Ok, I know it's becoming apparent by my reviews that I'm now stalking your backlist of stories, but anyway - this was (no surprises here) beautiful and perfect and amazing. It makes me a little sad that my life will never live up to the perfection of Jim and Pam kissing in the rain against a wall at 4am, but hey, that's what fanfiction's for right? :)

Oh! So lovely! I love the imagery of the drought and the foreshadowing to the rainy proposal. And the fact that you have Jim buying the ring before they've so much as kissed again. Beautiful.

Loves it. I love the parallel with their first kiss and Jim's proposal in the rain. It sets it up for some beautiful imagery. I also love the two subtle lines in the fic about how he'd already purchased the ring - how it makes it "real." And I adore how wonderfully in character they both are.

Kate, this was marvelous on so many levels. I'm sorry I can only give you a "10." It's amazing to me that even after all this time you would be able to put a unique spin on a first-date fic. The idea of Jim buying an egagement ring without having even properly kissed Pam is so romantic. It sits well with me that Jim would feel uncomfortable about jumping into a sexual relationship with Pam after having just been with Karen. Not against it, mind you, but I like the gentlemanly aspect of it. The purity and simplicity seem the perfect antidote to the angst and confusion of the prior year. Pam's confining her fidgeting to below the table is a sweet touch :) I adore the fact that It's a Wonderful Life would be on TV in May and that Pam had to watch it because of her mom...and that Jim, of course, was game to watch it, too.
So much to love about this one. I could have kept on reading it :) Bravo!
