Wonderful to see this one back! We'll just start out with that one. Feels like thus far we're keeping fairly well in step with the movie. Not a bad thing mind you. However what does strike me as different here is the way Pam and Jim are already playing off each other. That they've known each other their whole lives adds a ton to this version of them. Even though through this chapter they're both with other people, you can already feel the chemistry between them starting to grow.

Loved the scene where Jim picks up the tempo. It's a fun scene in the movie and here it's even better. Had they played it at Roy's written speed it wouldn't have made any sort of waves. Yet here's Jim adding his own flair and not only do they win, but they get another gig. Nice to see a more confident version of Jim show up here rather than just roll over with what Roy has to say.

Also I've had "That Thing You Do" stuck in my head since this updated. This is not a bad thing. Hope to see more soon.

Author's Response:

Well, thank you so much!

Something that always struck me odd from the movie was that there was no explanation as to how Guy knew the members of the band (and Faye). Now granted, Erie may have been a small town where everyone knew each other, but the way that the both of them played off of each other with no explanation? It made me curious…

I love that scene too! Sometimes you just gotta play what you feel!

And I feel you, I’ve had the songs from the movie stuck in my head all weekend.

Thank you for your kind words!

Ooooof. The parallels between the Halpert's business versus Tele-Mart and the Dunder Mifflin v. The Fifth Goliaths battle are a harsh read. Poor Gerald. He's fighting the forces of history.

"“Fractured, Roy. It means broken." Ah, Ryan. It's nice to see you using your powers of douchebaggery for good.

Jim conning them into buying Halpert's products! Maybe he's got a salesman's instincts in him after all.

Yay for Karen's happy ending making the cut! (Although I'm concerned this Dr. Goor isn't really a doctor...)

The Roy-als? Oh, Royce. You suck. Although that's a good pun. Maybe if it were Roy and the Royals? Poor guys. I have a feeling "The Dunders" is going to stick.

I thought the song worked really well for this. Poor Roy. Roll up or get rolled over, pal.

Author's Response:

Why thank you!

I love the comparison you made of Halpert's vs Tele-Mart to Dunder Mifflin vs The Fifth Goliaths. I never thought of that, and now it makes absolute sense!

It *is* nice to see this side of Ryan. The Bass Player in the movie had his moments, but definitely wasn't as much of an ass as Ryan is canonically. Had to bridge that somehow!

He's Jim Halpert, he *has* to have some sales instincts in him, lol!

Idk, Dr. Goor may or may not be a certified dentist... we'll have to see...

I have a sneaky feeling that The Dunders will stick as well...

Thank you! We can all thank TD for the song, lol!

Thank you again for your review, AND for your help with this! <3

So excited to see this back - I've been waiting for it.

So I really dug (I'm using the lingo of the decade) the way you combined Gerald with Michael in how he sees the customer service as the thing that will save the store from the big box competition. Really well done.

I'm also giddy with the way you portray Karen, a little like she was on show with her jealousy and a little like the girlfriend of the movie with her disinterest in what Jim's most exited about, his music.

The Pam/Jim relationship is also delightful and so them.

Love the name and how they got it - again a little bit movie and a little bit the show.

I'm very impressed that you wrote the lyrics - that's whole other level.
Hoping to see a quick update now that they (and you) are rocking.

Great job on this chapter.

Author's Response:

So, I had no intentions to combine Gerald and Michael at first to be honest! It just organically happened that way, and I'm so glad it did!

Thank you, I wanted Karen to have a little more personality than Tina did in the movie. Tina was vain, but with no explanation. Karen needed some explanation.

Well, thank you! I was originally going to keep TTYD as the band's song, but TD is *extremely* good at persuasion (it also pushed me as a writer!). I'm happy you liked the original song!

Thank you so much!!

Hooray for an update to this!

Something I never knew I needed was Roy/ Andy interacting. I love the future potential of this relationship.

“as his guitar finished weeping” I am taking 100% as a shoutout to my love of George Harrison whether you intended it or not.

Pam remembering Jim banging sticks when they were kids is SO ADORABLE. I love the way you set up their history.

I was kind of hoping the dentist would be David Wallace 😆

Your song lyrics are fantastic! Love that you made this your own (and obviously love the Dunders!)

Keep it going! Loving it!

Author's Response:

A Roy and Andy interaction was needed in the show, honestly! I agree, I love the potential of their friendship!

Go ahead and take that as a shout-out! My dad is a HUGE Beatles fan, so I grew up listening to a lot of their music. Plus, with the Wonders essentially being a knock-off Beatles (the movie alludes to it, not me!), I had to make a quick little reference!

Just because Pam started dating Roy, doesn't mean she would up and forget about her friendship with Jim (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)!

Trust me, David Wallace will have an appearance!

Well, thank *you* for the idea of an original song!

“Give it up for….” He pauses, squinting at the card to read it. “The… Dunders!”
Roy, rolling his eyes, gets on the microphone and corrects the man. “That’s the Wonders,” LOVED THIS but in my head they are the Doe-needers 🤣🤣
Looking forward to the next chapter!!

Author's Response:

THE DOE-NEEDERS I'M DEAD!

Thank you so much!

The Dunders (!!!)

It is so fun to picture all my favorite characters in the setting of one of my all time favorite movies (definitely a comfort movie for me too!) I can wait for you to continue this!!

Author's Response:

Why thank you!

I’m so excited to continue this story!! I love writing this, and I love developing this little world we’ve got going here!

Yes, the Dunders! We’re left to assume that either whoever signed them up for the talent show’s handwriting wasn’t legible, OR the announcer just couldn’t read… but will that stick? Who knows!

Thank you!

It’s back!! You’re back!! YAY!!

You know how much I love the dynamic you’ve set up with our favorite characters as musicians, especially with Andy, lol. His lines cracked me up. And ugh, Pam and Jim as childhood friends is just so perfect and sweet. 😭😭

I can’t wait for the Dunders to get rolling (and rocking) now that they’ve had a good performance!

Author's Response:

Ugh, love you to death!

Writing Andy in this fic is my favorite thing in the entire world! His one-liners crack ME up too!

They *did* have a good performance! I'm so excited to get back into this one, I've missed my Scranton boys so much!
