Interesting start to a new story.
It reminds me of when Jim was such
an ass in season 3.
His sister was a bitch as well.
Just because Pam rejected Jim on CN that doesn’t give him, and his sister, license to treat Pam like trash. Like in canon,Karen is ridiculous in this story. Can she be any more desperate
when it comes to Jim?
Now that being said, Jim is being an ass
to Karen too. He’s definitely giving mixed signals to his family about Karen, showing pictures of her to his brothers and wanting to avoid her with his sister. Karen and Pam both should tell Jim to piss off.

Author's Response: You know, I was thinking, you in particular are *really* not going to enjoy the direction this story takes. Thanks for reading and taking the time to review though!

I have to say that I’m a bit flattered that you thought of me in particular when writing this story.
I guess that’s what happens when you make your opinions about certain characters and storyline very clear. 😂
As much as I love Pam as a character, it always annoyed me how she let the guys she loved
treat her like trash, especially while they ignored their own behavior.
IMO season 3 showed an unattractive side of Jim that was very similar to how Roy behaved.
In a way I wish that Pam had gone to art school
in season 3 instead of S4 so she could get some space away from the awful treatment of the others. It wasn’t just Jim and Karen that were awful to Pam.

Author's Response: You have laid down a marker there, that's for sure!

Well, it's part of her journey, I suppose. I have a certain amount of sympathy for Season 3 Jim - and more with regards to how he treated Pam than how he treated Karen. He's in a position he really actively sought not to be in, and we've got a lot of information about how she feels that she doesn't. There are some VERY good Karen leaves Scranton in Season 3 fics that explore that very idea, though. If you haven't checked out "if i stumble through another year of blindness by bebitched, that version of Pam might be right up your alley.

Summary: One way or another, 2006 was not going to be Karen’s year. Or, five ways Karen Filippelli could have found out about Jim and Pam.

This is interesting.
Seeing Karen in this way as a intelligent single woman, instead of a blind girlfriend who becomes desperate to hold onto a guy who she knows has feelings for someone else.
I think that I could have probably liked Karen if she hadn’t been with Jim, or at least let him go when she found out that he loved Pam.

Author's Response: I do think this is a chapter of Karen's life she's going to look back on and be horrified about - because I think Karen is a smart, and love just made her do the wacky. And I totally agree that she can be a very likable character, she just happens to be the point of the love triangle. Part of what I want to get into with this. Thanks for taking the time to review!

Well seeing things from Jim’s POV was interesting. As usual I have little to no sympathy for Karen. Yes it was wrong for Jim to give her mixed signals, and it was wrong to sleep with her
knowing that he really didn’t want to be with her long term, but Karen knew that Jim had feelings for Pam, and yet she still stayed in a relationship with him. Karen took a risk of getting hurt and that’s what happened. It was good to see that Jim actually defended Pam,especially since he
treated her like trash since he first came back to Scranton. I do want to see JAM move forward in their relationship, but I do think that they should talk out their issues before they get too serious because it will be a dark cloud hanging over them.
I definitely think Jim should apologize to Pam for
his attitude towards her during season 3, because he was a big ass.

Author's Response:

Thanks for this!  I am totally with you on the Jim/Karen situation, I do think she was hit sideways by his dumping her the the way he did, but to an extent she knew what she was getting into.

I would like to think that some of what I glossed over in terms of detailed conversation at the restaurant alluded to them starting to make proper peace with each other, but there was definitely more to come from them in terms of reconciling their feelings. And we will explore more of that in the last part, coming very soon ;)

Interesting story. I’m not sure I completely understand that last part with David Wallace.
Am I missing something?
I think that Jim hit the nail on the head when describing his relationship with Karen.
The Jim she wanted was Stamford Jim,
who was not the real guy.
I also agree that Jim and Karen didn’t have
much in common, not to mention a complete
lack of chemistry. Yes I do think that Jim gave Karen mixed signals about wanting to be in
a long term relationship with her.
However, Karen also knew that Jim had loved
Pam, so Karen took a gamble with getting hurt,
and she lost. I will say kudos to Karen though
for sticking up for Pam.

