Summary:

Jim and Pam, Hallmark(tm) movie style. Set in the S2 Christmas break (after the Christmas party, before the Booze Cruise). Canon-compliant until then, though with my own interpretation of how that break went, but it's a Hallmark Christmas movie so we all know how it's going to end.

For the 2018 Secret Santa fiction exchange.

The best part? Roy forgetting they'd broken up. I actually loled at that. Great story! (Very Hallmark-y)

Author's Response: Thanks! Yeah, Roy fits the bill as a dumb Hallmark starter boyfriend almost too well!

Wow!! Just wow! I love it when Pam is sure of herself and risky, and it's such a nice contrast from that Pam at the beginning of the story, who was trying not to watch Jim and Karen kissing.

Author's Response:

Aw thank you! Maybe I’ve given it a little too much though, but I definitely feel like Pam would have felt this comfortable and confident as long as it was on her terms, in her house, and you know, the tequila doesn’t hurt things either. :)

That's an evil cliffhanger!
This fic is one of the best drunk!Pam/drunk!Jim ever. Thanks for sharing.

Author's Response: Thank you! One of these days, I swear I’m going to write something that doesn’t involve them drinking their feelings but until that day, I’m having too much fun with all the possibilities. Thanks for reading! :)

Such a perfect final chapter!!
I really liked the reference to the turtledoves and Home Alone. And well, all that tequila induced... ehm... affection.
Great story!

Author's Response: Thank you! I’m so happy the turtledoves thing worked out - I was worried while writing it. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment; I’m excited to have time to sit down and read your new story now!

I love pre documentary Jim/Pam. And this chapter was perfectly done. I sounds real, the way you start noticing things after something triggers you to.

Author's Response: Thank you! I really enjoy trying to figure out what they'd have been like before we see them, so I'm glad this worked for you!

That last line almost hurts, because I can see how it can be true for Jim.

Author's Response: Yeah, there have been times in my life I could relate to that feeling, and it just seemed...appropriate for Jim there. Thanks for reading!

Roy makes me think about my ex, and your take on him is as if you knew him on the flesh

Author's Response: Well, I hope those thoughts aren't too unpleasant, because I hope you're enjoying the story, but I really appreciate hearing that I'm doing a good job of conjuring out a Roy-like feel from these chapters. Thank you.

Ah, Roy. So clueless, but not in a bad way. I really hate when fanfics portrait him as mean or violent to Pam. I think there is more subtlety in their relationship. Thanks for the update

Author's Response: My pleasure! And yeah, I do think later Roy is more mean and violent (see: Cocktails) but pre-first-breakup I think they're really not there...otherwise it's a lot darker and I don't think actually supported by the footage. Thanks for reading!

This is, hands down, the most perfect version I've read of "Casino Night". I love the way you manage your PoV, and how you paint the whole picture putting all three together. Really beautiful.

"like reading closed captions lagging two to three seconds behind the action, the words not quite making sense". This is perfect. Just perfect.

And of course, Pam being silent was the worst.

Thanks so much for a wonderful update.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! That means a lot to hear. I tend to try to steer away from Casino Night since for AUs I like to go happy, but I've had a lot of ideas about it bouncing around in my head ever since I started writing on this site, and this is how they came out. I'm very glad it worked well for you, because I had a lot invested in this version.

Ouch! My heart! You are evil, you know? An amazing writer, though.

Author's Response: Thank you! For both, actually, since I have to admit that at this point in the narrative "being evil" really just means "sticking to the storyline." Such a sad part of the series...

Argh Roy! Get a move on, you big oaf.

But, yeah, I can see where he's coming from. And how he's not really fast keeping up.

Strange how he realises about all those things he didn't really noticed before, only he did, but they weren't important in his life.

Anyways, sorry about the rambling. Great update!

Author's Response: I mean, this is Roy, sadly. He's always out of sync with Pam in time, lagging behind her. I feel sorry for hum...but only so sorry. Thanks for reading!

Author's Response: Good! That was the idea...:)

I really like the way you've captured Pam's state of mind in this one. She'd made some big moves, which are bigger considering who she is - or was - at the beginning of the series.

