1 Nine years later and I am still hoping against hope for an update someday. This is one of those genius fics that stays with you, that you think about for days or that sneaks up on you unexpectedly in the random stories. I would love it if you would finish it, but I am also thankful for the parts that we got.

Starts out between Season 2/3
1 The goddamn box indeed. It hurts in the best way possible. Do you know you write hurting Jim in such a way that it causes me like physical pain? Because you do.
But also never, ever stop.
That last paragraph...how dare you.
1 So. As I was rereading this epic masterpiece at 3am it occurred to me that I had never left a review. Probably because I’m very late to the party around here but whatever. Anyway, I have only cried a handful of times in my life at a fanfic but I legit cried, embarrassingly so, several times durning this one. Allow me to recap the points of my mental breakdowns:
“It was a Thursday night in March.”
“Do you think we broke each other?” When Karen’s head tips to the side, Pam knows she’s buying time, not genuinely confused. But she continues anyway, “Jim. And me. Did we break each other?”
“That thing you’ve always done. Stand in a room full of people and look at her like you’ve never seen a woman before.”
Yep, I lost it. Alone. In the dark. In the middle of the night.
“Okay, you’re getting cut off.” Karen ceremoniously moved the wine bottle to the floor. “You say ‘fuck’ a lot when you get twisted.” —That is the moment I officially fell in love with Karen.
So in conclusion, you have ruined all stories for me going forward and I am tempted to never write anything again because clearly this is the best there is.
Seriously, DC this is perfect and beautiful and painful and I never want it to end. If it takes several months to get to read about the third date, it will be worth it. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
The summer she calls off her wedding, she spins a little bit out of control.

1 I’m just here on like my 8th or 9th reread (hell, I lost track honestly) and I just wanted to document that this will forever and always be one of my favorite lines in all of fanfic, and that’s saying something:
““Did you mean it?” He could be asking in reference to a million things but she’s pretty sure right now he’s only thinking about one thing and she laughs fully because it’s comforting to know that no matter how much she loves him and how perfect her fantasy of him is, at base, he’s still very much a man just like every other man.“
God, Coley this is such a damn classic. Please never, ever stop providing the universe with such immeasurable talent.

1 I was SO STINKIN’ EXCITED. To see this updated, you have no idea. I love Mafia Jim so much.
I am quite literally entranced by this story and of course, your writing is flawless. You make it seem so effortless to have this underlying tension while having them still be very much in character but also realistically in this unviverse. The threats they face, while not shown implicitly, still fill the atmosphere with their violence. The way you have shaped Jim’s character is so very on par with how I see him and I love the little nuanced ways we get to see that.
Anyway, you know I’m absolutely terrible at reviews but, Coley, this story is such a masterpiece.
Meeting in an unusual place in life, a broken Jim and Pam try their best to put the pieces of their lives back together while not falling apart and back down the hole that they're trying to help one another out of.
Based on the song "How Not To" by Dan + Shay, because do I *ever* write something that *isn't* based on a song?
1 Okay, so I've hesitated reading this one, despite the fact that your writing is always delightful, because the subject matter hit pretty close to home with some family members. I'm so glad I finally did. It is perfectly done, both in the depths of their struggles as well as the constraints of the qualities of their characters. I can't wait to read more!
1 There’s so much to love about this chapter. The Lost references (I’m in the middle of my own rewatch), the green nail polish, everything. Also, Karen/Larisa/Pam/Jim sleepovers are a new favorite thing, and THAT’S a sentence I never thought I’d write.

The summer after her 16th birthday everything comes crashing down. Pam's life as she knew it begins to change. The perfect cocoon of a life she had originally had begins to crumble.

And this chapter…oh, how that first baby changes everything! That simultaneous feeling of your life being “over” but also just beginning. You have absolutely expressed all of those doubts and questions and fears (as a woman) so succinctly and beautifully here. Just lovely.
