D'awwww, how cute. Nice to bring back the teapot. It's a great story device.

Author's Response: Thanks! I have a couple more callbacks in mind coming up.

Thanks for keeping this fic going for so long! 😊

Author's Response: I plan on keeping it going for quite a long time! I specialize in pretty much every day fics ;)

Things have to be pretty overwhelming for Jim right about now, huh? It’s good he had some downtime to process everything that’s going on - definitely enjoyed the peek into his brain here.

Author's Response: Thanks! His inner monologue is fun to write.

Nice to see what's going on in his head.

Author's Response: Thanks. Promise we'll get a little more plot next chapter.

Aww, I love that they had to kick Pam out of the room so Jim would sleep. And that last line has me smiling a lot.

Author's Response: Aw, good. I was hoping for those two reactions, so I'm glad they came through :-D

Well. Alright then. But I’ve got my eyes on you for further shenanigans. 😉

For real though, you’re a great storyteller and I’ll love whatever twists and turns this might take. I’m super glad he’s still okay though!

Author's Response: No shenanigans in the story! I like happy JAM, and I plan on providing it ;). Twists and turns will not involve potential death here.

Good to know all's well. Thanks for the quick update.

Author's Response: You're welcome. I'm actually in a hospital watching things not go according to plan right now, so it's nice to write it better in the fic.

*Sigh* Are we going to have one of those,"he was fine when we left and when we come back he's crashed" things? I really hope not. Progress has been good and should keep being good.

Author's Response: Agreed.

Comfect! Look, I watch This is Us... I know exactly what can happen when a loved one steps away from the hospital room for a snack. I sincerely hope that your game plan isn’t THAT evil.

I was feeling so good about this chapter too - Helene pulling the “I’m the mom” card for both of them, and Pam’s thought process... all good things!

Ooh boy. But now I’m not so sure what’s going to happen. I cannot wait to see!

Author's Response: Coley! I'm not that evil. I write this stuff for my own entertainment, and I hate that particular turn, which is why I decided to signal it and then [spoilers for anyone reading this before reading the relevant chapter].

Whew, that Helene sure is something! I’m loving her presence and all the squirm she’s causing but this has been one hell of a day for jim... he must be incredibly overwhelmed. I think he’d appreciated a nice wheelchair ride to that relaxation room to spend some quiet time alone with just pam for a bit, or a nap, lol!

Author's Response: Yeah, I think Jim could use even more downtime than I've given him here. He's gotta be exhausted, poor guy.

Aww! Helene and Jim bonding - I’m here for it. Her answers to his questions were lovely and everything I wanted them to be, especially for the third one. I do love that we got a little glimpse at young Pam from Helene’s perspective and I also love that she’s picking up on the little moments between Pam and Jim.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm not sure how much we'll see Helene again (depends on when I decide this ends) but I'm glad you've enjoyed her.

Ooh I’m excited to really read some Helene moments. I think she’s an underutilized character, too, even in the show. In my head I always picture the original Helene who for whatever reason felt more like Pam’s mom than the Helene we did get to see. I’m imagining that Helene in this, too. I loved that Larissa was the first to introduce herself, and I loved the equally tongue tied reaction of Jim and Pam!

Author's Response: She's TOTALLY underutilized. I can't even find a character tag for her, which is criminal. And I also think of Helene 1.0 (so to speak); partly this is because I sometimes deny the existence of anything after a certain point in the series because I didn't love where they took it, but mostly it's because I just love what we do get to see of her at the start.

Jim’s terror at this whole meeting the mom moment is adorable. I loved the little bit of backstory around his history with previous girlfriends and his recognition that this is end game.

Helene is right - Pam does need some ridiculous in her life and it definitely needs to come from the Halpert siblings. Larissa continues to delight me - you’re definitely writing her well and even in her lightest moments, you can tell how much she loves her brother.

Author's Response: Thanks! Do let me know if Larissa starts to feel like a Mary Sue--I'm channeling a lot of my own snark into her, so I'm a little worried about that. But I'm glad you're enjoying her (and the story).

“I promise, you won’t misinterpret this” had me grinning like a fool. That was a perfect line. Thankfully followed by a sweet kiss. Things are moving along!

And here comes Mama Beesly. I’m excited.

Author's Response: Thanks! I was pretty proud of that one, I'll admit. So much angst to make up for makes for so many good lines to include.

Very nice. It's great fun to see how Jim and Pam are progressing through this. I really enjoyed Pam's internal thoughts through this one. They're such a sweet couple.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm trying to keep up the internal monologues without entirely losing the forward thrust of the plot; this last update has four people's internal monologues to bridge Helene's entrance, but going forward it will probably be more like the one you just commented on here, with one person's at a time. And I'm glad you like my JAM couple.

OMG someone else who also thinks there were two kisses on Casino Night!

Author's Response: Right!?! I like to think of them as different kisses--and there's a venerable history on the archive of people treating them as two, so I decided to lean into it.

That was great fun. Much easier to figure out who's talking to whom and what's going on. Very well done on that regard actually. This one had me smiling quite a bit, but that might also be because I've been up since 3am, flew back two time zones, and was finally able to check into the hotel. Still good fun.

Author's Response: Thanks! I appreciate the feedback--and that you read my story after all that travel!

I love this sisterly bonding. :)

Author's Response: Oh good. I have no sisters nor am I one, so that's good to hear :)

Oh hey, does Jim have arthritis? Just wondering. Of course, I’d be super cranky too if I was made to run on a treadmill the day after waking up. I feel Jim’s pain.

Larissa and Pam continue to be golden. I love their growing ease with each other and how quickly they can gang up on Jim for the greater good - like getting him to cooperate.

Can’t wait for the next one!

Author's Response:

I'm not sure. I'll have to check...

Thanks! I continue to be concerned Larissa is coming off weird, so this is good to hear.

YAS Pam, lay down the law, sister! I loved that. Also, I can’t wait to see Helene meet Jim! We were robbed of that in the show, for sure. I have no doubt you will do it justice!

Author's Response: Thank you for your faith in me! Pam is in a weird place, I think, so I have her sometimes being assertive and sometimes not--this seemed like a good spot for assertive!Pam.

Number one: are you a mind reader? Because Pam and mine’s Waffle House orders are the exact same and I don’t know anybody down here who does liked diced! That made me so excited. And two: I am so excited to meet Pam’s mom, as well as have the two of them spend some time together movie watching! I just enjoy this so much. It’s sweet and believable and i always love the updates. Can’t wait for the next one.

Author's Response: I just went with my gut on Pam's order, so I guess I think you're Pam? High praise if so. And thank you so much for your kind words! Let me know what you think of Helene once she shows up.

Speaking as a paramedic who's wife is a physical therapist it's a tiny stretch for me to think Jim would be up and running so soon. Speaking as a reader, that was fun to see Jim make sure everyone know he most assuredly does not have arthritis as well as Pam's threat. Good fun all around.

Author's Response: Thanks! Does it help if I tell you that I am actually trying to depict bad practices on the part of the physical therapist/hospital here? I definitely know Jim shouldn't be doing that now and probably wouldn't even be really capable of it, but I wanted them to make him try (in order to reveal the broken leg and get the arthritis bit in).

I do like Pam's mom in this chapter. Just kind of steamrolling her way through Pam's objections. Made it fun to read.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm trying to distinguish how the characters talk a little more, and I think Pam's mom knowing how Pam is and just blowing by her objections seems reasonable as a character choice for her.
