How can I love when I'm afraid to fall?
But watching you stand alone
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow

He has loved her since the moment he set eyes on her sitting behind that Reception desk on his first day at Dunder Mifflin. Has been her best friend since the first week and would like to hope that she trusts him to be there for her, always.

Thinking back to that first week at this monotonous job; he recalls their lunch date and how he, after feeling the immediate connection only the romance novels on his mom’s bookshelf speak of, for the first time in his life, thought it was a real date. Until he found out that she was engaged. From that moment he felt as though Roy had been standing in the way, blocking any route Jim might try to take to get closer to Pam. He was almost certain she was his soulmate, if you believed in that kind of thing. She had so quickly filled every crevice within him. Any and all information retained from that day forward would link back to the woman who sits 5 feet away from him between the hours of 8 and 5, Monday to Friday. Those feelings had to be pushed to the back of his mind in every interaction they had. He was her best friend. They’d always be best friends.

She needs him to be that friend now; After being the bravest he has ever known her. Having detached herself from everything that had ever weighed her down. All the things that stopped her meeting her full potential. She can finally be who she has always wanted and needs to be. There is no longer a human barricade blocking the way.

Jim hopes beyond hope that one day soon she’ll allow him to be there for her, in a way which exceeds their friendship. That she will at least give him a chance to prove what he’s known forever. He would be there to support her and make her the happiest woman alive if she would just take that chance on him. He would just about worship her, because that’s the least she deserves. He’d never take her for granted like he has seen happen time and time again over the years by the oaf she called a fiancé.

Roy was never deserving of her love, not that Jim thinks he is either, but he knows he would at least try harder.

He won't be there for her the way he wants just yet, he will wait for her say so. He’ll wait because he’s good at waiting.

I have died every day waiting for you
Darling, don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

“Oh my gosh,” she squealed, as she bounced up and down on her tiptoes standing by reception as they were getting their coats on ready to leave for the day “I’m so excited that in less than 3 days my life as Receptionist at Dunder Mifflin will officially be over!”

He can’t help but be filled with pride for her, thinking of everything she has overcome to get to this point. This is the start of her being who she wants to be. Life at a prestigious art institute is sure to do her wonders, he is certain, though he can’t fight the almost overwhelming feeling in his gut at the thought of her leaving him. These thoughts slowly took control and the apprehensive smile that was plastered on his face as he watched her excitement slowly slipped. He hoped he was at least covering his true emotions with a neutral facade.

She watched him intently before breaking the silence smothering them, “You’ll come visit me in New York, right?” Quickly she averted her gaze, looking down, slightly abashed and toying with the nail on her left thumb with her right hand.

He chuckled mirthlessly but gave her a reassuring grin. “Of course. I’ve told you before, you’re stuck with me, Beesly.”

The look that crossed her face could be described as relief but Jim wasn’t sure whether he was just seeing what he wanted to see.

She lunged forward, wrapping her arms around his neck and he took a deep inhale of her sweet feminine scent as his face was involuntarily burrowed into her curls. “Please promise that you’ll come as often as you can?” Pam asked, her voice breaking, “I’m going to miss you so much!” she almost whispered into the crook of his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer, never wanting to let go but knowing that he needed to make the most of the last few days that they were able to spend in each other’s company and cherish being able to see her for most of his waking hours. The hug lasted longer than was necessary but he wasn’t complaining, he needed this before he inevitably lost her to the move. As much as he tried to convince himself otherwise, he was sure that the big city life would soon capture her and he would be long forgotten in no time.

If he wasn’t careful, he knew he was going to tear up. Releasing his hold, he stepped away from her a pace before nodding his head almost imperceptibly and forcing a tight lipped smile. “You will be sick of me, I'll be around so much. Now come on, let's get you home. The sooner we leave, the sooner your last days at this hell hole can start,”

Humor once again won him the winning smile he loved so much and she practically skipped out of the glass doors of Dunder Mifflin, glancing behind her once to make sure he was following.

He could never tell her how much he wanted her to stay when the thought of leaving made her face light up like a child at Christmas.

He once again reminded himself, he loved her, the most important thing to him was that she was happy. Even if it didn’t include him.

Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me

He could barely see through his windshield, the rain had started coming down fast and heavy about three quarters of an hour outside of Scranton. The windshield wipers of his trusty Toyota Corolla, although at full speed, were now fighting a losing battle. Pam had set off for New York a little over 2 hours ago and would nearly be there by now. As he sat alone in his apartment after she’d left, he felt worlds away from her. Try as he might to remind himself not to be selfish, she was headed for the life she had always wanted, he just couldn’t take it anymore. He couldn’t let their relationship endure a two state divide while he sat by and said nothing. He had needed more from their friendship for as long as he had known her but had always sat by, hoping, wishing that things would magically change. Not this time. This time he couldn’t wait around for some kind of divine intervention, he needed to take his own action. If it didn’t work out, then it was no different than it is now. He would go back to Scranton, wounded but alive and live his life without her. If it worked out the way he prayed, he could maybe have everything he had ever prayed and wished for with the woman of his dreams. It was worth the risk.

As he pulled up outside of Pam’s dorms he noticed that each of the buildings were seemingly identical. Knowing that he couldn’t just hazard a guess to which apartment block was Pam’s, he looked around the car for his cellphone so he could call her. She hadn’t been given an apartment number before she left as that was part of the welcoming procedure, she had told him she would text him as soon as she knew the address and had gotten herself settled.

Frantic now, he half climbed on the passenger seat to check whether it had fallen down between the seat and the passenger side door but had no luck. Patting himself down he whispered “dammit,” realising he had left his phone in the jacket of his hoodie which had been forgotten in his haste to leave and was sitting on the arm of the couch, in the apartment he shared with Mark back in Scranton. This made things considerably harder. He wasn’t sure where to start in finding her but would do anything to try. He got out of his car and started towards one of the buildings, hoping that someone may have seen her or if he waited long enough he would see her himself.

As the minutes ticked by and the rain continued to pour down, his frustration mounted. He threw his head back, running his hands back through his hair, loosely slicking it to his head.

“Jim?” He spun quickly towards the direction which came his name and there she was. Standing in the doorway to the vestibule of the building behind him. She was dressed casually, dark blue jeans, olive green tee and a grey zip up hoodie. Her hair tied up in a semi-high pony, seeing her was like a welcomed breath of fresh air.

“Oh, thank God,” he said in a sigh as he almost jogged towards her. “I couldn’t just watch you go,”

“Jim, I haven’t gone anywhere. We agreed, you’d come visit. We’ll still see each other?” She looked confused and she had every right. They had said goodbye 4 hours ago at the end of the work day, stating that they would see each other as soon as she was ready for guests. Tonight would just have her travelling and unpacking the essentials before getting an early night to do most of the lumbering tomorrow.

“I know,” he huffed. Shaking his head and running his hands through his hair once again, pushing the rain away from his face. “Its just,” he looked her directly in her eyes, “I love you, Pam. I’ve loved you for as long as I can remember,” he looked down at his feet then, losing his confidence, and took a deep breath “and I couldn’t have you leave without at least TRYING, you know?”

“What the hell took you so long?”

He suddenly looked up at her, a look of astonishment on his face. “What?” was all he could manage.

“I said, ‘what the hell took you so long’, Halpert?” she smirked at him then, before stepping closer. His mouth had gone dry, he was staring he knew, but couldn’t seem to get his mouth to voice any of his thoughts. “I love you too,” she said smoothly and took the final step to reach him. He isn’t sure who made the first move, but their mouths were on one another, hot and wanting. Time seemed to escape them but before long they were pulling apart.

“That,” Pam said gesturing towards his torso with her right hand making small circles up and down, “is a really good look on you by the way.”

It was only then that Jim remembered he wasn’t wearing a jacket. His white t-shirt, which had got saturated in the rain, had become see-through and clung to his toned stomach. Self-consciously, he pinched at the material, pulling it away from himself but it was no use. As quickly as he pulled away the material sprang back, like the pull of a magnet, to the contours of his body. Pam covered her mouth and giggled quietly.

“Come on,” Pam said, taking Jim’s hand, “let's get you inside to warm up” and she led him towards her apartment building.

Once inside she gestured towards the bathroom, “You can shower in there, let me just get you a towel,” she walked towards a chest of drawers and opened the bottom one, pulling out a large blue towel. “I unpacked this one for my shower in the morning, but I guess ‘needs must’, right?”

Taking it from her, he was still in shock over the events that transpired outside moments ago. “Um, thanks,” he looked down at the towel and then back at her. Trying his luck once more, he closed the distance between them and leaned in for another kiss, which she happily accepted and returned. Her arms wrapped around the back of his neck, cupping the back of his head with both hands. He moved towards her, bringing their bodies flush to one another, holding the small of her back with one hand, the towel still in the other. The kiss quickly became heated once again, causing Jim to pull away. “You know, you’re pretty damp too. How about, um,” he blushed before continuing “do you want to join me in the shower?” Pam bit her lower lip trying to contain her grin, she nodded frantically and reached for his hand, leading him into the bathroom.

