Oh, this is just great! PERFECT characterizations! And, OF COURSE, the dialogue is pitch perfect. And ... bonus points ... now, whenever I see my "Lloyd the Droid" home screen on my phone, I'll think of Jim Halpert!

So different, so realistic. No matter how much you love someone, there are some days when you just want to smack him, when he can't quite do anything right. And then he does, and all that other stuff just fades into the background. Sometimes, all it takes is a pint of ice cream to put everything in perspective.

Poor Pam! Bad day or not it's always great going home to someone like Jim, even if he works the last nerve.

This is awesome! I wondered where Jim was. And strange that you posted, because I just thought about how I haven't written in forever and I should write something. This, though, is spot on and perfect and I can feel Pam's exhaustion and frustration with both their coworkers AND Jim. Great, great job.

Wonderful story, Lovefool!  Such a true-to-life "behind the scenes" glimpse of our favorite little family.  Funny how the small frustrations evaporate for Pam in the face of her husband's steadfast love and thoughtfulness.

Great job!  Favoriting.

Author's Response: EH, I love that description "steadfast love and thoughtfulness"...gorgeous. We should all be as blessed as Miss Pam!

Wow!  Lovefool, this was excellent, although that's no big surprise :)  It felt so real.  You can still love someone yet feel annoyed with them, and the tiniest little thing can turn a situation around for better or for worse.  Jumping on the crowded bandwagon that this should have been part of the ep.

Author's Response: Nan, you're the best.  Thanks so much for the kind words and for wiggling your way onto the wagon. I like you there! ;-)

this is great, lady. An awesome tag to the episode. This could've been the last bit of it, 100%. Plus, it's nice to have a fic where Jim isn't perfect... sniffling while holding onto the baby, but has, like, a four-course meal prepared for Pam and flowers on the table and all of this crazy crap... I shy away from baby/family fics sometimes because they aren't like this. I wish you were around writing more, because I read it all. Awesome job. Come back and play more often!

Author's Response: Thanks Yanana, I just laughed out loud at your description of perfect Jim - four course meal prepared and flowers. lolol.  And this from a guy who has a "famous" grilled cheese, right? Hilarious.  Thanks so much for the kind words, lady. I'll try and play more often. :-)

I loved it! This was so on point! Thanks so much for sharing this! And don't be a stranger... You've been gone away enough Missy! LOL!

Author's Response: Thanks Dedeen! I'll try and make it back more often. :-)

Look at you with the fic, babe! You still know how to make it flow, to nail the characters and their banter so naturally - and all with such unfussy deft touches - that I just get pulled in and enjoy the ride (like a good episode of the show.)

Thoroughly enjoyed Pam's exasperation- sick schmick when you're the mom. Especially loved when she succumbs to Jim's charms: "You're such a bastard." Ha, perfect! And clever title too, missy.

Thanks for this unexpected treat - more fun than a feverish Jim Halpert. Wee!!!

Author's Response: Colette my dear, thank you for the thoughtful review!  I especially enjoy being told I had unfussy deft touches!  Lovely! Thanks for props about the title too! I thought it was pretty clever myself! ;-)

Thank you for coming back to us *squishes you hard* If not so good episodes are what it takes for you to write.... then I hope eason 7 sucks ;) Kidding, but I have missed you.
This was WAY cute. Jim home with "man flu" and spending the day cuddling with Cece on the sofa... only to go out to buy Rocky Road for am, knowing she'd have had a bad day... PERFECT!!!!
Keep going with your writing, please :p

Author's Response: Hannah_Halpert you are too adorable! I see your squish and raise you one!  So glad this rang true for you!

It is SO true -- there are NO sick days for Mommy.  And I felt so much for Pam, she wants so badly to be a good office admin.  And without Jim there to boost her spirits, well, it would suck to be around those pod people.

And would it have KILLED the dang writers to mention that Jim was home with a sick baby -- the flu does go around in January, dammit!!

Thanks for filling in the blanks, LF.

