Please tell me you got the art cataloging gig idea from Jim's favorite book, Mixed-Up Files b29;a039;b29;a039;

Lovely follow up! This could be its own stand alone story.

AG, this was so good. This was so classic for you. So much sweetness and romance, and oh my God Jim is the perfect boyfriend, and then the hot sex. In the car, in broad daylight, on the side of the road. So good.

I like the way he's gotten to know what she needs for space in the relationship, and I like the way she's letting her guard down and realizing that this is nothing like her relationship with Roy.

I liked how Jim kept up the story of their song even when things were getting...heated.

I have to confess, I don't even know this Taylor Swift song, but I'm putting it on the playlist.

"Her knees fall open again when she hears him using his nickname for her. She’s going to need to work on that."

This was just one of many incredible, legendary lines in this story. Coley...wow. This was angry sex like no other. I like the lead up with Isabel, and you gotta know that Jim went to the cabin thinking...hoping he was getting lucky.

You write them so well. I like that you write them as adults, with flaws and issues and baggage. This was fabulous, and honestly I wouldn't be mad to read a follow up.

*fans self* so hot! I loved that you used the detail of Pam and Roys song, I had so many questions about this for the Office Ladies pod but unfortunately they didn't talk about it at all!

Actually, if you think about it, “Sing” by Travis is kinda their song

“Sometimes though, she still wanted to close herself down for ten minutes. And he let her.” Hello healthy adult relationship. This comparison to Roy is so very simple and so very good.

“she got so fixated on the Are we doing this right? that he had to slow down and remind her that this was the most right thing in his life.” Oh. OH. I’ve never thought of it like this, but it makes all the sense in the world. It fits so well with both their characters.

Oh my god. This list of sounds that become their song. Fuck me. It is the sweetest thing & I will make no apologies for how hard I sob over it.

“Pull over.” Yes. This is the only logical follow through after THAT. Get it Pam.

“Our song. Say more nice things. What else?” It’s fine. I’m fine. I can deal with the way you switch from super sweet to super hot and it just works. Skills.

“I hope that one never makes it to the radio. My mother would be mortified.” And now we’re just dialing the humor up to 11. AG, how are you SO good at this?! It’s amazing.

I mean, I know I’m already just a little bit married, but I would legitimately pay you to write my vows after reading Pam’s lyrics. I’m sure there’s a business venture in that...

The b-side. Dead. So dead.
I love everything about this!

Oh, Allie. This was so romantic and sweet and the way you transitioned them from “here’s our song” to “we’re gonna bone on the side of the road” was just perfection. And Pam’s version was also perfection. I have been so curious how you’d tackle this song and I am just in awe of what you came up with and the sheer genius of your mind. You are amazing.

This is so romantic and sweet that I have a hard time trying to fight back my tears.
I feel like I can't choose proper words to do justice to your story, all of them sound so weak and shallow.
So... thank you.

Nope. Not fair. It's NOT FAIR for someone to be this freaking good at what you do. Of course the smut was hot, but the note. THE NOTE. Ugh, kill me. It was so perfect. The visual of Pam drowning in his hoodie. Perfect. The B-Side. Perfect.

I loved it.

There are so many things to love about this chapter. Pam's gut reaction to not hear that first song. That it seems she still has a few lingering insecurities, but that Jim is right there to help her through them. That she jumps him in the car and gets to know the lyrics of their song, and of course all the sweetness of the next morning and her lyric additions.

It actually reminds me of one of the sweetest things my wife has ever done for me. After I proposed we set a date a little more than a year out. I proposed in January. For Valentines day she gave me a toolbox. I know romantic right? Anyway, inside the toolbox were little slips of paper. On each one was a different thing she loved about me and/or our relationship. She took the time to make it so I pulled one a day until our wedding. I pulled the last slip just before our rehersal dinner. Years later I still have every one of them and will go googly eyed at her when I pull them out and read a few. So beyond the great writing, thanks for bringing up such a great memory.

Uhhhhmmmmm.....

(Yeah that's the sound of a brain breaking)

I guess the only thing to say about this is this is the "just get over yourselves and kiss" scene we always wanted from Jim and Pam during S1 and S2 up through Casino Night but turned up to 11, no not 11. 20? Maybe. I'm honestly not even sure what scale to use.

I mean just all the emotions that are just everywhere. Her dissapointment in the cancelling the wedding, the nights of Jim hating with Isabel, the anger when she lets Jim in, the pure fire of when they throw themselve at each other, and finally the tenderness of their after-care. Holy hell lady, just wow.

Is this my favorite Roy reaction to Pam calling off the wedding ever?! I think so. “that one grin” Dead. In case you were wondering, yes, this passage did make my love for Roy grow three sizes.

“She excels at building Pam up and tearing Jim down because that’s what best friends are supposed to do.” Yes. So much yes. Isabel is bff goals. We all need someone to bitch with.

“a really polite axe murderer” Once again proving that good manners go a long way in any walk of life...
“she simply and effectively closes the door in his face” I —
The fact she even opens the door. My mind? Lost.

“I just wanted you to get all of that out of your system before he got there.” This is a bold move, but it’s also 100% the right move and the love I have for this version of Isabel knows no bounds.

“visions of him sleeping easily each night, eating three meals a day that don’t consist of wine and hot pockets” Ugh. Yes. So much yes. Nothing sucks more than a bad break up when the other person just seems to be fine. It is so rude of Jim to show up all sexy & unaffected. Rude.

“It’s hard to beat a singing telegram.” Give me dry, sarcastic, witty Pam any day of the week!

“she adds fucking amazing kisser to the list of things currently annoying the shit out of her about Jim Halpert” Valid. So totally valid. This is literal perfection.

