I'm coming to this fic late - but just to say, I love it! There are so many great moments - Pam hearing about Jim's crush, the drunken kiss, Pam's dream, and Jim making her eggs in the morning :) I also loved drunk Pam with the talking too loud and giggling, and this line 'Heard my coworker has a crush on me, made out with him, slept in his bed and had a near-sex dream about him' really cracked me up. Although Jim and Pam's conversation in this chapter is pretty heart-breaking. The running When Harry Met Sally thread is so great (and nicely timed with her - hopefully - revelation) - I'm very excited about the next chapter and her conversation with Roy!

Summary: Past Featured Story

Jim returns to Scranton from Stamford in a world where Karen doesn't exist. Pam wants to pick up where they left off on Casino Night but Jim tells her he's done all the pursuing so far, and he'd like be pursued (read: seduced). "Give me a reason to come back."

Inspired by the Taylor Swift song "I Think He Knows".

I’ve now definitely got the song in my head just from seeing the title of this - this is such a delight to read! I love the show, but I now just really really wish they’d done this in season 3 instead. Pam seducing Jim, and the flirting, and all of the the dialogue between them - so amazing. (I am also loving Isabel, the shrine really cracked me up). Very excited for the weekend!

Ahh I was genuinely very scared for Pam throughout this chapter - and so intrigued by who the man is at the end!! I'm also v impressed that you wrote in Irish here, and it really adds to the confusion/Pam's terror throughout the chapter. Can't wait for the next one!

Author's Response: Oh, thank you so much! I was planned for quite a long time to add multiple languages in my stories, so I'm glad it worked out well :)

Oof this chapter is so painful, and so good. (Also a big fan of the chapter title). You did such a great job of describing the Jim who doesn't know her yet, and Pam's hurt and confusion - also this is presumably the first time Jim has met Pam, so he'll be working forward/back from that? (I get muddled on time travel lol, but I love it either way). I also love the note about Danny, hee, and Jim's assumption. Sounds very Danny.

Pam going back and not being able to cope is just heartbreaking - I especially loved this bit: 'The person who hurt you. This was the final pebble in an overbrimmed jar, and Pam cried brokenly on her mother's chest. How could she describe him if she didn't know who he was anymore?' So gut-wrenching.

And then ahh Jim wanting her to join him and having no idea what's gone on, and her reply...I need the next chapter on this!!

You’re back!! I was so excited to see this fic again - I’ve just re-read it to remind myself of what happened, and have fallen in love with it all over again. And what a brilliant chapter to come back with - I love the idea of Dunder Mifflin as a facade for something sinister, and the ‘temp’ as some kind of shell attached to the headset is just genius. I also love that Jim’s immediate instinct is protect Pam, even with the coldness between them. Hope you’re keeping well - I can’t even imagine what the past few months must have been like for you, and the fact that you’ve managed to write on top of that is incredible.

So: I have to confess that I'm not normally a huge fan of sci fi - but this is amazing! It's so beautifully written. I've just read the whole thing, and I'm hooked. I really like the way you've written their relationship, this version of Jim is adorable/heart-breaking, and I'm really enjoying how you've re-worked lines from the show and things like Pam's volleyball camp and the hockey game. It's so great! And their interactions all still feel very real, and very them, despite the setting. I'm also so intrigued about what's going on with Karen and everything that Jim knows. Their kiss in this chapter was perfection. And then the cliffhanger at the end! 😱 I am now eagerly waiting for what comes next...

Author's Response:

Aww, thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to me. And, to be honest, I'm not a sci-fi fan either, but I'm fond of time-traveling (and mixing things I like together), so Jim and Pam with their infamous timing... match made in heaven :)
I'm a slow (English) reader and even a slower writer, but I'm already working on the next chapter, and I hope to publish it in the following weeks. Thank you again!

