Author of the Month March 2020

I've been writing fanfiction for awhile now. Just recently discovered The Office and figured I'd try my hand at that as well.

At first I thought of having all my stories in the same universe, but then I had some AU ideas. So any stories that occur within a common universe will be in a given series.

Still all very cute and sweet. I like how you're setting up this romance. It doesn't feel forced, just Jim and Pam (in college granted) being themselves.

The thing I think this story could use would be some tension or conflict. Now those words can mean a lot of different things. Be it either Roy or Karen trying to get back in the picture, family drama, Prof. Michael Scott being insane, medical emergency, the list can go on. Not that I want this version of Jim and Pam to break up, because they're very great together. Something that would cause them to come together even closer through shared experience.

Author's Response:

I think so too, I’m just deciding how to do it right without derailing their journey TOO much. I’m thinking either Karen or Katy would be a good speed bump to throw at them (& I actually kinda like Karen, despite how I portrayed her at the party, so I’m leaning towards Katy.) my next chapter is still pretty damned fluffy, but with a tiny twist of angst/misunderstanding that might help with that balance.

Thanj you for the feedback, as always :)

Lots of fun seeing everyone from the office bounce off each other in this context. Jim and Pam are still being very adorable.

Short and sweet. Still a very fun tale you've got going here.

Author's Response: Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying it, the feedback is invaluable! :)

Still all very sweet. I was grinning the whole time I was reading it. Can't wait to see where this is going.

Cute start. Looking forward to seeing how this one will turn out. Lots of good description that sets the scene out well too.

Very sweet. I like how their relationship is just developing naturally. Jim and Dwight as roommates. Oh sweet merciful crap the pranks that Jim and Pam could come up with! That could be a fun angle to explore.

Oh next chapter should be good fun. Very nice to see their relationship progress like this. They're great together and the scene where they figured out they're BF/GF was very cute. Very Jim and Pam to only realize something rather than actually talk it out, but this time in a good way.

Summary:

TW: there is heavily implied domestic violence in this story.

I do not know I how to summarize this really.

The writing style is a little bit different, but I felt it was the best way to convey what I was imagining. It switches POV quite often, so watch out for that. I also tried to avoid names until a particular moment, so that's part of it too.

It's some post casino night angst, canon divergence, with a little bit of a cheesy ending.

Short but that's not necessarily a bad thing. As Shakespeare said, "brevity is the soul of wit." While you don't spell things out, there's enough said that one can fill in the gaps. Very nice for a very quick tale.

Author's Response: Thank you <3

So far not bad. Not sure where this is going other than maybe some of the stressed-married life we saw in season 9. Good writing style though.

Author's Response: Thank you! I was hoping to pique interest, so I’m glad i at least did that. :)

I like how this chapter is set up. Jim knows this job took a toll on their marriage once and he can tell it's starting to go down that path again. Good on him for being aware enough this time to realize that. Also great to see that Jim and Pam can still connect quickly like this. Show's they do have a strong relationship.

Author's Response: Thank you for the thoughtful response! I hope you're liking what's up so far. Hopefully I'll have more out soon!

Welcome back! This is all very cute and fluffy. Kind had an inkling of what's happening there. Beautiful spot for the realization for that to set in. Just a warm feeling of love in this chapter. I like it a lot.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I am really enjoying getting back into it. I appreciate the kind words!

I like this first chapter. Yes, it's angsty and a little depressing, but it's also right where Pam is at this point. I also like how you've Michael in this chapter. Yes, Michael is boorish and a man-child, but every so often he surprises everyone by actually being a nice guy and you captured that well in this chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks, W4! Glad you appreciated that rare moment in Michael. And your assessment of him as a boorish, man-child most of the time is so accurate.

Again, a good insight to how Pam is holding up. Setting the ground word for the Fancy New Beesly we'll come to know and love. Lots of good description here. Very easy to see Pam's apartment in the mind's eye.

Author's Response: Awwww! W4, thanks again! I was hoping to paint that picture without remarking on every single boring detail. Thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy.

I really liked this chapter. You really show Pam starting to get a handle on herself here. The change into the more confident Pam is great to see here. I love all the introspection Pam does. Yes there were good moments with Roy and those deserve to be remembered in some way. There were a lot of great moments with Jim and I liked how you had her keeping those in her mind with the cigar box display stand for the teapot.

It can get hard to show the mental progress someone makes, especially after the turmoil of Casino night but like I said you did it well. Great job, looking forward to more.