“And still, she’s more than a little irritated with him because Jesus Christ, maybe if she’d known it could be like this with him she would have called her wedding off a year ago” This is straight fire.

“She wants that warm ache of remembering exactly the way he’s destroying her right now to carry her through the day tomorrow.” The way I love this concept. Anger and passion are two sides of the same coin and you make it work so, so well.

COLEY.
Oh my god. The way the tone shifts to so damn tender, but still ridiculously hot. And somehow, they both still have that confident sort of sass. It’s incredible.
“Absolutely she can.” This is the most perfect ending to anything ever.
But also, I need there to be a part 2...

Coley, the things to you do to me.

I love this Isabel. Bless her and her meddling.

And BOY do I love me some angry Jim and Pam, especially when it ends like THAT.

“Worth it.” Dead. Dead dead dead.

“she has swaying isn’t dancing echoing so loudly in her ears” Oh. Oh. Oh. I see how it is. You’re going to destroy me & I am SO here for it. “start to manifest the touch of his earbud”

“--So predictable comma Beesly--that they could flip this entire situation into a joke” Okay. This is amazing & so very true. I love how revealing this is of how far they’ve fallen from what they once were.

“It’s the first time she’s had him alone in so long that she has to make this count” My heart. I just ache reading this.

“in a way that she hopes will leave a mark so that she has something to remember him by” Wow. This BROKE me.

“So give me a reason not to,” Oh. My. God. “standing on the edge of a cliff, just waiting for him to push her off.” The justice you are doing to this song. I —

“she will be left alone on the pavement again, her heart shattered with the pieces scattered and no one to pick them up” AG, when you do angst you do it so, so well.

Oh hard yes to a coat closet.

“Let Karen Filippelli see it.” This line is straight fire.

“letting him take out his pent up aggressions on her in a coat closet is a lot cheaper than therapy.” Ain’t that the truth.

“the soft pop of their lips parting a soundtrack that she will put on repeat for weeks to come.” This hits SO hard.

“less than gently directs her lips in the dark to the place that Pam marked on his skin” Holy god. This is absolutely gutting. You know that thing I said about you doing angst well? I... just. It’s so raw and real and so utterly heartbreaking.

Damnit, AG. You’re a genius. A second coat closest to rebuild my shattered heart?! Perfect ending is so very perfect.

Okay, this is probably, definitely, absolutely one of my favorite things you've ever written. The way you write family dynamics - here just ABOUT the family dynamics - is clever and sophisticated. Every time you flesh out these characters for us, it is a treat. And I SEE your characterization when I watch the show. Perfection. Every time.

Okay, let's get into this...

I really didn't expect him to show up. And when he did, looking like that...I just...

And the teasing on the swing. I don't know how to gush over that without sounding like a crazy person. But it is such brilliant simplicity and very realistic. You are a genius with these moments.

Oh. My. God. The sex swing joke and I'm DEAD.

The entire scene in the treehouse was *chef's kiss* perfection. Every bit of it. The shameless "just fuck me" and the lovemaking (I cried!) and... oh, and then Pam's conciliation but because, yeah, she's still emotional about her parents. It's all so wonderful.

Seriously, though. How do you do this? How do you make me feel all these things for these fake people? Please don't ever stop, okay?

You know what? It's just not fair that you make me feel so many feelings about some accessories. A pair of shoes and a tie. Shameless.

Erin made everyone dance the Cupid Shuffle. Four times. God, that's perfect.

Hey but also can you write something where Celine Dion officiates their wedding? Cause I feel like only you could do justice to that...

"No kinks...just us." You know what? Who gave you the right?!

"Will you keep the heels on?" Who. Gave. You. The. Right?!

Oh, Coley. You have a real talent for this, you know? You beautifully blend the emotion and the smutiness and the banter and the inside jokes in a way that is so incredibly THEM and true to their character. But they feel even more realistic and accessible when you write them.

I am so lowkey obsessed with how you gave us the girlfriendship angle here. There's so much about the Pam and Isabel dynamic that is just perfection here.

And did I gasp? Yes. I literally gasped.

The reunion is poetic and almost haunting and imagery of the vase?! Fine, fine. Do this to me in the middle of what is supposed to be gratuitous smut. Make me feel all sorts of feelings. It's fine...

"I know," Isabel murmurs. "It's okay. You're okay." >>> This is so perfect.

There's so much here - with the two of them - that is exactly in character and entirely believable if we had been blessed with this particular turn of events.

All the smut is just so good, but (I know I said this already but it MUST be repeated) it can be hard to capture emotional depth and desperation of needy, 'sloppy' sex. You make it look so easy because the writing here is just...flawless.

And here we are back with the vase. OMG. So incredibly good.

Really, this whole fic is a gift to this song and this fandom. We don't deserve you.

Author's Response: DC, I don’t deserve you and this lovely review. Thank you so much. I had so much fun with Isabel here & I’m glad you felt the dynamic. Your thoughts on the smut mean the world to me, mostly because attempting to write it still absolutely terrifies me, so it’s incredibly gratifying to hear that it wasn’t a complete disaster!

Oh my god. AG, you have outside yourself. This is a masterpiece. Every inch of it is absolutely perfect. You are always amazing, always weave words together in ways that blow my mind, always have them say perfect dialogue or have the hottest encounters or break each other’s hearts in beautiful, real ways, but this is like...I don’t even have the words for what it is. It killed me in the BEST ways.

So this fits all the beats of the S3 angst fest that was Jim and Pam at the wedding. But then dialed up to 20 or so. They want to be with each other, they can't be with each other, so they're going to be with each other but not for real so it all comes out as angry and everything is still shattered. Everything about how you wrote them in that hallway and closet was so in keeping with all that.

Thanks for not letting this one end on that note. Very much apprcieated the fast forward to when they're really together to tie this one off.
