Oh, dear, Karen is NOT going to like that one bit. I loooove the voice you've found for Jim's mom. She's wonderful.

I didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I have so far. I'm loving Larissa's meddling; she's giving both Jim and Pam a push in the right direction...towards each other! And I love her "Karen who?" attitude.

Author's Response: It pleases me to hear you say that - I know the subject might not be at first the most interesting, but I'm glad it seems to be working out!

I think you've captured our frustration as an audience when you say the chances of them having another Caino Night parking lot scene seem slim to none. Good for you for making Jim's mom be the catalyst! I like that she can see Pam's sparkle which isn't evident at first. And I really like that Jim doesn't take time to introduce Karen to his mom. Why bother? She'll be gone before the last of the leftovers are eaten from Thanksgiving! Now let's get to that dinner...

Author's Response:

I don't think I ever really contemplated how alike Pam and Jim are until starting writing this.  Since Larissa is so close to her son, I don't think it's unbelievable that she's pick up on the similarities in Pam.  It's like placing a pattern over something and seeing that it fits.    Larissa's "dismissal" of Karen was less rude than just wanting to keep her mission simple - Pam was who she wanted to  concentrate on.  (and yeah, she knew Karen wasn't even on the track, much less in the running!) ;-)

I hope the next chapter is easier to get right than a 25 lb roasted turkey!!!

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when Karen & Jim talked about his Mother's visit!  I love this story so far!

Author's Response: that's the hardest part in writing this so far - I'm really trying to stick to just Larissa's viewpoint.  But I am sure that Karen & Jim conversation was awkward!! :-)

I'm glad to finally meet you? Not so much, actually. This line made me laugh.

You've done such a great job of creating Jim's mom. She's mischievious, of course, like her son. Jim always needs confrontation to get him to admit things (i.e. Conflict Resolution) and the conversation with his mom in her kitchen was the perfect catalyst.

Author's Response:

I'm glad you caught that line - I had forgotten to highlight her internal monologue.  :-)

I'm so glad you like her characterisation.  It's been so much fun to try and guess what she'd be like when we have absolutely nothing to go on!

Another great job :) Loved Angry Jim and Pushy Mom! LOVED how Karen was DENIED in her advances toward Pushy Mom by Angry Jim (and Pushy Mom's disinterest). Can't wait for more of this!

Author's Response: Thanks - I just knew that Karen would feel a need to introduce herself, not aware of the fact that Jim hasn't really said much about her.  Poor Karen, hmm?

I was kind of skeptical about a story from Jim's mom's point of view, but I have to say, I'm loving it!  (like I should be surprised!  I always love your stories...)

Author's Response:

Hey - good to see you here!  I'm glad you took a chance and read this.  It's been fun writing from a different perspective....

I think that probably some people might think that Laryssa was a bit intrusive in the way that she handled the situation, but I can honestly see myself doing something like that if I had the same relationship with one of my kids that she has with Jim.  Based on what you wrote, I doubt she has really ever interfered to this level before, but she knew what she was doing, and seemed to sort of know that he probably wouldn't kill her for this.  It's not out of the realm of possibility for a parent , (imho a mom) to do this.

I like how he ran into her arms in the kitchen.  Very sweet.  I am also intrigued at how Thanksgiving will play out, because she has hit the nail on the head with the similiarities between Jim and Pam.  Can't wait for the update.

Author's Response:

Yeah, Larissa has definitely been a "I trust my kids to work out their issues" kind of mom, being there to listen/advise, etc - but not doing the dirty work.  I think (hope!) I left enough clues that showed she knew what she was doing wasn't something she was entirely comfortable with, but she just couldn't stand to sit back and watch her son be so miserable.  Not when there was something she could do to help.  (At least she thought she had greater chance of helping than hurting!)

Had Larissa not immediately liked Pam (and really, who wouldn't?) I don't think she would have invited her over.  Like she said to Jim in the parking lot, she was amazed how quickly Pam won her over, given that she's on Jim's side!

And while I know I would freak if MYmom ever tried a stunt like that, my mom is also in no way as cool as Jim's mom.  (No offense to my mom.)  We just don't have that kind of relationship.  But like you said - Jim and Larissa are close (but not in a creepy way!), and in that position I would have done the same thing, too.  Parents do all sorts of crazy things for their kids' happiness, don't they?

Onward to Thanksgiving - thanks for the review!!
