Author of the Month March 2020

I've been writing fanfiction for awhile now. Just recently discovered The Office and figured I'd try my hand at that as well.

At first I thought of having all my stories in the same universe, but then I had some AU ideas. So any stories that occur within a common universe will be in a given series.

Going AU right away here. Interesting to see all of their thoughts. Roy being the testosterone fueled jock we all take him for. Pam not quite knowing where she stands until she sees Roy flirting with Katy. And of course love-lorn Jim being his love-lorn self.

This is just all sorts of interesting and I can't wait to see where it goes.

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Very interesting introspection on everyone's parts. Kind of unique twist getting Katy's POV. That's not something we see happen very often so it was a nice change of pace.

Also no June 10th announcement here as well. Just lots of confused emotions all around. I liked that Pam warmed up to having Jim's arm around her. I find it telling that Jim's arm around her shoulder is warm and safe whereas Roy's is heavy and awkward.

Doing a great job getting into everyone's heads with this chapter.

So lots of big changes here. Katy being the one to break up with Jim seems par for the course. She's actually kind of right. He did spend time cozied up to Pam and ignored her, his date. We all know the reasons why, but she does have a legitimate point.

Roy is being an ass as usual.

Gotta feel for Pam though. She's really had her whole life rocked. First with the feelings for Jim and now with Roy saying all that. Wow. Big weekend.

Really looking forward to seeing how things are in the office come Monday.

Really good job on creating an intimate moment with Jim and Pam in the stairwell there. Both Jim and Pam are finally free to explore their feelings for each other and seeing how that realization bloomed was really sweet. I also liked how Jim stood up for Pam there in the kitchen. Good job Jim.

Pam's realization that Jim has been holding himself back from really touching her was a great moment of clarity on her part. Likewise the fact that she reaches for him was adorable to witness.

Roy's an ass.

Really interesting to see Katy's POV show up again. I like that she has the wherewithal to avoid Roy. I mean seriously a drunk dial from a bar? I reiterate my previous statement about him.

Though I do wonder since he's struck out with Katy if he's going to try and get Pam back. This new version of Pam though I think also has the clarity to see what kind of future that might bring.

Obviously I really liked this chapter. Can't wait to see how it all wraps up.

Great way to end things. Lovely to see Jim and Pam move past friends to in a relationship. After the break-ups and everything it's lovely to see.

I do kinda wish we could have had a glimpse into Roy's world. Last chapter after Katy rejected him I had this vision that that's what keeps happening to him. Rejection after rejection because the women he's after are put off by him drunk calling and the like. But your story.

Besides that, like I said it was wonderful to watch Jim and Pam get together. Great story. Lots of fun.

Your talent for world building is on display once more. I love this AU you've got going. Speaking as a bit of a military history buff, the feeling of the immediate post-Civil War days is spot on.

I loved the instant connection between James and Pamela. Lovely to see all those sparks flying between them. Roy is setting up to be a proper villain here. And now time for some thrilling heroics maybe? I've got all sorts of ideas of where you might take this. Can't wait to see where we go next.

Magnificent job.

Author's Response: Thanks so much warrior! I love history but my husband is the huge military history buff in our house and so I picked his brain a bit. ;) I did try to make everything as accurate as possible; all the battles, raids and commanders are real. Also the first factory in Asheville was indeed Enfield Rifle Co so that was an easy fit.

Hooray for some thrilling heroics on Jim's part. Loved that he just sprang into action like that. Great way to see him behave. Shows his caliber and character really well.

Roy continues to be a complete jerk. Having Jim so unafraid of staring him down is such a great diversion from what we see in canon. I really like seeing Jim standing up to Roy and standing up for Pam like that.

Speaking of Pam, she's no pushover here either. What with her getting away from Roy as much as she was. Now granted she's constrained by the societal pressures of the time, but I really like the spunk I see from her.

Jim's right of course. The smell of burnt human flesh is not something one ever forgets if they're exposed to it. It tends to linger. Vivid scene there about Jim's recovery from that wound. He's very lucky to have survived that infection. Most didn't back in the day.

Really liking the dynamics you've got between Jim and Pam. It's very sweet to behold. That cliffhanger though is a beast. Please don't leave us hanging to long. I'm really loving this story and can't wait to read the next chapter.