Author's Response: LMAO! Seriously! Could they not have thrown us a bone?! lol. (twss).Man, but seriously that office without Jim is like season 3 all over again! lol. Poor Pam!

Oooh, I hadn't had time to read fic for awhile and I come here tonight and see this! Woot! You've written Pam so organically here - her frustration with a husband with a "man cold" really rang true. So many times Jim Halpert is portrayed as the perfect guy, and I like stories where he is a typical flawed guy (and sometimes kind of a wuss) - and then that one act of thoughtfulness (his strong suit) redeems him. Pam is much tougher than Jim, I think.. I like the "Pam fights failure as the office manager" arc and this story fits perfectly into it. Frankly, I enjoyed this much more than I did the episode. LOL

Author's Response: Man, did you ever just nutshell Jim, or what! So, SO true.  Not perfect - but so thoughtful when he puts his mind to it...and thankfully for Pam - she is often on his mind.  It's interesting because I'm not sure at the beginning of the series I would have agreed that Pam was "tougher", but looking back now honestly there was a toughness even in her "weaknesses". She put up with a lot of crap for a long time (though I guess one could argue it was self-inflicted crap)...anyway - yes, love your comments. Thanks so much for the review!

I haven't been on here in months and I came on just to see if someone wrote a story about the lack of Jim in this episode- and sure enough it's my favorite author! Of course this was wonderful, and so real and believable. I love your writing (I'm sure I've told you this many times, hope I don't sound creepy lol) and I hope you keep writing because I'll keep coming back!
Also, totally agree with you about this episode, not too great. But this story made it better.

Author's Response: Oh that's awesome! So happy I made it better for ya (me too, I think)...and btw, don't EVER fear you are creeping me out. Your words are so kind!

lovefool! where have you been?!!?

so happy to see this pop up and just what i needed on a gray winter day full of homework. such a cute little snippet - of course, when it's written by you, i know it's going to be fabulous! I loved everything from Pam's annoyance to the rocky road ice cream and the mental image of sick jim snuggling with his daughter - gahh. perfection. thank youu!

Author's Response: Aw, Kaat, you're the absolute best!  I feel the same way when I see your byline pop up!  Thanks so much for the wonderful words! Hope to see something from you soon!

Good to see that time hasn't eroded your wonderful characterization and writing skills.  This was just such a perfect little thing. Loved the very realistic and human Pam. It's really true, it's hard for the healthy parent not to resent the sick one at least a tiny bit. Hope all is good with you!  Was great to see your by-line again.

Author's Response: Aw, BL! It's nice to hear from you too! "perfect little thing"...that's the best thing ever. I imagine there would be some resentment - even if just a little, for the spouse who doesn't go to work, too.  I guess it has been a long time.  I was looking to see when was the last time I wrote something and it's been like 8 months.  But longer for YOU I think, Mr! GET ON IT! ;-)

I love your take on this. Poor Pam, I felt so bad for her. No show of enthusiasm in that place will go unpunished, eh? Her irritation is well warranted and I LOVE that you made Jim a total guy in his illness, because let's face it, men ARE babies when they get sick. Reminds me of this quote: "Man endures pain as an undeserved punishment; woman accepts it as a natural heritage."

Anyway, this made me laugh out loud: thinking that right then the one resolution she could get behind was making a glass of wine per night - per hour - until she went to bed - We've all had days like that, eh?

And I like that her real resolution was to go to the gym but OF COURSE she would not give that information to the office.

Good to see you back here, LF. :)

Author's Response: Thanks Callisto. You're so...great. :-)  I love that quote by the way! I've never heard it before.

I love how you wrote Pam's frustration, the fact that she starts the evening thinking she's mad at Jim while she's just really frustrated with how the day went. We all have bad days, and Pam gets Cece, Jim and ice cream at the end of hers. Lucky lady! ;)

Author's Response: Haha, yeah we should all be so lucky to come home to our own personal Jim...not perfect - but thoughtful enough to try and make us feel better. :-)  Thanks so much for the review!
