Thank you!

Okay but seriously: *how* do you write this well this *fast*? Please teach me your ways.

There aren't that many good Roy POV fics around, and he's a hard character for people to want to engage with and write in a humanizing, canon-reflective way, and I'm glad you took that on.

I thought you did really well making him seem like a real guy who Pam might conceivably have a relationship with for 10 years, and like the guy we see on our TV screen. He's an immature buffoon who doesn't understand Pam at all and probably wouldn't have been able to make her happy... but he's definitely a buffoon as opposed to The Worst Boyfriend In Human History, and he clearly would have *liked* to have made her happy. He doesn't see her, he doesn't look that hard, and he didn't learn when she shows who she is, he probably should've known as Laura says that "no woman would ever like that"... but we can also very clearly see where Pam's failure to express herself and self-advocate was a genuine problem in the relationship. This isn't just on Roy, and this comes off a lot like the Pam who then doesn't call Jim for months and stuffs her feelings down during Season 9.

Speaking of Season 9, kudos for writing one of the few takes on Roy that made me feel like the Roy we meet in Roy's Wedding has some relation to the Roy we know in the first three seasons. You can see how this guy might end up making a decent husband to someone else without some huge offscreen character development that's really just "the writers want to force some conflict."

Looking forward to seeing where you go with this next.

Author's Response:

Haha, the plan is for these to be much shorter - lockdown is also probably quite a strong contributing factor here, not gonna lie. Thanks so much though, that's really kind of you to say!

Yeah, I find it hard not to stray into worst boyfriend ever territory with Roy - so I was mainly thinking of him in season 3 when I wrote this, when I know they consciously made more of an effort to make into a credible option for Pam. I agree that I think his heart was (sort of) in the right place though. And post-pepper-spray I thought he handled their final break-up relatively maturely.

Agreed on the rapid character transformation in season 9 though, lol. I'm still not buying the piano playing for a second.

Thanks so much for reviewing!

So this is a really intersting concept. Starting out with Roy seems to make a lot of sense. You really painted him as a guy who just can't quite get the pieces put together. He thinks things are good, but he fails to really look deeper. He also doesn't really try to go any deeper into the relationship. In that regard his relationship with Pam was a good for him to learn all that for his eventual marriage with Laura. However Laura seems to be more assertive and willing to tell him things which leads me into my next point about this chapter.

It seems that Pam has difficulties communicating with everyone. It's been said ad nauseum that in early seasons she has a hard time communicating her real feelings to Jim. Her though she's doing the same thing to Roy. Not telling him what she likes in the bedroom, not telling him how she really felt about the first date, going quiet when things bothered her when they were together. In that regard her relationship with Roy was a good learning experience so she can not do that as much with Jim. Nice way to bring that out too.

Looking forward to seeing where we go from here.

Author's Response:

Thanks very much! And yeah, as awful as Roy was, I don't think that Pam was completely blameless in their relationship: and I think Roy's intentions were generally good, even if he didn't quite get there. I was also intrigued by Laura on the show, and how he made that work.

Thanks so much for reviewing! :)

I love the concept of this. I am so excited to see what you come up with for each chapter. I don't know who all you plan to do, but I really hope Creed gets a chapter hahahah. I love it!!

Author's Response:

Thank you! I'm really glad to hear that - and haha, I am indeed planning to do a Creed chapter...

Thanks for reviewing! :)

Is it okay that I feel bad for Roy now? Just a little? No?
Anyway, you did a great job, and I enjoyed the first chapter very much! And I'm VERY curious about what other men could say about our Pam (especially Toby. He has some observations, doesn't he? Please, say he does!)
Thank you!

Author's Response:

Haha, I was channelling Roy after Pam broke up with him properly for this (I felt kind of bad for him then). Thank you so much! I can confirm that I'm planning to do a Toby chapter too...

Thanks for reviewing!

I got so excited when I saw you had a new fic up so soon and I'm very intrigued by this idea! Not many people write from Roy's perspective but you did an excellent job having Pam's inner feelings shine through, even through his voice. It's always been Halpert. :)

I hope there's more of this because I love this idea!!

Author's Response: Ah, thank you so much! I'm really glad you like the idea - and yep, I've got plans for a few more of The Office men...although I think Roy's persecptive might actually be easier to write from than some of the others, lol. Thanks so much for reviewing!