Author's Response:

YES. It always bugged me that he didn't stand up to him in canon. I wanted to give Pam a little sass. Jim being around brings out that in her I think.

Thank you, warrior!

Very good for Jim to be doing as much of the honorable things as he can. I'm very much enjoying the quality of Col. Halpert here. This is a Jim who's not scared off easily and I love that.

Nice touch with the line from Casino Night. Very fitting for the period as well.

I didn't think Roy would take this lying down. However he also has a posse now. But Jim has an Army issue revolver and in the hands of a skillful marksman, those are powerful weapons.

Really looking forward to the next update on this. You're just amazing at setting the scenes and conjuring up all sorts of great images.

Author's Response: Thanks, warrior, so very much! Yes, I would like to think this is who Jim would be having faced what he’s had to face and the upbringing he had. Thank you!

I love this story so much. The bit of backstory there at the beginning added a lot of depth to James' character. The fact he had deeper motivations to join the Army besides just patriotism gives a really good insight to his character. Likewise it also sets him up nicely to be willing to take on four mounted men with just a pistol. Though didn't Colonels, especially cavalry Colonels also rate a saber as standard issue? Maybe he forgot it at his last duty posting or didn't think he'd need need it when for the escort mission that brought him to North Carolina.

I have no doubt that had Roy made one move more, James would have pulled that trigger. The timely intervention of Col. Vance seemed most fortunate. Something also tells me we may not have seen the last of Roy.

Speaking of Roy, great irony there. Drunk Roy accusing Jim, a decorated combat veteran, of being a yellow coward, when Roy stayed at home away from the front lines.

Also interesting that Pam saw that exchange too. The quality of her two suitors on full display, with a well regarded witness no less. Yeah, not a very hard choice there.

The wedding and journey north is also quite interesting. Considering the remembrances of battle in the early chapters, the softness of Pam next to James seems to be countering that. I do love that image. From what we've learned of James' service, and his willingness to indulge in whiskey, having the calm stabilizing presence of Pam nearby is a wonderful counterpoint to all that.

I also love how tender he is with her. As you clearly point out, he has every right to treat her as he will. I'm sure the thought of her wedding night to Roy was not a pleasant thought to Pam. I've got to think that regardless of how James has acted thus far, she has some of the same concerns with him as well. That he is tender, patient, and mostly asks permission with her I'm sure is a huge sense of relief. Though from other descriptions, she also has a fire building about her in regards to James. I'm sure that it'll burn quite hot when the opportunity arises.

Great chapter. Can't wait for the next update.

Author's Response:

Thank you Warrior! It is true, Cavalry officers would have had their sabers on them at all times when in uniform but I've kind of let James relax here a bit outside of his official mission that brought him to NC. When he's in town or when he's traveling with Pam he's not dressed out in full uniform, as was often the case. In more formal situations, like dinner at the Morgans or his wedding he would have been in full uniform with his saber and the maroon sash field grade officers wore, like Dress Blues are today. (This is all according to my own Lt. Col hubby, who is like my personal Civil War dictionary. ;D )

I like that you picked up on James' drinking habits before he met her. That may very well come into play later. Thank you for your thoughtful review!

Yeah, so that's an intense way to start out this chapter. Especially after I watched that YouTube clip you put in there. War is hell and its effects are so very long lasting. I think you describe it all very well, even if it's somewhat heartbreaking to envision.

As if we need any further evidence of how awful Roy is, there he goes being even worse. Thank goodness for Ms. Rebecca and her timing. Given that new information, yes I could easily see that Roy could have started the fire. Also makes sense as to why he didn't show up until the house was gutted. Other than him being the coward that he is. Also makes sense why Pam didn't want anything to do with him afterwards.

I'm so very impressed with the way you're writing Pam. I agree with James, Queen Victoria and her propriety be damned, this Pam is more than just a pretty face. It gives a lot more depth to her character. I absolutely love that she has that steel in her spine. Methinks she'll need it once they finally get to Philadelphia and they have to deal with the outcome of James not only breaking his engagement, but coming home with a wife.

Ok, now shall we talk about that bedroom scene? I mean holy smokes. Everything leading up to it as well as how you wrote it all. Just amazing. Not only is their first night together like that so beautiful to imagine it's also such a great counter point to the beginning of this chapter. I know I've said this before, but I do truly love how James is portrayed here. A man of character and integrity. He's so loving and tender with her. Clearly she's nervous about everything. That he takes his time with her the way he does is just wonderful to read. Their connection is just so strong. Yeah, great scene there.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Warrior.

