A year or two before the cameras arrived, Michael takes the staff to the Poconos for a camaraderie event.  Much unresolved sexual tension and angst ensues (uh, between Jim & Pam, not the entire staff).

Once. Holy shit. Ouch. You really DO like to inflict pain on Jim, don't you?! I take back what I said about Pam being an intentional cockteaser. She honestly doesn't know what she's doing. I know that it's not technically canon, but if she really did have her first kiss with Roy, as well as her first everything else, then...that explains a LOT. I really believed that most dangerous game they were playing in the pool room with the basket. It reminded me of some of my own high school experiences.

Author's Response:

I do...it's awful, but I do.  :o)  Yeah, I do think that while Pam has a general idea that he's got feelings for her and is attracted to her, she has absolutely no clue as to how deeply they run.  And in this scenario, I think she's had just enough to drink to start to play with fire a little bit, but she'll find that she's in waaaay over her head, and that it is indeed possible to push Jim Halpert too far.

Yikes, that sounded like one of those NBC promo voiceovers, didn't it?  *Cue Lamar's "Stars"*  LOL

Thanks so much for the review!

That was perfect.  It was exactly what I was envisioning.  I loved how seemlessly you carried their feelings and the emotional echo of that night through to keystone moments in the series.  And it was a beautiful ending.  (Though I do look forward to the AU stuff, I'm satisfied with this.)

Author's Response:

Wow, really?  I'm so glad you saw this as an ending, too, because really...it's what drove me to start writing the thing in the first place (the idea of there being this "lost" night).  I'm glad, too, that you're looking forward to the AU stuff -- can't wait to get it all written and posted!

Thanks so much for the review!

Summary: Every couple have their fights. For Jim and Pam, the point of contention was something most couples never even have to deal with: being caught on camera expressing affection.

Go Jim!  Woohoo!  I really liked that this is their big problem.  It's a unique one, that's for sure.  And Jim's the prude!  Brilliant.  I was terrified that he was going to bring up Pam secretly loving Jim but going back to Roy when she declared that "Letting you know how I feel is more important than whatever anyone else thinks of me."  Phew - dodged a bullet there!  And yay for more IM'ing!  I love how well you incorporate their online chats into your stories.  It's something we don't get from the show but is still very real and in character.

Author's Response:

Yes, I admit I love doing IM's - it's a great way to have them talking, without "talking" if you know what I mean.  And who isn't just a little more brave when they are typing messages than when they are talking face to face?

Thanks for the review, belsum!!

It's so very Jim that he would even notice those little things at all.  He loves her that much.

nqllisi had mentioned to me that she finds the 55 word format to be almost like poetry.  I'd say that's definitely true here.  Each chapter was its own stanza.

(And my preferred seating is also middle-middle.  Heh.)

Author's Response: nqllisi is very wise.  ;-)  I did find that as I wrote this, it started to flow like poetry in my head.  I'm so happy you liked it!!

Phyllis rules!  That was so fun.  I can totally see everything enfolding on the show.  Except, of course, we likely wouldn't get any cameras in the guest room.  Heh.

Author's Response:

hmm...maybe a peek through the blinds?  Or at least a hidden microphone?  We can dream, right??  ;-)

Thanks for the reviews, belsum - you rock!

Oh my dear lord.  Backpack!  Swiper!  I could actually picture the little map that would accompany Dwight's adventure to the annex.  "He did it!"  I had to fake a cough to cover my bark of laughter!

Author's Response: Dwight is really easy to morph into children's characters, it is kind of scary. But I am glad I made you laugh because it was a HOOT writing it. :)

Oh. My. God. I had NO idea you were going to go *there*. Wow. I was really enjoying this, too. I love the idea that they have to pretend to still be living the lives they had when the documentary last aired (on Bravo! Hee!) whenever they make public appearances. I love that Jim and Dwight, as The Boyfriends, were the ones that were most interested in what was going on. Even the "Samantha Something" joke. And then you go and lay THIS on me. Hooboy. Can't wait to see where you take it! ;-)

Author's Response: When I first read your review, I was worried that what you were saying was that you were enjoying UNTIL you discovered the ending.  Hopefully I can keep you entertained for the rest of it!  Thanks for reading!

