Breaks my heart for literally everyone involved. And oddly plausible in those days before they wrote Toby as a gigantic creep.

I thought this story was absolutely fabulous. I like how much it leaves up to the imagination. Very understated but in a good way. I adore Toby and the characterization of him here is spot on. Not a story I have read before, which is definitely hard to do here. Nice job.

You've given us just the right amount of heartache and hope - far more genuine a Pam/Toby than anything else I've ever seen.

You should totally do another chapter for this story. Great job!

"Do you love him?" His voice is low

Oh, God. Jim realizing he's losing Pam again. How AWFUL. But I wondered about her answer:

"I think I could."

Sounds a little like the end of John's reading of Brief Interviews. Coincidence? Am I reading too much into this?

I like that Toby is the first to realize this is not working. He's so sweet. Thank you for writing this.

Author's Response: That wasn't my intention, but it does sound a little bit like that. Thanks for reading! I'm glad you liked it--even if it was a little heavy on the angst.

This is so sad/hopeful and kind of haunting. I think you got Toby just right - he'd know that it wasn't working and, despite his own loneliness would be a mensch and end it. He'd also know who Pam really  wanted, even if it hurt him to say so. You conveyed so much, so succinctly and delicately. Really just lovely.

Author's Response: Aww, thank you so much!

This was very good. I like how you painted the hesitation of a Pam-Toby relationship, and how it ended kinda quietly, probably just the way it began.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for reading and for the comments!

wow.  i'm glad you at least gave him some hope (sasha's teacher) - without that, i may have had to jump through a window.

Aw, Toby. A lot of Pam/Toby fics seem like she's giving up, settling for something safe, but this was so much more hopeful and lovely, more like they were there for each other, helped each other to the next step in their lives. What a wonderful little story.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it! An yeah, even if Pam and Toby did date on the show, I can't see them ending up together--but I don't want her to break his heart either, so I thought this was the best solution.

Wow, that was astonishing. Toby was perfectly in character especially at the end. I would really like for you to continue this story.