Yes, Philadelphia might get a bit interesting and Pam will certainly need her toughness. ;)

I love James too. There is a bit more freedom in a pre-show complete AU like this in that I can shape them based on different experiences than the ones on the show.

Thanks as always!

So as always the gallantry of Col. James here is one of my favorite parts of this story. Staring down the shop owner was great. However Pam was also not backing down there too. Loved that just as much. She's got some grit to her.

Also loved all the referrences to canon. "Can I ask you a question," the house with a terrace, painting, and it all fits seemlessly. There's nothing forced and it's wonderful to read.

Their bond was strong to start out with and it's only growing with time. Great writing to bring that out.

And before I forget, the opening scene of them waking up in each others arms, just lovely. This feels kind of like a filler chapter. Just keeping things moving till we get to the madness that awaits them in Philly, but it's a a gormet meal of a filler chapter.

Reviewer: warrior4 Signed

Well worth the wait for this. I mean there's just so much going on. This feels like a huge moment. They're finally in Philly and everything that entails. There's absolutly a change of pace with Besty here. Ususally in fic she's seen as warm and loving. Here she's quite cool to Pam and Jim. Of course the reasons are there. Seems like Jim's caused a bit of scandal with bringing home not only a wife, but a Southern wife.

You can feel all the emotions just simmering under the surface of propriety and society here. I don't blame Jim at all for just wanting to shut the world away and stay closed off with Pam. However if there's one thing we've seen time and again with this Jim, it's that he doesn't shirk his duty, regardless of how hard it is.

Of course the connection he and Pam share, especially in private is wonderful to see. Jim not really giving a damn about the "proper" way to do certian things feels very in character. Why should anyone else care about how he and Pam show their feelings for each other in the privacy of their own home?

That scene at the end though. Just beautiful. There Jim is brooding and here comes Pam. Showing him in word and action he's not alone. That she can help soothe the pains he's gone through in the past and those he'll face in the present. The big takeaway is of course he's let go of that feeling that men of his status don't marry for love. He did and found something so precious with Pam that the rules be damned. Magnificent writing as per usual.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review, Warrior. Yes, I took a slightly different route with Betsy and you will see that with several of his family members but I really want to explore some aspects/struggles of this time. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!

Diving into more complexities now that everyone's situated in Philedelphia. The clouds of scandal seem to be brewing. Called up by the affronted Ms. Moore. I do find it interesting that she would seek to continue her pursuit of James here regardless of the news of his marriage. Also though the fighting is over, the war and the anger still flowing fron North to South and back again is still there.

Loved Larissa's appearence here. Likewise her recounting of tea. Pam shows her class and courage in dealing with Katy. I really love how Pam is portrayed there.

Lots of other fun details. The newspaper. Oscar, Dwight, and Mark making apperences. More political intrigue. There's just so much going on and I love every bit of it.

However still at the heart of this story is James and Pam. They've found something special and priceless in each other. They've found strength, healing, and most of all love. They are so well suited here that it feels like whatever storms may come, they'll be able to weather them together.

Sorry I didn't catch the Holmes reference, but the Shakespear was lovely. Beautiful chapter and I'm glad to see this one back.

Author's Response: Thank you, Warrior!  I always enjoy hearing the parts that were your favorites. The Holmes reference was a small interjection of his famous quote: "We have shared the incommunicable experience of war, we have felt, we still feel, the passion of life to its top. In our youth our hearts were touched with fire.” I used it when describing the emotions James and Markus felt in seeing each other after so long and after enduring what they did. I was a bit of fan of Ken Burns' Civil War when it used to come on PBS when I was like 12. That quote always stuck with me.

Have I ever said how much I love this story? Because I really love this story. The pace of the writing, the descriptions, the tension, the feelings between Jim and Pam all of it, just superb.

Anyway, I liked the image of Jim there in the dress shop. Paper is boring so go be with Pam. That's the Jim from canon we know and love.

I wonder if the arrival of a new maid will complicate anything? Remains to be seen.

James and Pam waking up like that was a treat to envision. Their room is their sanctuary and what they do in there is their buisness. Damn whatever society may say. I love that hint of rebellion in both of them.