Author's Response:

Appreciate the compliments!

About the bit with David Wallace: in a later episode, Ryan passive-aggressively confronts Jim about talking to David Wallace regarding an issue with Dunder Mifflin Infinity; it was during a Christmas party, hence the line with Pam visiting family.  It was never shown on screen because of the writers strike's influence on S4's production.

Anyway, I did want to present their issues in full force, the heated emotions that both of them feel towards each other coming back.  Neither of them are really blameless here.  And yeah, I always wanted Karen and Pam to be friends, hence their reunion in "Lecture Circuit" being so amicable.

Thanks for the review!

Yay!
I’m so glad you decided to give us a sequel.
Why did Jim give Karen full credit custody of Julia? He’s a good dad, and that’s a separate issue from being in a loveless relationship.
I liked seeing things from Jim’s POV.
It showed his depression pretty well, and that
he and Pam really are two peas in a pod.
Please update soon.

Author's Response: i'm so happy you enjoyed it! You put it so well, Jim an Pam are two peas in a pod. I also wanted to let you know that Karen does not have sole custody of Julia, they have joint custody.

14 years, wow! Definitely a big jump.
This chapter was a bit on the sad side,
but fitting with JAM in S9, and their lack of communication.
I’m not too worried about them though, because
I have faith that JAM will work it out.
I had to laugh at another review of
Karen living up to her name. 😂
I have also thought of how Karen turned
out to be a good name for the character.
I am curious about Pam and Karen’s
relationship after all these years.
It does seem very awkward.
Did Karen ever get remarried?

Author's Response: Thank you for the review! I'm so happy to hear that you are enjoying the story so far. And to answer your question: No, Karen never got remarried. She's living in Scranton with Julia, happy as ever.

Reviewer: New Hogfan Signed

Karen is definitely living up to her name.
She reminds me of someone I know.
It’s no wonder she never got remarried.
Who would want her with that attitude?
Even though Jim spent the day with his family
there still seems to be a sad wall between Pam
and himself.

Reviewer: New Hogfan Signed 1

Jim needs to get his head out of his ass and open his eyes before he has two ex-wives. I still have
little sympathy for Karen. She knew that she
was with Jim only because of Julia. Plus it was Karen that left Jim and started divorce proceedings!
It was go to see Pam finally telling Karen to let it go when it comes to getting married to Jim. Karen will never find happiness if she continues to be cold and distant because no one likes a narcissist.
As for Karen wanting to be a singer, perhaps she can still be a singer by going around
to local places in Scranton (and PA). Even if she’s never famous at least she’ll be doing something
that she’s passionate about.

It was good to see Pam put her foot down.
I hope it continues even if she doesn’t feel the confidence deep down in herself.
Jim says he’s working for his family,
but there’s no point if he’s not going to be
with his family. There are other jobs out there
that he can do. It’s not like he’s performing heart
transplants. It’s only sports. At least Karen is gone.

Author's Response: Exactly! if he's not going to be home ever, what's the point of keeping the job? I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter, and thank you for the review!

Reviewer: New Hogfan Signed 1

It was interesting to see things from Jim’s POV.
Hopefully the bad week he had will help him
make some changes, because Pam has had
it bad for months. At least Jim is aware that he could have two divorces under his belt if he doesn’t start to make different choices.
It must have stung to see that Pam had already
taken off her ring only after one week apart.
However, at least Pam’s not being stubborn,
and is still willing to keep trying to make their marriage going. I’m both nervous and looking forward to seeing their dinner date.
Jim better not cancel in her! 😡

the worst part, especially since he’s talking
to on the phone with one of them when he’s supposed spending time with Pam.
Jim really is becoming a mindless suit. 😡

You definitely hit the nail on the head with writing Roy! The guy was already selfish and sexist in the 2000’s,so it makes sense that a 1800’s version of him would be even more pronounced than in canon.