Author's Response: Aw, thanks, Warrior! Clearly we know Pam is someone who needs time, so this slow process of growth makes sense to me for her. I appreciate how you notice her need to keep those memories close and accessible (but still maybe a little out of sight) about Jim. Shoo, I'm glad you understand where I was coming from with Roy, too. Ten years is a lot to walk away from, right? There have to be a few things she will miss or reminisce about, even if they aren't enough to make her stay. Thanks so much for being so supportive with your comments.

Things that Jim kept that reminded him of Pam? Office Olympic origami doves, his copy of the mix tape he left in the teapot, the teapot card, some random doodle Pam gave him before Casino night, the citronella candle from grilled cheese on the roof. Hopefully there are a few possibilities in there for you.

So I liked how Pam's journey of introspection has come around in this chapter. She's finally okay with just being herself. Not Pam and, just Pam. Fancy New Beesly is ready to make herself known. There still is, and always will be, work to be done. However this is the start of the Pam who's ready to finally tell Roy the truth and who will walk through fire for Jim. Nicely done.

Author's Response: Hey Warrior! Thank you so much for responding, especially given the likelihood of sleep deprivation you are experiencing. I thought of the citronella candle, too! I kind of thought that was a crazy thought, but maybe we're on to something (or we're both crazy!). Thanks for your kind words. I think Pam went through a really terrible year in season three, but, as much I would have loved Jim to run back into her arms, I do like that she went on a bit of a journey alone.

I liked this one. Getting a new perspective on some of the Teapot Bonus Gifts as well as other things Jim collects. Getting a glimpse into Jim's mindset was good too. Looking forward to your next update.

Author's Response: Thanks, Warrior! There will be more getting into Jim's head in the next chapter as well. Glad you liked it, and, as always, thanks for the feedback!

Oh Jim, there you go still being the lovelorn fool you are. Kind of fun to get some more of the backstory between them. Especially the expired yogurt moment. He's clearly still reeling from everything and from where I sit doing everything he can to distract and deny what he really feels.

Only one chapter left? Really interested to see where this takes us.

Kind of hard to tell how I feel about this one. It's very angsty up until the last couple sentences then all of a sudden it turns around. I get this is Jim's internal thoughts, but it seems a little disjointed.

Not to say it's not an honest peak into Jim's head, because it clearly is and that part you did well.

This was all so very sweet. Seeing the progression of their relationship like this was wonderful to see. I liked how even though they're now fully a couple, hints of the past are still there, but they've gotten past them. Very good.

Author's Response: Thanks, Warrior! Yeah, I think there will always be hints of the past for these two but it makes a rich history, right? Thanks for your nice review.

Summary:

Pam finally opens up to Jim after the unthinkable happens.

I changed up the timeline a bit for this story. It’s as if Pam was painting the mural in the warehouse at the beginning stages of their relationship so they’re engaged but not married so obviously Cece hasn’t been born yet.

I’m not great at summaries but please give it a chance

First the technical part of the review. In general one should start a new paragraph when someone new starts talking. Makes it easier for the read to know when someone new is talking. Likewise there are some grammar issues that can be improved to make it easier for the reader as well. Here's an example from this story.

"Pam" he breathed out, a few more tears falling down his cheeks "my god, Pam. I'm so sorry" he whispered as he let go of her hands so he could wrap her up in a tight hug.

Grammatically correct, to the best of my knowledge, it should be typed thusly. "Pam," he breathed out, a few more tears falling down his cheeks. "My god, Pam. I'm so sorry," he whispered as he let go of her hands so he could wrap her up in a tight hug.

A subtle difference, but it makes it easier to read. A few things that can help in the future is to have someone proofread for you, or there's grammar software you can download to help out as well.

Content, it's a very powerful story. Sexual assault is always a very charged subject. I applaud how you wrote Pam's courage to talk about it as well as Jim's support for her. That's not an easy tone to convey, but you were able to so from how I read your story.

Summary:

My submission to the 2018 Halloween contest!

Dwight has a haunted corn maze at Schrute Farms -- Jim and Pam decide to check it out. Set somewhere either pre-cameras or s1, not quite AU but not episode related either.

I loved the digs about the twilight series. Any time someone roasts that thing my heart soars just a little more.

Great detail throughout. Once I warmed up to the idea it was actually quite fun. The Halpert family wolf pack was also quite fun to see too.