Gerald seems a very imposing figure. Very much the masculine head of the family well set in the walls of partriarcal society. I'm sure he expected James to bow to his whims. However James has steel in his spine. I love that so much. In canon often Jim would back down from a hard situation. James here doesn't and I think that's wonderful. Methinks he'll need it as we go forwards.

Larissa is still a hoot-and-a-half. I'm really glad someone in the Halpert clan is on James' side. Even better that it's this firey Larissa. James is surrounding himself with strong confident women. He's not only not afraid of those confident women it seems he's getting stronger by it too. Wonderful.

More levels of political intrigue there over cigars and drinks. Still feels like storm clouds are brewing on the horizon.

And finally back to James and Pam. The image of him brushing her hair is just intimate. The banter they share through all of that shows that even in this new time and place, the core of these characters is there and I'm so very much here for all of that. Can't wait for more.

Author's Response: I am so thrilled you love it so much, Warrior! Julienne adds an interesting twist to be sure. ;) I wanted to portray Gerald and Betsy as good people in a very difficult situation. The pressures on them both politically and socially are different from their children, whom they raised to be independent thinkers that still work somewhat within the system. James is firm in his stance against his father, partly due to his experiences with war, also because this is an issue he will not compromise on, for obvious reasons. I also think that Jim on the show was poorly portrayed in that regard and for comedic effect. You can be a non-confrontational personality but still be convicted in your beliefs, which is the way James is truly. Thank you so much for reading!

James' protective streak shows itself here. First for his brother, even though he knows it's probably a lost cause when it comes to Thomas. Got a feeling like the unpleasantness of Tom from canon got ramped up a few degrees with Thomas there. Already drunk before noon, saying those things about Pam, sending his family away. Family ties seem to prevent James from doing anything more, but he's also not backing down. That steel James' spine still feels strong.

The dream certianly seems like an ominous premonition. To have a feeling like that tied around two of the people he's most cared about I'm sure would be unsettling. Especially after seeing the men watching him outside his home after the opera. However James is combat veteran here. Willing and able to defend what's important to him and as you so clearly portray, nothing is more important to him than Pam.

Speaking of her, I really like that she doesn't let him get away with keeping her in the dark. It's her safety that is potentially in danger as well and she has every right to be alerted to it. Shows she still has the fire in her that I feel was one of the things that first drew James' attention to her. Same thing with her not wanting to be a homebody. She's found a life worth living and wants to experience it.

Great to see this update. It's always a joy to get a new chapter.

Author's Response: Sorry I'm just replying, Warrior, but thank you! You are very right, James's war experience will become a key factor in how he responds to all this. Thanks for commenting!

Always great to see an update here. Love the introduction of Markus. Great to see another character from canon as well as a trustworthy sould to help keep an eye on things.

Jim's trip to the shipyard was interesting to say the very least. Brody is a dressed up scallyway if I've ever seen one. The fact he's so brazen about things seems not to bode well. However if/when things come to a head, I highly doubt he'll stand any kind of chance. That monster of Col. James service days may be hidden and resting for sure, but it's still there. I got the feeling that his service was what was expected of him. It was his duty and he fulfilled it to the utmost, but there was no deep passion in his wartime service besides tyring to do right by his men. Now however James has something worth protecting. If his rage in war was roused to serve his men, how much worse would it be to defend Pam? Not sure I want to see that and if Brody was smart, which it doesn't seem like he is, that rage is something he, Brody, would never want to see.

Getting beyond that, the birthday part was delightful. The connection Pam and James share just continues to strengthen. Her first gift of gloves is practical. Her second gift of the cufflinks, shows not only that she pays attention to him, but she's activly trying to be part of his life. Not just playing the dutiful wife, but endevoring to be a partner worthy of him. Love it. I'll get to her third gift in a moment.

I really liked the conversation he had with Betsy. At first it seemed Betsy wasn't really taken by Pam. After all, James broke a very strong engagement for this lady from the South. That she's willing to say Pam has won her over is lovely. This is really where I see she's bound by the proprieties of the day. She would probably like to be more demonstrative, but she has a duty to be proper. So this is as close as she can come to any sort of affection we might want to see. James knows that and it's clear he is grateful for his mother's blessing.

Pam's third gift of *ahem* the French way of things was delightfully steamy. More than likely James' mind was more than a little melted. Love saucy private Pam there. Again she's more than a match for James and I'm here for every second of it.