Oh poor, deluded Jim. Of course she's going to do it! Hee! I really love how you did this chapter. The talking heads are truly fantastic. This is just such a fun story idea; I'm very glad you finally decided to start writing it. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response: Thanks - I originally pictured this as an episode, so it's so much more office/work based than what I usually write.  We'll get a bit inside Jim's mind, so at least that's different from the show.

Sorry if I gave you a heart-attack with the wording of my first comment.  I just meant that I was already loving the story and then you managed to make it even better.  Quite the trick.  Heh.

I really like your use of Jim's apparent prudishness.  We get bits of that in the show and it just fits perfectly here.  Loved the Andy and Dwight exchange.  But I'm most looking forward to the Jan ramifications.  Yeehaw that's got potential!  WHEE!

Author's Response:

thanks - I'm looking forward to Jan's reaction, too!

Oooh ouchies.  Jim's trying so damn hard to do the "honorable" thing that he's not doing the *right* thing.  I did love how Pam convinced Michael and how Meredith put the possibility into Angela's mind.  I hope we get a peak at Dwight and Angela's discussion if she does consider it!

Author's Response:

I do wonder if on some level Dwight wouldn't see anything wrong with Angela doing it.  I'm sure to him she's the most beautiuful one in the office, and I could hear him talking about how Shrute women are not ashamed of their bodies...

Thanks for reading!

Woohoo Pam!  Now she just has to convince Angela.  She's on a roll.  I think she can do it.

I love Jim's guilt as claiming Pam as "his".  So sweet and old-fashioned.  But just as fun was how quickly he got over it with the prospect of lingerie sessions!  HA!

Definitely not disappointed that they're not naked.  I really liked that you brought it back around to the office.  And with such style!  I can totally envision the entire scene in the conference room.  All their reactions and interactions were completely in character.  And the subtle awareness of the cameras was just a fantastic nod to the show itself.  Loved it.  They are themselves, together.

Author's Response: aw thank you so much!!! I'm so glad you liked it and that you weren't disappointed ;-) I was a little nervous posting this one.

Oh. My. God.  It really is fitting, isn't it?  I like this take.  Why should their first date go off without a hitch?  Why should it even happen?  Lord knows nothing has gone as planned for the two of them.  Looking forward to seeing where you take this.

“Wait, actually, I do. That was a lie,”  I agree with Jim.  This is an excellent new tick and completely in character for her.

Hmmm, I can't find the other sentences I wanted to quote because I just keep getting caught up in this chapter and get lost and forget I'm supposed to be looking.  So, um, you know, nice job!  HA!

Author's Response: haha thank you ;-) !! Yay for you liking it!

Author's Response: Belsum, I totally agree! I think Jim should give Kevin many, many more of these special assignments. The one I would like to see right now is "Who should Angela date in the office" - comparing and contrasting all the eligible men. You know that Kevin would jump on that project like a dog on a junebug!

You know, I think this is even better upon reread.  The conversational tone is so pleasant; I really like the voice you've given Grace.  It's so much fun to see these people through her eyes.  The little details describing her impression of them all are actually quite profound.  I'm really excited for "the interesting part".  Hee!

YAY!  Oh it really turned out perfectly.  I adore the last line.  Her excitement was palpable.  I love that she even mentioned she was so caught up in Jim that she totally forgot about Jan and Michael.  Sounds familiar...

Author's Response:

Aw, thanks! Yeah, I sort of just completely abandoned the Jan/Michael storyline and realized that it felt a little bit abrupt, so I just had her mention it and then I was in the clear! Hee. I was actually unsure about the last line, so I'm very glad you like it- that makes me much more confident about it!  Thanks again, as always, for your help!

Oh man oh man.  I just skimmed back through it to find which elements were the ones I wanted to mention but then I came up against that "whole thing" problem.  Hee!  The intensity you injected into her story-telling during all the madness was really nice and came through quite well.  I liked the "I can call my family nuts but outsiders can't" protectiveness stance of her feelings for Jan and about Karen's reaction.  I second (or third?) the request of your other commentors to bring this into spec future and get Grace to visit Scranton.  Please?  Pretty please?  I'll help you brainstorm!

Author's Response:

I think you'll like my idea for how to wrap this up. Thank you so much for the specific comments- I couldn't help but let Grace mirror a little of my own Karen antagonism, but I don't think she was too mean about it. Thank you again!!