I don't know why, but I read the title of this thinking it was maybe a reference to Pam's necklace, or the story she was working on, and this was....so much better than that. Wow. I don't think I realised that I was missing a Danny/Jim/Pam threesome or a Karen/Jim/Pam threesome before this. I also love how you've written both Danny and Karen here, and that Jim and Pam still both feel very in character even in this scenario. “Thinking of a card, too? Dear Instagram, thank you so much for reconnecting my spouse and I with our exes so that we can screw them. Love, The Halperts” really made me laugh. And the ending!!

I'm always so impressed by these 55 word challenges (I just don't think I could ever write that concisely) - and this is so great! I love the bit about the fourth time being for them so much. And Jim noticing Pam's one quiet sniffle, and his wordless comfort for her (and Phil's reaction to it, lol), and Phil and Cece bickering...I love all of it. You've also made me want to re-read the Irrigation Room, which is excellent.

Author's Response: They have their challenges - I think to do them well the idea has to really come to you whole cloth. I'm really glad you liked this one though! I love this sort of bittersweet moment in a happy life for them and trying to make it feel real.

Summary: Dunder Mifflin has a lot of employees who might be considered a liability. But are any of them actually capable of… murder?

Their co-workers say yes.

(A cold open circa Season 6. #3 in the Rejected Cold Opens series).

WARNING: There are comedic references to the death of an animal in this fic. No graphic description (or any - I would say there's nothing here near as disturbing as Sprinkles' death in canon), but if that’s a trigger you might want to give this a miss.

So I've just discovered these cold opens - they're incredible! And hilarious. I actually laughed out loud at several points during this. You've captured all of their voices so well I can see all of this happening on screen: and it's so amazing that you've managed to do that in your writing just with dialogue and a few stage directions. (Did you secretly used to be a writer on the show?) And obviously I love the little Jim and Pam moments woven in. The network notes also really cracked me up (YES on the random attempts to make Andy a romantic lead that season). This is all just brilliant!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! That's an amazing thing to hear, I really appreciate it, especially about capturing the voices - I'm always really concerned they're just going to end up sounding exactly like me. (Look, I get it, Ed Helms was becoming a movie star at this time, it made sense from a business perspective to put him out front, but from a creative standpoint, you're kind of asking us to forget A LOT about Andy.) So glad to hear you enjoyed this!

Summary: It’s a clear signal they’ve become real friends, not just two people leaning on each other to get through an endless workday.

I loved this. So beautifully written, with so many nice moments and just the right amount of angst (and also Larissa! I'm sad it doesn't look like she ever appears on show). I was also wondering about Pam's friend situation, and the not fitting in with jocks or the artsy kids makes so much sense, plus the dropping out of college (I don't know if that's canon, but it feels like it should be). I loved the little snatches of Jim's perspective, and also this line - "Jim is beaming at her, his you’re the greatest thing since sliced beets smile" - because he really does look at her like that. This is just lovely!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm sad about the lack of Larissa too, but that does make her REALLY useful for fanfic purposes. The Pam dropping out of college bit is semi-canon, I think - never mentioned in the show, but Jenna Fischer has been public about that being part of her personal backstory for Pam. I'm glad you enjoyed this one!

Summary: We fall in love and become allies against the world.

Jim and Pam have been in an alliance for a very long time. It has nothing to do with downsizing (although there is chatting and giggling).

I loved this! I really want to see more of Jim and Pam's alliance and this was perfect. Jim hanging around in case she needed a rescue, Pam's Todd Packer face, Jim knowing he might end up feeling bad for Michael even though he's annoyed, and the fact that Jim quite likes the cameras and know that Pam won't - there are so many nice touches in this. It also made me go back and rewatch the pilot (they are weirdly awkward in that scene!), and I'm unbelievably slow because I didn't twig that Jim pranked Michael directly after what he did to Pam...so thank you for pointing that out. Amazing!