So something's afoot with Julienne. I got the vibe from the off. Really looking forward to seeing what's going on. Masterful work as always.

Author's Response: Thank you warrior! It's always so interesting to hear your thoughts and I appreciate it very much. :)

I get the feeling that what happened with Julienne was no random occurance. Especially with the way that Mr. Moore was acting at the saloon. I will say I was very glad to see the restraint James showed. It seems that his marriage with Pam has settled him enought to allow him to keep his temper. Peter being there also helped matters.

The look into the social life of this time period is as facinating as ever. At some points I find myself glad we've progressed a lot further than back then. At other points I'm also reminded that there's still much progress to be made as well. Well done for casting a spotlight on some of those issues.

Pam sitting on James' lap and giving him a straight razor shave? Ummmm, yes. Please and thank you and very much yes.

I really liked the line about how James' ship is now once more pointed at the North Star that is Pam. Good thing too as it seems they've intentionally set a hard course. Even more so now that there seems to be something afoot with Thomas.

Author's Response: Thanks warrior! Yes, the circumstances surrounding just about everything in this story are more intertwined than they appear. I love that you picked out the North Star line, it's one of my favorites. Thank you for the review!

First of all, really glad this one's back. I'd been missing it. I get other projects came up, which is fine. Still glad to be back here with this one.

More intrigue to be sure. Again I don't think it was some random happenstance that led to Thomas' death. There seems to be far to many undercurrents flowing through the streets. Even more so with that talk of the younger Moore brother and where he might tend to spend his time.

A bit more history of the Halpert family too. And some interesting conversation between Markus and Larissa. That could be fun to explore.

However as always it's in the private moments with James and Pam that this story shines. First in the stable where Pam just knows to come and find him. How they can not exactly cast off the worries of the world, but share them with each other. Same there in the study. Love that Pam is willing to talk to him in a way many other women of the era might not. And James in kind is more observant of her than many men of the era too. Love it. And maybe a nod to canon there? James and Pam are fairly new to their relationship yet here comes the little one. Not that James needs even more of a reason to protect her but still. Great update. Now to go read the companion piece!

Author's Response: I’m glad you appreciate their private moments because those are my favorite to write and I see them so vividly in my mind. Thank you Warrior!

Lots going on with this chapter that's for sure. As always I love how devoted to Pam Jim is. Especially after going back and re-reading some of their earliest encounters with each other. To see the way their love for each other from those early days grow and mature in this story is a master work of writing. James giving Pam her own art studio here, what a wonderful way to incorporate one of the best scenes from the show into this story. Beautiful way for James to show his devotion to her like that.

Another hard hit for the Halpert family as well. This time not as surprising for us as the reader considering we knew from earlier chapters of Cindy's condition. Still, it's another hard blow. And now Peter seems to be out of commission as well in regards to dealing with anything. So it falls to James. James may not feel himself up to the task, but I've got a feeling he will be. All the pressures he's already faced seem to have tempered him into the kind of man who will see honor his satisfied and justice is done. I also get the feeling that if Pam wasn't in the picture he would be quite a bit more hard on those he is after. Then again if Pam wasn't in the picture this whole mess probably wouldn't have happened but that's besides the point. What is the point is that it seems like he's got a lead on exactly who is the man responsible for causing much of the heartache that has visited the Halperts and a lead on the man who is pulling the strings behind it all. Should proved very interesting to see how it all unfolds.

As always the private moments between James and Pam are my favorite parts of this story. It's there that they both let their guards down. How they both reassure and comfort each other. How they are both the light for each other in an otherwise very long stretch of darkness. From their bedroom banter in the beginning to James showing Pam around her new studio, and here at the end where he is wonderfully honest in letting her know he heard her conversation. The two of them build each other up so much. By binding themselves together all the more tightly they'll be able to face things just that much more strongly. Soft words soothe a restless spirit and I see that written so well here.

And what's that there in your opening notes for this chapter? A sequel in the works already! More reason to look forward to anything you have to offer. Can't wait!

Author's Response:

Thank you for yet another insightful review! Yes, James has some difficult things in front of him and some of those things he didn't want to ever have to do again (killing someone). We will see how it all plays out indeed!

Yes, I have outlined the sequel (rather excitedly, I have big plans) but I can see now that interest in this story has dissipated so I may put it on the backburner for now. We'll see.

