Great job with your first fic. That first one always is toughest, take it from another newbie, but once you do it's often 'off to the races', That said, I agree with some of the other reviewers here...we want more.

Enjoyed the angst and the idea Jim 'thinks' he's happy and tried to stay mad and Pam but when there is even the slightest indication she is in danger, that dissipates. I always wondered why Pam wouldn't have warned him knowing how volatile Roy was and seeing how he reacted in Cocktails. Good job bringing that in.

So, if you decide to expand, I'm game. If not, looking forward to another story from you.

Well done on posting your first fic! I thought you really nailed the mood, and Jim's resentment in general. I think that's probably just about right where he's at, at this point. Great story.
(However, I'm a sucker for resolution, so if you ever feel inspired to keep going [hopeful smiley]...)

Jim was such as ass in season 3!
He spent the whole year playing the poor me card while he completely ignored the entire reason
he was he was having problems with Pam was because he started them in the first place.
A part of me wanted Roy to kick his ass. LOL
I loved that Pam started to get mad at him, and
push back at Jim instead of just taking his crap.
Jim claimed to be in love with Pam, but has no problem being with another woman and shoving it Pam’s face. It’s no wonder Pam doubted Jim’s feelings for her.
It also annoyed me when people acted like Karen was so great. I found her to rather pathetic.
Karen spent half the season not seeing what was right in front of her and the other half clinging on to Jim like a teenager with a crush.
The Jim of Season 3 didn’t deserve Pam.

Welcome to MTT!

Angst can sometimes be hard and I feel like you did a really good job! I will admit I’m kind of a sucker for some angry Jim and Pam every now and again and this is no exception.

I see you marked this as complete, but if you decide to expand it into more chapters I am here for that. Haha

First of all welcome to MTT.

Diving right into the angst for your first time out of the gate. Bold move. Even better is that you really seemed to get right to where Jim and Pam are at this point in the show. Jim finally feeling like maybe he can be the kind of boyfriend Karen wants him to be, and Pam being the assertive and honest Fancy New Beesly we all want.

However, they're still not really on the same page. Jim is more annoyed and Pam is still reeling from the events at the bar. However their connection, though at its most streched and frayed right now, is still there. Pam calls and Jim answers. And they're at least mostly honest with the other one, though framed through their hangups.

Really sets the scene later for Pam's bravery in the coal walk and the look of pure shock in Jim's face when she turns her attention on him in her beach side speech.

Great job.

This is an interesting take on a post-Cocktails call - you give them both a chance to get angry at each other without having much desire or time to work through it, which feels realistic to the moment. Founding Jim's anger in the fact that he actually feels like he's successfully moving forward for a change and he's being dragged back against his will is a strong choice, and one that I like a lot - particularly when paired with the somewhat less sympathetic moment of his reflexively lying to Karen about what happened.

Was the idea here to be canon-compliant?