Author's Response: The friendship that underlies their romance is such a big part of what makes Jim/Pam appealing to me, so I'm happy to provide a little more of them fighting for each other like friends (albeit friends who are totally secretly pining for each other). And I'm glad you picked up on some of those details! Yeah, I ended up rewatching the pilot a bunch while writing this for timing purposes (getting everyone where they needed to be in between Roy coming up to the office and Roy beeping at her was a little tricky), and there's definitely some early installment weirdness that it was interesting to try to explain through fic. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Dwight really does always win big against Jim the few times that he does. I was a bit appalled about the client stealing. This is another great chapter (please please write more of these!) - I think Jim's aside about how he should lose a big client every week might be my favourite line. I also loved Jim initially being too embarrassed to tell she was angry, and the fact that Pam knows straight away who Deckerd are and how much they love Jim, and the little flashes of his concern when Dwight goes for her, and that she could get fired.

Author's Response: It's just such a low Dwight moment - especially because it's him screwing up Jim when he's actually *trying* to work for a change. The aside about him feeling like he should lose a big client every week is what I started with and built everything else around, so I'm glad you keyed in on that. And I definitely appreciate you noticing the little show-not-tell touches about where they are in their relationship at this point. There are definitely more of these coming - this should be seven parts overall, although the next one is pretty short. Hope you continue to enjoy!

Date: October 22, 2020 Title: Chapter 3: Vs. The King of Forwards

I liked this. As someone who only started watching The Office in 2020, I found Michael's constant sexual harassment of Pam...difficult to watch. And I agree that Jim should have called him out on it more (although also, the awkward no one saying anything was probably quite accurate for the time). And I think this is realistic - Jim's not perfect. His redeeming feature for me in Sexual Harassment was how much he hated Todd Packer (and I find any scene with Todd Packer in really, really difficult to watch and verging on not funny at all).

But back to this chapter - I think it's very well-written and you get the balance/conflict between Jim as Pam's best friend and Jim fantasising about Pam exactly right. One of things I really liked about S2 Jim is that he only ever talks about Pam's personality when he's trying to explain what he likes about her - but...clearly that's not the only thing he's noticed. So the internal dialogue and the way he catches himself and feels guilty about it feel spot on.

Author's Response: It really is unpleasant, and especially given how often we're asked to sympathize with Michael immediately after he does something genuinely abhorrent because he gets embarrassed when someone pushes back. I do think that Jim/the rest of the ensemble not commenting is realistic to the timeframe, but it's definitely Very Noticeable. And oooof. Yes. Packer is unwatchable. (Naturally, he is an inciting incident in a future chapter of this fic.) Yeah, it is very clear that Jim's love for Pam is pure... but I don't think it's chaste, and I'm glad the conflicts that arise from that work for you.

Summary: Past Featured StoryJim’s been visiting reception five (or 10, or 15…) times a day for years. It turns out it’s become a reflex, and one it will take some work to get rid of now that Pam sits next to him. She’s got a plan, though. (Also: the story of how Jim lost his virginity.)

Gah I was so excited when I realised there was another one of these! I really enjoyed this - I love the idea of this becoming a reflex for Jim (but also, seriously, it must have been). Erin's reactions really cracked me up, and so did Jim scrambling each time and Pam just being quietly amused. I also think you convey their physical reactions/mannerisms so well and in character (Jim drumming his fingers on the desk and shoving himself up from his chair, Pam giving him a tongue between the teeth smile), I can literally see it happening on screen. And the smile of a guy who wakes up to find his wildest dreams have come true! So yeah, I loved this.

Author's Response: Yeah, this was a fun one to write (if surprisingly challenging from a technical perspective). Flustered Jim and Having Fun At His Expense Pam are a really great combo. And I'm very pleased to hear that about the physical mannerisms - not my strong suit as a writer. Glad you enjoyed this, and I appreciate the review!

Ah, the mini golf at the start of this was so, so good! I loved Jim’s running commentary so much. And then the go-karting! This was really fun. I enjoyed Jim’s chat with Jonathon, too, and the effort he then puts into upping his game for Pam, and her noticing the small things - especially the moments with the cuffs and the necktie. And the exchange at the end was just perfect 😍 This was such a great chapter!

