Story Notes:
Inspired by deleted scene from the season 3 episode “Back From Vacation,” as well as the discussion that said scene inspired on a recent episode of “The Office Ladies” podcast.
In the scene, we find out that Michael sends Pam a postcard from every place he goes on vacation, and that she keeps them. I just really loved that and thought it’d be a fun writing exercise to do a postcard for each season and use only 55 words. Hope you guys like it! It was really fun.
Also I just realized that the Google docs word counter counted the formatting for italics as words and that I actually can add more, but it’s out there in the universe now and the rules of publishing a story are unflinchingly rigid, so it’s staying as is!

Michael was on vacation, so it was quiet as she sorted mail.
Bill, junk, postcard, bill.
Postcard?
The front: Atlantic City. “Wish you were here!”
The back:
Pam,
Paid to overnight this. Get Angela to wire paycheck. Out of money! Atlantic City is beautiful.
-Michael
She showed Jim; he laughed. “He couldn’t just call?”
Busch Gardens, Virginia by BigTuna
The week after she sent out invitations, Michael took a vacation. On Friday, the postcard came.
Pamster,
This place is awesome. You should honeymoon here.
-Michael
Honeymoon at Busch Gardens, Virginia? No thanks. “I went on my honeymoon and all I got was this lousy postcard!”
She didn’t (couldn’t) show this one to Jim.
The postcard was waiting when she came back from a lonely Christmas. It had ten dollars worth of stamps and tiny writing, squeezed in the bottom corner.
P-
Hang in there, mon.
-M
She thought about showing Jim, but he seemed distracted. And he’d probably ask questions.
She cried in the bathroom instead.
Hershey, Virginia by BigTuna
That summer was the best summer, because she shared it with him. Shared everything, all of her.
So of course she shared the postcard.
Candied Pams,
Toured Hershey factory today. Touring again tomorrow...and maybe Friday.
Kisses! (Get it?)
-Michael
Jim smirked. “Probably feels like Willy Wonka.”
Pam laughed. “He’s definitely Augustus Gloop.”
She never checked her Pratt mailbox, so she almost missed it.
“Greetings from SCRANTON Pennsylvania,” the front said. It made her smile. And homesick.
Pambulance,
Jim is less fun without you.
Write back with extra instructions for Ronnie, she sucks.
Proud of you anyway, kiddo.
-Michael
She missed the Electric City.
When they got back from Puerto Rico, she had a postcard from Niagara waiting.
Mrs. Halpert,
So so happy for you two crazy kids.
Love you both.
-Your boss and matchmaker, Michael.
She teared up. Could have been the hormones, but probably not.
And then she found out he was dating her mom.
She couldn’t believe she’d almost missed saying goodbye.
But they promised to keep in touch. She had the postcard (the Rockies on the front) to prove it.
Pam,
Made it safely. Miss you guys already, but I’m really happy.
Remember what I said, okay?
Love,
Michael
She was really going to miss him.
A week before Phillip came, she got the postcard. Likely the gaudiest option Las Vegas had to offer: I GOT LUCKY emblazoned on the front.
Pamalama,
Really lucky.
Twins due in May!!! Can’t wait.
Come meet them when they’re here.
-Michael/LittleKidLover/Future DAD!
Her heart overflowed for him. She was so happy.
He had remarkable timing. The last day cameras were there, she got a postcard. Even tiny, the Grand Canyon looked incredible.
Pampelmousse,
Kids hated it—too hot. But you’d love it.
Saw the promos. Can’t decide if I’ll watch.
We had fun, though, right?
Miss you guys.
-M
Yes. They’d had so much fun.
End Notes:
This was super fun. Thank you guys for reading! Love y’all!
