Pam pointing out that actually Cugino's would have been their first date has been head-canon for me ever since, because it softens the blow of that ending SO MUCH... and explains why there are apparently no repercussions in their relationship from that really sharp moment.

Ooooof. I love Pam clocking Katy's interest in marrying Jim and his unhappiness even amidst all the hubbub and celebration of what turned out to be a big night for her. Come on, Jim, she's giving you an opening.

Also, the cutting of the toast was criminal.

You really covered a lot of ground economically here - Pam being curious and caring about Jim, their inability to stay in conflict with each other/have a serious conversation... but the big takeaway for me with this one is always Pam wishing it was June 11th. Such a stinger for Jim, and such a telling line from Pam.

Oooof. This is adorable and fluffy but simultaneously so telling that Pam uses this opportunity to ask him about Brenda. Oh, Pam. It's right there, you're so close... you can save yourself so much trouble...

This *does* make me feel a lot better about the end of Boys And Girls, yes. Like Jim's not giving up on her.

"That sounds like what you went through with grandpop dying... of course, you were 10." Sharp witted, Pam's Mom #1. (Although I've got to say, reading this knowing she'd eventually dress up as a naughty nurse for Michael is... troubling. :D) She's a good egg here. You know she knows what Pam SHOULD do, but she's prepared to let her get there herself.

Oh, Pam. So subtle. You can practically feel the waves of relief off of her when Jim says that it's not serious. Wonder how long she's been waiting for an excuse to ask.

Vampiric Blood more or less convinced me that it was Groundhog Day. I'm *extremely* grumpy that they declined to pick one on OLP. But given the other movies on her list, I think Dirty Dancing is highly possible. (I feel like When Harry Met Sally would be WAY too on the nose.)

"Not that bad," huh? Wonder why that is.

I always wonder about Halloween - as you note, they really have addressed everything they need to address at the end. It always struck me as a candidate for "events that are important in documentary canon that Jim and Pam don't really remember by the time it comes out." But their banter here is really cute and very them.

I am very much on Team "Jim Responded To The Text With Something Bland", but I like this take on it. Pam really texted without taking time to think, and by the time Jim checked back in she'd overthought herself out of it. *sigh* Long ways to go until the beach, Pam.

"I’m having a really good day, so if you have any hostile thoughts you want to share, maybe you can save it for, like, my fourth date with Jim?”

This line alone was worth the price of entry.

I don't know. I just really liked this - seeing Jim's development and his feelings for Pam through a different set of eyes.

The banter about going to Roy's brother's basement for their second date turning into Pam's line about being able to have fun with Jim in an empty crater on the moon is what locked up the "Favorite First Date Fic" title for this one with four-and-a-half chapters to go.

No, seriously. This one hurts just because it's so powerful. Even knowing that this is not at all what actually happened.

Author's Response: Thank you! I think this one works because it’s so abrupt. And was still possible when it was written, which was scary.

Well, at least in this one Pam gets to chase her dreams, but wow. You write such brutal sad endings for them for a writer whose AUs and fix-its are so charming.

On the other hand, reading this makes me feel a little better about canon? Like, Pam was happier with Jim not necessarily chasing her dreams than she was chasing her dreams without Jim? I guess?

There's really a lot to be mined from taking Meredith seriously - there's tons of tragedy treated like comedy in her canon backstory, and you've done really well exploring it here. And this is a truly original concept in pairing her with Ryan back in the times when we thought Ryan might be kind of normal/possibly compassionate - you can see him at that point still identifying with someone who's been the target, and maybe feeling a little guilty she took the bullet for him. And it actually even still works knowing what we know now - Ryan is at the beginning of the slide Meredith is depressed about being at the end of in a lot of ways.

Not to lose out on Gossip, which is really one of the funnier episodes of the back half of the series, but I would have loved to see some of these reactions on screen. Michael's is perfect - he knows Pam's been mothering him for years.

Also, Season 6 makes the fact that Creed calls her Penny even funnier in retrospect.

Author's Response: Thank you! I loved tackling the conference room/bullpen scenes, where we get just a little slice of each character. Super fun. (I'm having so much fun revisiting all of these with you, thank you!!)
