This is fantastic. At first I was like “Why is Michael spelt wrong?” And then: “Why doesn’t Basscop just ditch this and have JAM holed up on this island for 2 weeks of smut?” - because I’d totally read that. :D But of course, a carefully crafted plan that course they need the counselling and basically this story is entirely genius.

Author's Response:

Haha, thanks so much! And lol, do you know I kept re-reading it and thinking I’d misspelt it too. It think it might continue to bug me.  And I mean, Jam holed up on an island for 2 weeks of smut is 100% something I’d read, just saying. If you ever wanted to gift us with more of their honeymoon/any other kind of holiday 😁  Thanks so much for reading, and the review!

Yay! Really looking forward to how this progresses & love it so far. I've seen the movie a few times.

I definitely see Jim & Pam as a couple that are in denial that they've lost their way, believe they're the couple out of the group who doesn't need to work on their relationship.

I can only imagine it must've felt like a slap in the face for Pam to discover Jim is still plugged into his job with the blackberry.

Something that bothered me on the show, was the whole "doing it for the family" excuse, though it may be what Jim believed. If the family is miserable, extra money isn't going to matter unless it helps Jim with alimony and child support. Priorities Jim, priorities.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! And ah excellent - I am having a lot of fun trying to work out how to adapt the crazy characters from the movie into equally crazy Office characters. Yeah, Jim and Pam as the couple in denial felt pretty believable…

And yeah, I thought the abrupt ‘Jim is following his dreams’ to suddenly ‘doing it for the family’ on the show was a bit abrupt too…my justification of it was that maybe after he’d invested all their savings he was desperate for the company to succeed, so it was more about his family - but the show didn’t quite take you on that journey. But lol yes - that is very true on alimony and child support, haha!

Thanks so much for the review :)

Well, you're definitely breaking new AU ground here! Don't think I ever actually saw the movie, but Jim and Pam as a seemingly happy couple that finds they actually need renewal more than at least one of them thought they did works well here. (This moment of Jim's hidden Blackberry interrupting them is painful... as is Pam quite deservedly pulling away from him later.) And the idea of Dwight and Angela in couples therapy is too good to miss... very interested in which doctor ordered this...

This seems like great use of Michael - between the characters and the weird obsessions and the genuine desire to help people, no matter how... fundamentally unhelpful he actually he is (definitely shuddering over the group sing-alongs), he fits well into the AU. And I'm excited to see if this is actually Toby running a singles resort. AND HOLLY! ("No, no, no, he remembers. He can’t. Not allowed. Forbidden. It’s like that Beatles song, you can’t always get your satisfaction." That's a line that would fit in canon with zero problem.)

Also, thank you for finally letting the Misabel ship sail... even if it's going through stormy weather.

"Dwight, which Jim instantly adds a second syllable to" HA.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! Ha, I’m not sure it’s necessarily top of anyone’s watch list (think I was going through a Vince Vaughn thing at the time).  I’m really glad you enjoyed the Michael - I think, like his brief foray into matchmaking on the show, it’s one of those things I could see him really trying at. With the best intentions. And not a 100% success rate. But he does have the odd pearl of wisdom on the show, so…

And lol, yes, I thought Dwangela voluntarily signing up for couples therapy might be a bit of a stretch, but I did want them there.

Haha, I’m glad you like the Misbael! I was actually briefly considering making this a continuation of It Would’ve Been You (but then I decided I couldn’t put that version of Jim and Pam through even more angst). And the loser singles resort owner will be revealed 😏

Thanks so much for your review!

Really interesting premise here. I haven't seen the movie so it'll be fun to read this without any preconcieved ideas.

Excellent set up that's for sure. Letting us know who is who and why they're there. Dwight and Angela and Ryan and Kelly are pretty obvious. Espcially with Ryan already looking at other girls and Kelly's claws coming out.

Mark and Isabel seem like the other obvious couple. At least they can admit they're having issues. Jim and Pam though are stuck behind their wall of denial and non-communication that has always been their biggest foil. Especially with that blackberry in Jim's pocket. Throw it in the sea Jim. Should be really interesting to see how that gets played out.

The final scene there in the office is just classic Micheal. Should be a lot of fun to dive into this one.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! You’re probably not missing out on too much by not watching the movie lol - but I do love the premise, it’s a lot of fun. And I love pretty much all the Office couples (even Kelly and Ryan), so the opportunity of getting them all on an island felt too good to miss…and haha, Pam may or may not have similar thoughts about Jim throwing his blackberry in the sea. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
