Lyrics from "Doctor Worm" by They Might Be Giants.
I posted these at the boards while the archive was down, so I'm reposting here now that the archive is back up! YAAAYYY!!!

Pam wakes in the early morning hours when the pink of the sky blankets their bedroom in a dim rose tint. She rolls over and slides a leg and arm to Jim's side of the bed, but is met with quickly cooling sheets. Opening her eyes, she listens and can hear their month-old baby's soft voice cooing, and another, much lower voice playing out a quiet melody.

Pam slides out of bed and pulls her fluffy robe off of the bedpost to wrap around herself against the autumn chill. Creeping down the hall towards the baby's room, she can hear Jim's soft singing more clearly.

They call me Doctor Worm...

Their baby coos.

Good morning, how are you? I'm Doctor Worm...

Pam reaches the doorway to see her still-shirtless husband cradling their newborn against him, her little head lolling against his shoulder.

I'm interested in things...

He sings sofly with his cheek against the baby's head, bouncing her up and down a little. She clumsily nuzzles her nose into his shoulder as he continues with the silly song.

I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm, I am an actual worm...

He turns and sees Pam in the doorway, and stops singing. His face turns red and she can see his blush even in the now-orange light of dawn. Smiling, she approaches them, wraps an arm around Jim's waist. She rests her head on his chest opposite their daughter's face, and reaches her other hand up to stroke her downy newborn hair.

"What were you singing?" Pam asks with a sleepy laugh.

Jim chuckles. "They Might Be Giants. I've never played them for you?"

"Nope," she murmurs. "But I think Sam likes it." She nods towards their baby, who's fallen back asleep against Jim's shoulder.

"Mission accomplished," Jim whispers, and they get Sam settled back into her crib.

Joining hands, they make their way down the hall to their bedroom for a couple more hours of sleep. "I'll find the CD later and play the song for you," Jim says, once they're thoroughly wrapped around each other in bed. "The story gets even better-- the worm plays the drums."

Pam laughs and kisses his neck. "Can't wait."
