This just makes me feel for both of them - Karen, desperately trying to be strong and make a no-win situation work for her and being confronted with the fact that it is in fact a no-win situation; and Pam, with her front row seat to someone else living the life she wants and being faced with the horrible prospect of actually helping Karen live it. What a horrifically unhappy time this part of Season 3 was for everyone.

It was miserable! The worst part, I think, was that it took Karen a long time to realize that Jim was using her as a human shield. So sad for everyone.

I like this - it accomplishes its goal of setting out exactly what Jan might find genuinely appealing about Michael. Whatever his considerable faults, you never have to guess what he's thinking, or try to maneuver him into a conversation about kids, or worry that he's going to make you feel sexually unappealing.

This also reminds me of how *bad* I felt for early seasons Jan, and how much potential there was with that character before they decided to have her totally melt down instead.

Disappointed this stops here - I first read it on FFN and I was thrilled to find it was a) posted here and b) extended. Darker than my usual tastes, but the prose here is excellent.

This would fit so neatly in Season 2 canon - Michael is perfectly written, complete with wild overreactions and totally screwing up his attempts to cover his ass, and this is perfect JAM angst.

Much as I love the Jim/Pam scene, what really gets me about this one is the rare Bob Vance/Phyllis fic, combined with the not-quite-as-rare-but-still-not-often-seen in-character Dwangela fluff. Thank you for using your talent to shine a little light on these folks!

Author's Response: I was obsessed with JAM, obviously, but it was always fun to branch out and explore the rest of the fabulous characters. I'm pretty sure this is my only Phyllis/Bob Vance scene, though. I had some fun with Dwangela here and there. Thank you, thank you!

This is hilarious. You've got a spot-on Michael voice, and the Jim-Dwight banter is a lot of fun. Plus Ryan is quite properly obnoxious here. Poor Kelly.

Dwight correctly predicting Angela won't answer an improper question is a great Dwangela moment.

"I had sex with Michael Scott in the bathroom of a Chili’s restaurant. Specific enough for you? Are you happy now? Did you hear that, mom?" I love this. And Angela being turned on by Dwight's suit of armor is... very Angela.
