What a lovely, sensitive treatment... The metaphor of losing his dog in a moment of carelessness is really effective.
Author's Response: Thank you so much. I feel for Roy, but he's brought a lot of this on himself by forgetting to cherish her. "Carelessness" is exactly right. Thanks, again.
This picks up pre-merger and is spoiler free, a bit AU as well. I began this back in October (maybe even September), and obviously the show has deviated quite a bit from what I speculated here.
This begins with angst, but there is a great deal of fluff, steam, smut, and silly...for several, several chapters. My idea was to go beyond the happy ending, so to speak.

Wow. Your Michael is exactly right and hilarious! I especially loved his over-explanation of the Dundie award joke, and "con-tentious" made me giggle like an idiot.
Author's Response: I want you to know that I am still stunned by "Vanilla." So to get a compliment from you (particularly one re: characterization) is really, really flattering. :o) Glad you liked it, and thanks for sticking with it!

This is so new and interesting! I hadn't read any chapters before today, and what a treat! A whole different kind of angst for our poor Pam. I'm looking forward to reading the rest.
Author's Response: Oh, a new reader:) Thanks for the review. Hopegully you'll enjoy the resr of the story too:)

This is the cutest thing and so original -- a Sun Chips metaphor!!! Who could have seen that coming?
Okay, this is post Stamford (sort of) and is a little AU, given that we now know Jim and Pam have talked a little. It's a bit angsty, but I swear, I was absolutely seized by the urge to write this! It's based a little on some of the comments I read on Live Journal yesterday re: Jim as "a man with needs." Heh. That makes this sound as if it's going to be a pile of smut, and it's not. It'll just be a slightly different Jim - totally drunk!Jim.
Jonathan makes an appearance as well.
And for those of you who are concerned - remember, my fics always end with a happy Jim/Pam. :o) This one probably won't be as long as the others have been; I'm thinking it'll maybe be a two-parter.

Oh wow. Someone else has already said it, but I love how there is almost no dialogue in this. It's also got a wonderful dreamlike quality. Great work!
Author's Response: Yeah, I don't much like dialogue during hotness, so... very little dialogue here ;) Thanks, Annabel!

Happy Thanksgiving! This is wonderful:
She says: when you were little, you wore a pilgrim’s costume; you were convincing as someone brave. If you think you are, you are. Love doesn’t just disappear.
Author's Response: Thanks, Annabel. I liked the idea of Pam finding the bravery to cross the big divide for what she really wants. Fingers crossed some version of her really taking the risk will occur on the show..and that Jim will understand. (Those two knuckleheads!)
He knows she smiles behind her book when he gets up, stands behind her, puts his hands on her shoulders and tells her that she brings balance to the force.

DinkinFlicka, I am kind of jealous that this isn't MY story. You are doing such a good job with this. Your Ryan has played this game before, but somewhere along the line he's missed the turn-off and left himself wide open to be hurt, which is so heartbreaking to me. Oh, and also there's a character named Jim that seems interesting. ; )
Author's Response: Speaking OF your stories... are you going to update Inventory??? I'm dying over here :) The things you reduce me to!!
Date: April 17, 2007 Title: Chapter 1: Hold on, its gonna be a bumpy one
Happy happy day! The right ending, and a wonderful story. Besides everything else you've done well here, you've written a fitting Pam farewell scene, and let all the other characters have a moment with her.
Date: April 17, 2007 Title: Chapter 12: It's impractical, I'm not going to try to get a house like that.
Oh my goodness! I love this so much. You've drawn the lines very clearly: Jim equals stasis and safety and a step back, Ryan equals freedom and a fresh start. This is amazingly good. On to Chapter 13 (and the end... sniff).
Date: April 03, 2007 Title: Chapter 9: I did not do that. That sounds disgusting.
Holy wow. Nice one, DinkinFlicka! When Pam said, "You and Ryan have adjoining rooms," I gave her an imaginary high-five. So completely wrong, and at the same time kind of the best idea she's ever had. The last few lines took me by surprise. Jim who? Seriously. More immediately, or sooner, if possible.
Author's Response: Heheh, Jim who indeed. Thank you so much Annabel! When will you be gracing me with a new wonderful fic? ;)
Date: April 02, 2007 Title: Chapter 7: I just don't want it to be weird... you know?
Add me to the ranks of those hopelessly addicted to this great story - I read the whole thing over the weekend, and then this chapter the next day. Honestly, at this point I'm hoping it'll go Ryan's way (at least for a night... or two). JealousJim puts my teeth on edge.
Author's Response: Haha, remember all of my ridiculously incoherent reviews of the wonderful Vanilla?? Yeah, I think this story is my outlet for all of my Ryan/Pam wishes. Seriously, your story was so incredibly great, I'm still re-reading it :)
Jim and Pam argue...and then make up.