Thank you for your continued support! It thrills me that you enjoy it so much.

Starting out, did James win Sargent off on none other than Ulysses Sam Grant? Cause it kind of sounds like he did. Thanks for putting that in. Lots of fun for those of us who are also history nerds as well. Now back to reading.

Pamela's devotion to James is still as touching as ever. That she wants and offers to help him in his endeavors is proof of this. The thing I realize now is that while James would never discount her, many others would. Foolish be they of course.

Another historical reference with Clara Barton! Lovely. Same with Dwight's cameo. Absolutely he'd be concerned to have Pamela walking around. The flashback to Gettysburg brings in a lot of depth to James here. He's been through a lot and feels he has a debt to pay. His fear that this love that he's found in Pamela will be the price to pay that debt feels very real.

Hello little Margaret. That's a thread that still feels important.

Then to end things on a tender moment in bed like that was lovely. Pamela revealing the results of her own efforts was great. James' fatherly advice for his son strikes of the man of honor we know James to be while the advice to his daughter shows the charm and wit he also has. The 'stay away from men,' made me crack up and repeat it to my wife. Onto more!

So the time for intrigue and roundabout ways seems to have come to an end. A false message to lure James away then an attack on Pamela. Thank all the kind fates for Markus' presence. The council of war over bourbon very much felt like two soldiers readying themselves for the fight once more. They had a taste of peace, but there are still threats out there and those threats are getting closer with each day. The time for talk is over, it's time to draw swords.

But then Pamela coming downstairs like that? After being attacked! All I can say is I'm so glad you've got the next chapter ready to read because I don't know how I would have handled this if it had been a cliffhanger.

Those first tense moments of James waiting outside the room were rough. Then when the doctor came out and said Cecelia was born and that Pam was still alive were a literal weight off my shoulders. How are you so good at writing these kinds of things?

Sad to see Markus leaving, though very nice to see his intentions for Larissa being more manifest. James in bed with Pamela and Cecelia was a sweet and tender moment for sure.

However James was right. They intentionally targeted Pamela. Let him burn indeed. Feels like James will be up for this challenge.

So seems like Katy has a bit more going for her than it seemed at first. To risk quite a lot to give James that warning shows she's more than just a pretty face. Then for the fight and fire to show up at his house like that? Good thing he's a man of action. I'm sure Pamela had vision of the past flare up around her when she smelled that smoke. However like back in North Carolina there was a strong man to see she and everyone else was not consumed by smoke and fire. Him confronting the mob in his garden felt very much like how he defended Pamela from Roy. Once more she is in danger and so he lifts his rifle.

Dwight saving the day felt very much like the pepper spray incident. Dwight's there and because of his timely heroics it might just prove the means to get to the bottom of the whole affair.

Kind of bittersweet there at the end. Yes they're together, but the thought of him losing her is still a heavy weight on his mind. He's doing all this for her, but might be missing her in the process. Feels like S9 vibes. Onto more.

Yeah bit S9 feelings there at the start. James being away from Pamela and cold when they are together.

Gerald's fatherly encouragement and wisdom was great to read. I'm reminded of the time when James remembered coming home after fighting a bully fearing his father's wrath only to have Gerald say "well done." It's clear to see where James' sense of honor and duty come from. It might be a bit stiff due to the pressures of the time, but clearly Gerald holds James in high esteem and it's great to see that come through.

Then the confrontation. James is confident in his target and knows what he's after. The safety and security of everything he holds dear. However it's Peter who pulls the trigger. Wasn't expecting that.

Then finally James comes home to Pamela. She there to ease his fears and bring him home to her. A very touching a memorable scene for sure. Very much feels like the sensation of Jim and Pam holding each other once more in the parking lot in "Paper Airplanes." Forget the fear and doubt, and just be with the one person who makes it all worthwhile. Loved it.

Enough of the pawns, strike at the king. James' confidence in going to Charles is on full display here. Charles knows he's lost too. In the end he's a bully and as is typical, when faced with someone they can't intimidate, the bully cowers in fear. Great way to round that off.

Then James to come home to seek out his wife. Wonderful. He's overcome his fears. They may still be there of course, but the hope he's found with Pam at his side is so much more powerful than any fear. Wonderful.

Loved the addition of the full poem at the end too. Wish I still had more jellybeans to offer as well.