Author's Response: Thanks Basscop! Really glad you liked it so much. It's always a ton of fun to write Jim and Pam in a good place with each other. Getting Jim to kind of fast forward from his S1 and S2 baggy office outfits to the stylish mensware he sports towards the end of the show was a ton of fun too. I feel you on the trying and failing to write shorter chapters, but - I’m very glad this one was this length! And longer chapters are always a treat, really. I really enjoyed Pam and Izzy’s conversation at the beginning of this (and Izzy pointing out that they’ve already been on several dates, which: thank you!) The dress Pam ends up picking sounds gorgeous (as is the image of Jim in a vest), and I loved this line for his reaction to her - ‘it made her feel warm, like velvet brushing against her skin’. Their entire date is just lovely from start to finish, I love that she got to meet Jonathon too. And then her pulling him into her apartment by the tie!! As much as I love Jim being a perfect gentleman, I’m very glad that Izzy was right, haha - this was a brilliant ending. Amazing chapter!

Author's Response: I got to writing this one and found I just wanted to get it all out there without breaking it up. Izzy has been a ton of fun throughtout this story. The sounding board and girl friend Pam really needed early on. Izzy is able to see through all the excuses Pam offers up. Glad you liked the dress descriptions. I left a link on Discord that shows what it really looks like in case you're interested. The date was a ton of fun to write. As was writing Pam just going for what and who she wants. I loved the Roy/Darryl conversation in this so much - I thought it was a really nice touch, and actually great to see some more of their genuine friendship (which the show sort of breezed past). Especially given how level-headed we know Darryl is from later seasons: it's really nice to see him using that here, and Roy actually learning from it. And then Jim being so understanding, and the lucky pen, was incredibly sweet. I'm glad Pam and Roy were able to have a mature conversation and actually get some closure - and I'm now v excited about what this means for Jim and Pam :D

Author's Response: I figured I'd harped on Roy long enough in this fic. I'd like to think this is kind of how things would have gone down if Darryl had been able to intervene in canon. It's one thing to be told to cool it from someone you have little respect for, it's another thing to be taken down by someone you actually respect. Glad that was able to come through. Same goes for the Pam and Roy relationship. I did like in canon that they were able to have that final conversation at the diner and saw no reason to really stray to far from it.

Glad you liked the lucky pen. Kind of a fun thing to be sure. Should be a lot of fun to develop Jim and Pam from here on out. Thanks for the review.

I've been slow at getting to this - but I love it!! I really like the idea of a couple of small things changing Pam's course (especially with all the moments in the show where it felt like if one have them had just said the right thing/been in the right place at the right time, it might have changed). I'm really enjoying the introduction of Jonathon in this, and Isabel obviously - this might have been one of my favourite bits: “Look out world ‘cuz old Pammy’s going to get what she wants,” Izzy teased as they walked out the door.
“You know it,” Pam replied. “But don’t call me Pammy.” And them cooking together, and the prank with the expired yoghurt in this chapter, was just perfect. (I also loved the insight into how Roy sees everyone else in the office at the start of this fic, and the Dwight/Roy interaction really cracked me up). I'm hooked!

Author's Response: Thank you. It's been a fun story to work on, exploring what the implications of a single changed decision could have been. There's probably more than a few changed decisions here but the concept is the same. I'm glad you enjoyed all those bits. It's always kind of fun to take lines from the show and give them a bit of a twist. Happy to have you here.

I'm out of jellybeans :( But I really enjoyed this! I love the idea the the FTC came into being in season 3, which would make total sense as something that Pam started with other people in the office, outside Jim. The last line here is great - I really like the assertive!Pam. And it makes it even sweeter that she eventually invites him to join to cheer him up.

Author's Response:

Oh, I'm glad you liked this one! FTC established in season 3 is 100% my headcanon, and I think it was one of the things Fancy New Beesly made to highlight her new self (I'm sure that Roy wouldn't have appreciated it if she'd done something like that while they'd been engaged). And I agree that it was a sweet touch, that Pam invited Jim later...