This is wonderful. The dialogue is so sharp and well-paced, and it fits these characters so perfectly. I loved how cruel you let them both be... we've had tastes of that on the show, but we've never seen what would happen if the retaliations went too far.

Date: April 30, 2007 Title: Chapter 1: Summer Picnic 2005
I love how you're playing with the metaphor of maps, both the restriction and the liberation they represent for Pam (as embodied by Roy and Jim). The image of the space between Pam and Jim as a "living, breathing beast, a monster whose arteries are interstates" is wonderful -- like one of those early maps with 'Here Be Dragons' written over frightening unknown places. It works really, really well. Plus, who doesn't love a picnic? And obviously, I'm looking forward to the upcoming 'M'-ness!
Author's Response: So glad you think the metaphor is working - and yes, those crazy old maps actually did cross my mind, so I'm tickled you mentioned that. And absolutely, nothing like a picnic...two more (kind of...) coming soon. M-ness included ;-) Thanks for the great comments, Annabel!
Date: May 01, 2007 Title: Chapter 3: Summer Picnic 2007
I like this so much! Jim's "distance at close-range" and "relentless indifference" are heartbreaking. And then Pam finds herself, almost literally, as a point on a map, which is lovely.
Author's Response: Thanks Annabel! I love when readers notice those little phrases or thoughts, because that's exactly the kind of thing that's important to me when I'm writing. And yeah, I think Jim's seeming distance/indifference when he's right there in the same room with her is the most painful of all.
Date: May 04, 2007 Title: Chapter 1: Summer Picnic 2005
This might not sound like a compliment (though it totally and completely is) but I am very glad that there are only four chapters of this story. It is perfect and simple and complete. Nicely balanced, too, with two chapters of rising angst and two chapters of climax (wink wink) and resolution. If you added more, you'd be taking something away. I have no idea why this story isn't already on my favorites, but it's going there right now.
Author's Response: Yeah, this was always conceived as a 4 'summer' arc, with the progression you describe (I rarely even write stories that long...I must have too short an attention span!) I'm so pleased that felt right to you (and 'balanced' - I like that.) Going into your favorites is quite a compliment! Thanks so much, Annabel!
Inspired by the finale and the seasons that preceeded it. Enough said.

Oh, I love it! I'm glad it's sort of awkward and easy at the same time between them. I've been in this exact position, and I think you have it nailed: sort of alternating waves of the familiar and the surreal, as they try to sort out how they're going to be around each other. One kiss is easy, it's the second kiss that intimidates the hell out of you. Prolonged invitation, indeed.
Author's Response:
First of all, I'm just beyond flattered that you liked this; I'm such a fan of your work! (I hate it that you removed it, but I'm glad to hear that you're pursuing a professional writing career, because you absolutely should.) And thanks for your comments - that's exactly what I was going for, the vacillation between the familiar and the mind-boggling. I keep thinking that it would have to be a mix of the two for them in the early days.
Thanks again for the review!
Three years have passed since Pam left Scranton for New York, and Jim is still very much on her mind. Will a work-related trip to Rome, Italy be the catalyst that reunites Pam with Jim once and for all?

Oh, I really like this! It's lovely to see them far, far away from Scranton and in a wonderful old city like Rome, which would have so much to offer Pam. I am a little late to the party here (I've just started reading this story today), but I can't wait to read more.
Author's Response:
Ahhh, you're just fashionably late. LOL Thanks so much for the wonderful compliments- and coming from such a talented writer as yourself, it means a whole lot- so thank you!!!