This story is an example of why Jim was
such an ass in season 3. He really has no right to be upset at Pam since he’s been shoving his relationship with Karen in her face.
I also think this story shows how insecure Karen
(and Ryan) really was, but faked it by trying to
come off as,not just confident, but very arrogant, towards others. Which made her(& again Ryan)
as narcissistic.
So will we seeing another chapter to this story?
I hope so because I enjoyed it. 🙂

Author's Response:

There was a LOT of insecurity in Season 3! There's a few more chapters to go; glad you're enjoying it.

Thanks very much for reading and taking the time to review. Reviews really help!

Reviewer: New Hogfan Signed

That was an intense chapter.
It was only a matter of time before Roy started
to show his true colors again. He’s so out of touch with Pam that he can’t even see that he has no future with her. It’s good to know that Pam is planning to dump him. Ryan is an ass as usual.
I’m guessing that his snarky attitude is because Karen turned him down. I think that’s one thing Ryan & Jim have in common. When they get turned down by a girl they treat that girl like trash, and then the girl that does want them, the two guys use them to soothe their egos.
Karen definitely has a pattern when it comes to dating, which goes to show that Jim is just another link in the chain. I can’t say I’m surprised that she would want to be the center of attention, she is rather pretentious. I loved watching Jim cringe through this chapter. 😂
He really doesn’t have a right to be upset with Pam dating Roy (or anyone), because he has made his own bad choices. Poor Andy.
Kelly will be Kelly. Sometimes I think she is the female Michael. Please update soon!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for reading, and taking the time to leave a (detailed!) review. And, yup - Roy. I really couldn't buy the Roy reboot as a respectful, thoughtful, open-minded charmer and caring partner, so it's not happening here   :0)

Reviewer: New Hogfan Signed 1

Wow I did not see that coming!
As much of an ass as Ryan is, I found myself cheering when he showed the tape so Karen
and Roy could finally see the feelings that JAM
had for each other. As usual I have little sympathy
for Karen because she brought it on herself.
She spent the whole dinner party shoving her relationship with Jim in Pam’s face. Also the fact that Karen has to convince Jim that he belongs with her should have been a giant red flag for Karen.
If Jim(or any guy) really wanted to be with Karen
then it wouldn’t have mattered if Pam cared for Jim
because Jim would only want Karen.
Also, I have to admit, that I enjoyed seeing Karen get
knocked down a couple of pegs by David Wallace.
Her arrogance in thinking she’s so special, and great at her job, that David would automatically knows her,
shows that Karen isn’t only delusional when it comes to her personal relationships. I have to say that I loved how the characters started talking about
they look down on each other because I have felt that way for a while when watching The Office.
Kelly is as daft as ever if she thinks Karen is going to want to walk to her. If Jim tries to get with Pam I hope she makes him work for it because he really
did treat her like crap in season three.
I’m surprised that Roy only threw the table.
Please update soon, I’m looking forward to
seeing the next chapter.

Author's Response: I'm glad I managed to surprise you! Thank you so much for your - very detailed! - review. I really appreciate you reading and taking the time to review, and I 'm very chuffed you like it. Thanks!

Wow, I wish I could have seen Roy kick Ryan’s ass. 😂
Typical Kelly being completely out of touch with everyone. She’s totally blind to Karen not
waiting her to be there. I still have little sympathy
for Karen. She used this dinner party as a way to shove her relationship with Jim in Pam’s face, and it backfired on her. Karen’s apartment is as messy as her relationship with Jim. Both ended in disaster.
It was good to see JAM finally communicate with each other, even in the pouring rain. I think Jim deserved to feel left out when Pam was telling him how the others in the office took care of her when she was injured. I think that given Jim’s attitude towards Pam, she probably knew that she would not have been able to rely on Jim even if he hadn’t moved to Stamford.
I think that the way the others in the office helped Pam showed Michael was right to call them a family.
Looking forward to to the next chapter.

I think you're right (and also Michael!) about them being a family - albeit a kind of dysfunctional one.
