Em!! Sorry for the super late review, Im horrible. But this is SO good. First off, it’s the perfect fic for WW’s bday, it is so very reminiscent of TTYD. I hate that Pam is with Roy but also this all works out so perfectly so intertwine canon/TTYD and we all know (hopefully👀) (please) that they wont stay together. I cannot wait for the next chapter!!

First of all, wow!
I haven't watched this film, but I'm intrigued about this AU already! Plus, I like 'Freaks and Geek,' and Jim's relationship with his father reminds me a lot one of my favorite characters from that show has with his... So I root for Jim even more!
And there are so many little cute details here and there (like Tunes - so adorable!), and the big ones (I have a suspicion that Karen's up to something with her new dentist... or, maybe, I'm just overly suspicious).
Anyway, I like it, and I'd like to read more and more of your story! Thank you so much for writing and sharing it with us!

Oooooh fun! Period piece! I feel like there's something very 60ish about Jim and Pam.
Jim translates well here - a good but bored salesman who isn't pursuing his dreams, a neglectful and not especially happy boyfriend. And there are some interesting dynamics here... a friendlier Andy, a more direct rivalry between Dwight and Jim, and a Roy who actually has something to recommend him. Not something you see every day.
Looking forward to seeing where you go with this!

Just thinking about a 60's Jam warms my heart! They have a 60's vibe sometimes, in my opinion, so I feel like it fits!

Andy as Lenny is INSPIRED. I was waiting for him to call Jim "Big Tunes," haha...

I love ‘That Thing You Do’, and I love, love the idea of doing a Jam version of it! This was so great, and so much fun to read - I’m really enjoying the set up with Jim and Karen, and the idea of Andy, Dwight, Ryan and Roy in a band is just amazing. And hilarious. (As is the way you’ve written Dwight and Jim’s relationship, and Dwight’s jab about Jim being the resident beatnik, lol). And then the hints of Jim and Pam’s friendship, and them growing up as neighbours, are so great. I can’t wait to read more!!

Dwight definitely would jab at Jim in this universe too, makes complete sense he’s think Jim’s a “beatnik” with his hairstyle and all!

Ok so I already love this premise. "That Thing You Do," is a great movie. Putting our favorites from The Office in as The Wonders should be a ton of fun.
I'm already liking where you're going with this. Darrel as the jazz pianist Jim plays along with, great move there. Jim and Karen's relationship already rocky? Should be interesting to see where that goes.
The backstory that Jim and Pam used to be best friends in childhood is a great image. Meeting the band there at the diner was really interesting. That's the line-up. Roy, Andy, Ryan, and Dwight? Ok, that should be really interesting. Already getting vibe that Roy doesn't really pay much attention to Pam. That Roy is only really focused on himself and the music. Pam is just there as kind of an afterthought. However it's Pam's idea to ask Jim into the band? Ok, that's kinda fun too.
Really looking forward to seeing how this all pans out. Great job starting out.

It is a *very* interesting line-up isn't it? It took a while to secure this line-up, even 20-30 minutes before posting, I was fixing who would be apart of the band! Trust me, they will serve the purpose for each character!
Darryl was the best fit, in my opinion, for Del Paxton. I couldn't see anybody else playing him!
My whole goal is to honor this amazing movie, yet make it fit for these amazing characters we all know and love in a new way. Thank you for your review! I'm as excited as you are to see what happens next!

This was just delightful - a lovely mélange of a a feel good movie that is a favorite mixed up with all the jammy goodness of the our lovebirds. You did a great job staying true to the spirit of both and I can see a mix of Faye and Pam, and Jim and Guy. (oh and Andy as Lenny is also just perfect fit)
I enjoyed how you incorporated the older brothers into the story and the backstory of Pam and Jim's childhood friendship.
This is going to be a fun one. Looking forward to more.

So, funny story. Lenny was originally going to be portrayed by Kevin, leading up to almost a half an hour before posting this story. I changed it for the "Tunes" nickname, and now I'm so happy I went in that direction! Kevin will find his place here somewhere, only time will tell!
