's Response: thanks, sally! you have me blushing over here with all of your reviews. :) i do, too, love sick jim/pam, but when it's sick jim it makes it all the better for me. as long as he turns out okay -- hopefully he will in this story. ;) thanks for the review, and i hope you enjoy the chapter i just posted!

Wow Jim is cranky when he feels sick. Well, he is pretty sick. I just hope it's not contagious! She should try putting a cool rag on his forehead. And here's where I realize I'm talking about fictional characters, turn red, and bow my head in embarrassment. You seriously are an amazing writer. I actually felt Pam's anxiousness, felt bad for her when she was thinking to herself that he was lying. And felt how she just wants to leave but wants to stay at the same time. I seriously can't wait for the rest of this story to unfold!

Author's Response: funny you mention the cool rag because it's coming up in the next chapters. so... we are both guilty of taking care of fictional characters, i suppose. thank you so much for the nice comments, and i'm so glad that you're enjoying this story.

Does Pam want to catch Jim's cooties?  Hmmm...I'd say that's a big fat yes, please!  And it wouldn't be safe at all to drive in the snow, right?  Best to hunker down and play nurse ;)  It's so hard seeing someone you love hurting, and love him she must to find SweatyBedhead!Jim appealing (well...when she's not the cause of the sweat and the bedhead).  "Girls always know these things"--love that because I can envision Jim saying it :)

I'm trying so hard to be patient here, when I really want to read more right now!

Author's Response: ah, i agree so much. i mean, who doesn't want to catch his cooties and "hunker down and play nurse" to a jim halpert? come on now. ;) thanks, nancy!

Thrilled to see an update on this one (so it's high time I reviewed!) :) Love the tension you've got going, and I'm getting increasingly concerned about Jim! I couldn't decide at first if he was just so sick that he actually didn't care if Pam was there (didn't have the energy to cope with seeing her right now - acting as reserved as he did in S3 must take the boy some effort) or if he was feigning nonchalance (as usual) - I think the way he kept hold of her hand is a good indication ;) Can't wait for more!

Author's Response: aw, thanks kaat! and by the way, while reading other reviews, noticed your mention on us sharing the same name (and the best name in the world, obviously). ;) thanks for the review!

He doesn't sound good at all! He sounds so bad, it's almost hard to envision. You've done a marvelous job, of course, just... should he go to the hospital (why am I so worried over a fictional form of a fictional character??)

I'm happy you've updated; I hope the rest is quickly on its way.

I really think Pam should stay. *grin* I mean, the poor boy might get dehydrated. Worse, he could have menningitis. Yes, Pam should stay. (Your description of sick!Jim was awesomely awful. Poor baby.)

Ugh, poor poor Pam, I felt all that uneasiness she was feeling. But she has to stay and make sure Jim gets better. While at work, his 'girlfriend' didnt seem overly concerned, and he clearly is extremely sick and needs someone to look after him.

But, while I, like Pam, noticed that Jim mentioned Karen, it did seem as if she was mentioned in a past tense. 'Karen said', not 'Karen says', like present tense. But that all could be me wishing over-ness on that relationship.

Anyways, thanks so much for the update. Now about another story of yours.... Two??? {I'll take a super short update even, just don't let it be dead, please}

Wow,great story so far. I can not believe you stopped with "Pam?" The suspense is horrible and wonderful at the same time. Keep going!

Really? You make us feel this slow, cautious drive, then the waiting, the anxious walk to his door. I'm ready to turn around right with Pam and walk out his door and you end with "Pam?"

You have me wrapped round your brilliant little finger with this story, Kate. Pretty sure I want to read this again, but I might have the same panic attack that Pam seems like she's having.

Ok. GREAT chap.  The tension was palpable.  My heart ached for Pam and her "sorry bowl of soup."

She practically handed Jim and his dignity to Connecticut and all the girls that come with it.   Ouch.

She's looking down with each step and sees that her pretty, girly pink sweatpants are being dipped into this ugly snow with each step.  Awesome visual and, I would think, to Pam at least, another comparison to Karen, who, no doubt, would have somehow levitated to the door, avoiding the snow ; )

Or even worse. Maybe she's encased in something like an eggshell, and if she ever broke through, wouldn't that make a horrible, horrible mess?  Poor girl, so unsure and always holding herself back, so afraid.

For some reason, part of her brain assumes it would smell like Karen, like maybe she had left her mark here...It doesn't.  As if there were any doubt.  Karen never had a chance to leave her mark.

I absolutely can't wait for more.

Okay, this is just cruel. Next chapter, please. lol My favorite two paragraphs:
Pam feels like Karen didn't seem concerned, and she wonders if Karen had acted that way towards him. Instead of persuading Jim to stay in bed and rest, like Pam had thought previously, maybe Karen had said, Really? Maybe you should just take some Tylenol and see if you feel better.

Karen, Karen, Karen. It‘s difficult to admit to herself, but Pam knows she‘s jealous. It's an ugly thing to be, especially when she has no right to be. She practically handed Jim and his dignity to Connecticut and all the girls that come with it.

The first because, yes, that's exactly what Karen would say, and the last, because, yes, that's exactly what she did.

Waiting, but not patiently.

UGH GOD I have waited for this for SO LONG and the anticipation just keeps building and building!! And you're so good at keeping people on the edge of their seats, with your pretty writing and your will-it-go-well-won't-it-go-well Pam thoughts and ...

And you just HAVE to post soon. Please oh please oh please please please! Don't make a grown girl beg. It's just shameful.