Pam closed the shower curtain and turned on the water. While they waited for the water to warm up, they anxiously began to undress one another, sneaking kisses here and there. Before they knew it, both were totally naked. Pam took Jim’s hand and led him into the shower. As she stepped into the stream of water, Jim thought that he hadn’t seen a more beautiful sight. Water rushed over her full breasts, making them glisten. Without much thought, his hands found their prize as he cupped her, running his thumbs to and fro over her hardening nipples. He heard her gasp and smirked as he bent down to take one delicately in his mouth. She grasped onto his hair, pulling his head towards her, hoping for more pressure. He took the hint and sucked, rolling his tongue around the bud while in his mouth. He pulled away with a pop and stood to full height, still smirking as he looked at her. Her cheeks were flushed pink and she was panting ever so slightly, having clearly liked what his mouth can do. Looking down, Pam saw his evident excitement, and smiled slyly back at him. She stood on tiptoes to kiss him at the same time as she reached down and took him firmly in her hand, teasingly giving him three quick pumps. He gasped into her mouth which made her smile. She began to move, rotating them so he was now under the stream from the shower. The water flowed over his toned chest and abs, then lower, onto his hard cock. She once again toyed with him, this time a steady rhythm, watching as his face showed various expressions, learning what he liked.

She dropped to her knees, looking up at him seductively. “Pam, you don’t have to do this…” Jim felt slightly panicked, was this going too fast? He had wanted her like this for so long, was he letting lust get in the way of any logic?

“I know,” she looked confident, he had never seen her like this “I meant what I said about you taking so long. I’ve had a long time to think about doing things like this to you.”

“You’re going to be the death of me, Beesly.” He chuckled which turned into a gasp as she licked up and down his shaft before putting her mouth around the tip, alternating between sucking slightly and flicking her tongue over him, her hand still pumping his shaft steadily. “Holy shit,” he grunted, thrusting towards her, his knees buckling ever so slightly. She cupped his balls with one hand and moved the other further towards the base of his cock as she put as much of it into her mouth as she could. He hit the back of her throat repeatedly and she hummed in delight. She pulled herself away slightly, keeping the steady rhythm going as the warm water continued flowing over his broad shoulders, back and peachy ass.

“Pam. Shit. I’m so close,” he grunted as his arms flew out to find purchase on something in the shower but failing and landing loosely in Pam’s curls.

She picked up her pace and before he knew it, he was spilling himself into her mouth. She moved to stand and he helped her up before holding her closely and resting a tender kiss on her forehead. “You really didn’t have to, but that was incredible.” His large hands cupped the side of her face, gently guiding her to look up at him, his thumb running along her jaw.

She smiled shyly at him “I know, I wanted to. You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that.”

“Me too,” he smiled and kissed her again. “Shall we finish this shower, then how about I take you out for dinner?”

“Yeah, I’d like that,”

He beamed at her, “Then, it’s a date.”

And all along I believed I would find you

Time has brought your heart to me

I have loved you for a thousand years

I'll love you for a thousand more

He opens his eyes and lets out a contented sigh, listening to the rain pounding outside on the back porch. Heavy rain like they’ve had today always reminds him of the beginning of their relationship and brings with it the warm fuzzy feeling of getting to know someone intimately. As he looks over at the woman he now calls his wife, hanging baubles on their Christmas Tree over by the French Doors of their suburban townhouse, he thinks of how lucky he is that he gets to live this life.

The fireplace on the opposite side of the room is emitting a warm ethereal glow over her, which is amplified by the natural glow someone radiates when carrying the precious cargo of the one you love.

Putting his hands on his thighs, he pushes himself up from the couch and walks towards Pam. Standing behind her, he scoops his arms around her waist, his hands falling to rest on her ever growing stomach. He rests his chin on her shoulder and whispers in her ear, “You’re  the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen, do you know that?” She shudders at the closeness before turning in his embrace and pushing his chest playfully.

Planting a soft kiss on his lips, she murmurs back serenely, “I’m the luckiest woman in the world,” Her arms are loose around his neck, barely holding on to each of her own hands, swaying the both of them to a music only their hearts seem to hear.

Their swaying slows, Pam drops her arms, bringing them under his own. Her hands now resting on either side of his back and her head on Jim’s chest, close to his beating heart.

“What’re you thinking?” She whispers, not to break the mood.

“Just about you, us.” Jim replied softly, giving a small kiss to the top of Pam’s head before resting his cheek there.  “I could love you for a thousand years and never get bored of any of this,”

She pulls back to look up at him bashfully, a slight blush colouring her cheeks and he smiles down at her.

Looking into his eyes while playing with the hair on the back of his head, she replies “I could love you for a thousand more.”