It's easy to imagine her, at her own place for the first time, in front of an empty white sheet of paper, just thinking that she ought to feel better, but she can't yet.

And then Roy's mother calling, bringing her back to this confusing reality in which she is neither here nor there yet, but that still holds so many links to her previous life.

And that last part about not having chicken or fish is perfect. Again, I can imagine her driving to some place completely different, to get a burger or a salad, and actually enjoy it, in a guilty sort of way.

Gotta love Pam, and you make a superb work portraying her! Thanks!

Author's Response: Thank you very much! I'm always unsure if I've hit Pam right, so this is very good to hear.

I loved the part of Roy seeing Pam before she sees him and thus pretending for a second they are still together. I am not a fan of Roy, but that made me feel sorry for him.

As usual, fantastic!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I feel like at this point Roy deserves some pity--not that he deserves Pam, but that he has had a pretty awful few months.

Ouch my heart again!

Confession, I skipped most of season 3 the first time I saw The Office because I couldn't stand these two being apart. And afterwards I read about this phonecall on a fic and I had to go all the way back, which was good but also painful.

Thanks so much!

Author's Response: S3 is really painful, I agree. I disagree with a lot of the writers' choices, which makes AUs fruitful and of course makes something like this that is canon-adjacent harder. Thanks for reading!

Author's Response: I apparently missed this on the way through the first time--I felt exactly this way about S3. Sorry this fic will put you through an elongated version of the same thing.

19 episodes are a sh*tload of episodes!!! Sorry, sorry, ehem. I'm cool. Except, not really.

What if he had answered, though?

Author's Response:

That's true, but there won't be a chapter for each necessarily, so it'll be sooner than you think.

And if he had? If I were going AU with this? She'd have answered back. And then they'd have gotten into texting each other. And then maybe The Merger wouldn't be such a cluster****.

Well, this Roy surprised me. I actually wanted to hug him and tell him it's going to be ok, but then I realised it's Roy and... gah!

I really like the way he notices Pam in this one... ans hiw he didn't think of Jim at the end. Great update!

Author's Response: I considered having him think of Jim, but then decided it didn't work with where I wanted this to go. I'm glad you found him actually sympathetic until you remembered who he was (and he did too). Thanks for reading!

Oooh come on! (With the voice of Andy in that intro with the square bouncing on the monitor)

I know, I know, yoy did what you had to do but this chapter... oh how I hate it, and how a hate Jim above all and how I wish Pam would just grab him and tell him to stop being an ass.

Ehm... ok. Enough ranting. Super work, as usual!

Author's Response: Thank you! I am sorry in advance for the upcoming angst.

I really liked this prank, even though there was something cruel in it. Great to know Pam and I agree! Thanks for the update.

Author's Response: Not sure how I missed responding to this the first time around. I love it when I agree with people's characters, so I'm glad I could give you that experience too!

Ha, Jim taking revenge through basketball because... guys. And well, Roy, you're a moron. Sorry.

Author's Response: Thanks for reading! Not even sure if it's revenge as much as it is...sublimating the fact that he won't or can't act towards Pam the way he wants to and Roy can. Which I suppose is kinda like revenge, yeah.

That scene with Dwight is one of my all time favourite Office moments. And THE absolute favourite that doesn't include Jim and Pam (close second: Michael at the art show)

Loved the list!

Author's Response: Thanks! I love that moment too; explicitly including it didn't quite fit, but I'm glad the nod to it worked for you. And the list was a lot of fun to write.

Sounds pretty canon to me. And yeah, Jim is one big fat coward.
And I also think he is a little cruel to Pam on purpose.
Great update!

Author's Response: Thanks! And yeah, I'm sorry to say that's pretty much my take too. Which is a shame, since I kind of want to identify with him (or at least, like him all the time). Oops.

I need something hard to smack him in the head. Ideas?

I'm glad you did his pov on this one.

Author's Response:

Just re-use the items you were using to smack Roy! I recommend the 2x4 in particular.

Thanks! I decided Pam's and Roy's POVs on the art show were overdone, so Jim was my best bet (also Cocktails and the Negotiation are quite Roy-and-Pam-centric).
